Question Full Dynamic Sequential Tail Lights for B8.5 A4/S4 Interest Check

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!

Guys we’re working on making this mod available for all B8.5 A4/S4 owners.
We will have regular tails that are sequential plus also a start-up sequence/animation module add-on (extra cost).

For U.S. based people - the sequential kit will include 4 brand new tails (European spec), adaptation harness and coding. It will retail for around ~$1000+shipping (price not final).
For EU customers we will offer DIY's kits (boards only).

I need to know how many are truly interested so we can order enough parts for everyone. By interested I mean with money in hand and willing to spend it, not just curious. Parts are expensive, they come from overseas and the boards are custom built by a pcb company. This project will be ready in about ~3 months from today's date.

I understand the price is high and some may consider this mod “insignificant” but a lot of work goes into this. We will be the first U.S. based company to offer this kit so best believe you most likely will be a 1/1 car rocking this mod.

Feel free to discuss and post any questions in this post. I’ll do my best to answer all of you. Thanks!

Honestly i would love this, but for me personally the price is too steep. If it was somehow possible to just sell the parts that could swap into existing tail modules or came with headlights too, it might be easier for me to buy. just my .02

Agreed. $1k is just not justifiable but if we can get it lower by somehow using the existing facelift modules, I’m all in.

I’m in, so long as the final price isn’t worse than this. And I think it would have to be more like $1000 out the door, worst case.

FYI to everyone else, this is not possible using a plug-in module. The LEDs in the stock taillights are not wired to be individually addressable. You need to redo all the LEDs and add a custom controller with programming to achieve this. Plus separating the lights to add this all in there is not easy and cannot be done safely without expensive equipment (ultrasonic knife). This is not an easy kit to make, hence why no one has up til now.

Obviously a lower target price would be preferable and I would think achievable for these, but I know how crazy pricing on everything is nowadays.

    Too expensive for this mod.
and with the large gap between the 2 housings it is very evident that these lights were not designed to have this animation. It just doesn't look right.
And the startup sequence is very tacky..

Not possible to retrofit "just parts" in North American tail lights, only European customers that already own the euro-spec headlights can do it. It would cost way more than this in parts to retrofit American tails to be sequential, not to mention the extra hours of labor.

The plug and play adapters that other cars have (for Audi's) its usually semi-dynamic. Not full dynamic. Can't achieve this with just an adapter, the entire board is replaced and custom built. Audi OEM boards can't be programmed to do this.

    Thanks for explaining.

Here's an interesting thread where someone's documenting this exact process and price cost references: https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...il-light-diary

Unfortunately that's the lowest price range we can do. We leave a margin to run "promotions" or "free shipping offers" but it won't be much. $50-100 tops.

To give you an idea of the "market value" for the items in this build:

Set of new euro tails market cost: $800 (eBay / other sites)
Custom sequential boards: $250 (same price parkes dynamic in the UK used to charge)
Adapter Harness + Coding (from EU to NA): $400 (Europrice cost)
Cost of parts shipping TO us, and FROM us: Shipping is $50 domestically to the U.S.
Labor: 4-6h per set: $400-600 at $100/hr which is what professional shops charge for custom work.
    Total TRUE value: ~$2000+

The reason why we're making an "interest check" post is because the cost of our boards go down if we order more units. But without enough interest this will be mostly built-to-order and therefore expensive.
Thanks for chiming in though, your feedback counts.

PS. You also have to account for your "net cost" to upgrade. Re-selling your OEM tails you can easily recoup $400-500.

I believe you're already the owner of our tail lights (FK) 👀
The animation is still a prototype and currently under testing, definitely a 3-4 month project... but yes we should be able to do it for A5/S5/RS5 as well.
Right now we're focusing on just sequential tails, since animations would add an additional cost and the feedback so far is mostly negative about pricing.

I guess we will stick to a built-to-order basis with a low amount of parts on hand. Mod will remain more exclusive and still available to those that would like to have it.
