    Injector Removal and Replacement

Has anyone replaced injectors on the B9 3.0TFSI / EA839 engine?

I have a persistent misfire on Cylinder 1. It only occurs at moderate or wide open throttle, higher boost situations.

I have new plugs and coils. It runs fine at idle or light throttle. Problem occurs on Stock, Stage 1 - 91 and Stage 2 - 91 and E85 files, seems to get progressively worse with additional power output with respected files.

034 did some logging on it and determined fuel pressure is meeting the requested values and the car seems otherwise healthy.

Doesn't seem to have excessive gas in the oil. Oil looks clean and normal, no indication of coolant. Coolant level is stable and appears normal.

Front O2 sensor was replaced about 2k miles ago.

The fact that it only occurs under heavy throttle leads me to believe the injector is likely clogged. I would like to swap it out with a new injector, however I have never pulled injectors on a direct injection engine. Not afraid to dive into it, just was hopeful someone else had done it previously.

Tips, tricks, info would be very helpful.

    Thanks guys!

Suspecting an injector issue, have you given your car a heavy dose of Techron? Having fault code(s)? Freeze frame data? Misfires can be tough to solve. Only good news is that it is not intermittent.

I ran E85 over approximately 7-8k miles in it. Recently switched back to 91 for the last few tanks while trying to solve this.

    I almost exclusively run Chevron.

Ran a bottle of Lucas injector cleaner through it at about 1/3 tank of fuel, followed by STP injector cleaner the next tank, again when it was at 1/3 tank or so.

    No change.

    Update, seems to be solved.

I just couldn't accept it might be coils or plugs since I had replaced both less than 5k miles ago.

Decided it was easier to check that possibility first before moving forward with replacing the injector.

Pulled the coil on cylinder 1, pulled the plug, everything looked normal.

Pulled the coil on cylinder 3 and the connector on the coil broke and crumbled off when I disconnected the harness from it.

Swapped the coil from cylinder 1 to cylinder 3 then put a stock coil on cylinder 1 and went for a drive. Misfires on cylinder 3 now.

Threw a stock coil on cylinder 3 and it runs like a champ. Beat the hell out of it for good measure, no more misfires.

Dunno about APR Coils, maybe I got a bad set or they're just junk.

No real excuse for one to die and one to break apart after 5k miles. Waiting for a response from them now.

What would be the point of having the APR ones over factory? I feel like I’ve always read the OEMs have plenty of room left with them.
