    Porting out intake manifold

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey,
Does anybody know of any resources in regards to porting out the intake manifold?
Any YouTube videos or kits with gaskets sold online?
Or any personal experience doing it? Was it worth it or should you just buy one. Which did you buy?

    Thanks

Not sure what your intent is with this, but I highly doubt you would see any kind of gains by doing this. Not to mention the earlier versions had plastic intake manifolds. If you are looking for more power get a tune.

B8.5 has metal intakes, which is the case with my car.
Porting out the intake manifold serves to allow more air to flow with less impediment. When paired with supporting mods does result in more HP.
I don’t have those mods as of yet, just doing research at the moment

What mods are currently installed, what end state are you looking for and how much do you want to spend?

Currently I have the IE air intake, IE Downpipe, turbo muffler delete, IE stage 2 tune, and some smaller stuff that doesn’t affect performance much if any.
Eventually I want a bigger intercooler, ko4 turbo, full exhaust, and intake manifold.
I’m just trying to figure out if there’s other options than the IE intake manifold, or would I be better off to just port the OEM

Looking at the IE site for the K04 upgrade, they don't show intake manifold as a required component while downpipe and intercooler are. This would suggest that the intake manifold only provides incremental gains relative to the rest of the upgrade. Ask them how much extra you gain and then decide if it's worth the USD$949.99 - will say though their intake manifold does look very nice

Get a flex fuel tune to run E85 and an Intercooler( IE, Wagner, Rev9), you will run out of fueling/turbo/rods/pistons before hitting a level of benefiting from an intake manifold.

Just like the “CAI” it’s more engine noise and jewelry at this level.

I realize that, I just do not think that the amount of work required (or cost) is worth the upgrade. The gain you will see is probably very insignificant.

    I have a B 8.5...plastic intake here too.

Waste of money to port it, these are not 85 Camaros. Upgrade your tune as suggested = more bang for your buck. Just my 2 cents, FWIW.

Flex fuel B8.5’s have the metal intake with a fifth injector for E85 cold starts. The plastic manifold sees duty in the manual non flex cars.

exactly ...... my point was kinda that just because it is 8.5 does not mean it has metal intake . i was trying to be nice about it. ( yes a new approach for me :) )

Thanks for all the input, I was under the impression that all the B8.5 models had gone to the metal intake manifold.

In regards to doing an E85 tune. It’s extremely difficult and expensive to get a hold of E85 in Ontario. Or at least from my research.
I don’t know a single gas station that offers it.

I’ll have to do more research to see if the intake manifold power gains are negligible or not

    Thanks
