    Lock doors without key?

I have a 2022 A3. Am I correct in that it appears you cannot lock the car without the key being in proximity? So, if you go inside, set your keys down, then later get around to locking your car, you can't do it.

that's true for all keys as they are a little radio transmitter with limited range. I can lock my car from inside the house... Go outside and walk away from the car and try and lock/unlock and you can see what your range is. I heard a trick that I thought was nonsense until I tested with my Touareg (notoriously short range key) and if you hold any metal bit from your key under your chin (or I assume anywhere on your body) you get more range (adding to the antenna effect I guess?) - I got like 30' more lol.

No, what I'm getting at is you can't lock it without having the key on you. For every other car on the planet (at least my personal planet) you can open the driver's door, press the lock button, and all the doors lock, and then you close the door. For my Audi, you cannot do this.

Well, if you had my slow phone then "easily" is a misnomer. Plus, it's the same problem as the key. You have to have your phone on you. You can't simply press the lock button like on every other car.

Ah, right... that's true. Why would you want somebody to lock your car with no key ;) I think yours is an "Edge case" very few people walk away from their car with no key - its really a security feature. What if a kids in the car and they lock it? bad right? It also prevents you from locking your keys in the car too. Good and bad in every design decision, but in this case, I think they are good tradeoffs.

In every car I've ever owned, you get out of the car, hit the lock button, and close the door. That way you don't have to fish the key out of your pocket or purse or briefcase, or wherever it is, especially if you have your hands full. Isn't that the normal way todo it? And, at least for the last couple of cars I've had, they will beep (or something) if the door is locked with the key still inside. Audi can't figure that out??

It sounds like you have the new A3 without Audi advanced key, which would allow you to unlock/lock the vehicle from the touch of the door handle. Unfortunately Audis will not let you lock the car from the drivers side door open.

I have the advanced key and yes, I can lock it by touching the handle. But again, you have to have the key with you to do that. And even then, it takes a couple of seconds to register (which, I know, sounds like no big deal, but is a lot more cumbersome then just pressing the lock button on your way out the door). Ok, I guess this is just a "feature" of Audi. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. Thanks.

Proximity...I don't understand what the issue is? If you're not in range, it simply won't actuate.
