Audi SOS recall and software update. Service Action 90T2

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I had not had issues previously, but received the letter on the SOS recall and software update. Then after receiving the letter, all the issues started. No Bluetooth, SOS warning, calls on Carplay could not here me. Also, can no longer connect to the car with myaudi connect, etc.

Dealerships are booked ~ two weeks out. The worst part, aside from loosing all the services, is the annoying SOS alarm goes off regularly while driving. I tried removing the Emergency call fuse, but that creates an airbag alarm.....

Crazy to think it takes two weeks to go in to get a 1 hour software update....

The two weeks is their lead time to get the 4G connect box but it's actually more than that. You can go in just for the software patch to stop the SOS error that pops up on the dash. That's odd that your Bluetooth and csrplay stopped working. Both work fine for me.

They may have removed your paired phone when setting up the 4G module. Check your MMI to make sure your phone is paired and set as the primary device.

    Thanks,

I'm fairly sure this is not the 4G connect box, which I believe was required in some earlier vehicles (2018-2019). For 2020, they had 4.5G. I believe this is just a software patch, at least according to the recall notice.

Emergency Call Module Control Unit & Communication Unit Software REPAIR NEEDED

    START DATE
    Feb 22, 2022

    AUDI ACTION CODE
    90T2

    DESCRIPTION
Due to a software configuration issue on Audi vehicles manufactured within a specific period, it may, in rare cases, not be possible to receive cell broadcast messages. A permanent failure of the emergency call module control unit and communication unit cannot be ruled out as a result. If this happens, the affected vehicles will not be able to establish an online connection.

    REMEDY
Update the emergency call module control unit & communication unit software.

So I guess if the software update does not work, they'll replace the SOS module.

I had the 90T2 ('20 A5) done last week, quick, no issues (nothing obvious before, either).

No worries, everything helps. Good to see someone had the update with no issues.

Bluetooth and 3G are unrelated. Make sure your phone is still paired with your car.

Was told just the opposite from Audi, and this is not the 3g issue.

BT is affected with the software update....though the entire SOS module might still need to be replaced. Additionally, the MMI is affected two....amess really.

But my system is not 3G either, 4.5g in the 2020 models, or at least my car.

    What is 4.5G?

Sorry, the SOS module, which needs the software update or be replaced. it basically takes out the BT, calls over Carplay (I can hear others, they can't hear me), some GPS functions, and connectivity to MyAudi.

So, quick update. They tried to update the software. They first removed the module, then removed the back up battery within the module, waited, and reconnected everything. They then tried to update the software, but the module would not respond, so a new one has been ordered.

I will say the dealership also have a nice text message with a link to the car's progress during service...was very nice. Hoping the part come in soon, as the alarm is a very annoying.

That part was backordered 6 weeks when they did my service. I didn't want it, just wanted them to patch the software to kill the SOS malfunction and get out of the way.

2020 S5 Coupe - SOS (telecommunications) module failed without warning - unable to add Bluetooth devices, AirPlay calls couldn't hear me (microphone was muted), warnings about loss of network connection.

The dealer said there is a recall - they ordered the replacement module, but there is no ETA on the part.

He also said that the SOS module failing could be triggering other failures we're seeing including adaptive cruise control and traffic speed reading.

For now, the car is drivable - I just hope it remains so until the updated module arrives.

Audi is no longer fixing this issue, I just received a postcard from Audi of america stating "Audi has decided to discontinue the update that was offered under service action 90T2 (Emergency call module control unit & communication Unit software). As the result this service action is no longer available from your authorized Audi dealer"...

so does it mean if my module breaks down again which means no more carplay or mic or bluetooth, they are not going to fix it? smh

I have an A4 from 2020 and have lost sos and bluetooth in the car. The dealer cannot fix this despite multiple attempts (under warranty). Tells me the part is not available with no ETA. Anyone else in this situation? Frustrated and feel helpless, driving an unsafe car and Audi doesn't seem to care.

Wow, that would really be bad. When mine went out, just the alarm was driving me nuts. Is this due to the chip shortage or something else?

This happened to my 2020 (B9.5) S5. Along with the connection failure I had microphone failure, nav issues and the predictive braking doesn't work. This all ties into the SOS module apparently. I have been waiting 160 days so far with no ETA in sight. The dealer has told me that Audi stopped shipping them because they were having issues with the new ones even so he figures there is no eta because they are probably trying to create a revision part before sending stuff out.

Still no fix or ETA and Audi will do nothing to compensate for this problem. I understand that shit happens but the fact that AUDI USA is offering absolutely nothing in compensation for this is laughable for a "luxury" brand.

Yeah, I completely agree. I've been waiting on this for my A4 since last August. Called the dealer this morning and still no ETA.

San Jose Audi service is booking service 1.5 months out. They wanted me to leave the car for a week, just to confirm the 2019 model Telematics failure mode to order the module under warranty, which could take months to get.

The seperate San Jose Audi service department parking lot is huge and completely packed with double parked cars in for service.

My wife found this workaround that someone figured out. I've tried in on my 2020 A4, and it worked for at least not having to have the car constantly shriek at me that the SOS system is not working. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lbwJmdrCaZk
