Thermostat replacement possible without pulling water pump?

    Hi guys,

    2.0T

After being sent 2 wrong thermostats, I caved to move my project forward and put my old thermostat back in. Low and behold, it is now acting up and I need to change it AGAIN.

Has anyone ever changed the tstat without pulling the water pump out? Or is it not possible?

Also, can anyone say what the visual differences are between the INZI and BEHR water pump housings? I can't find any information online about it and it's driving me nuts.

I bought a BEHR housing thermostat which I tried installing, and the top cap/housing wouldn't fit on with it inside. Like the edges of the thermostat were straight instead of being tapered. Looking at other BEHR thermostats online, they all look the same. I don't know what's going on.

I haven't done it, but scroll down a bit in this thread for some info. It is doable, but is tight.
