    C7 S6 European Headlight Compatibility

    Hello all,

Just picked up a 2013 S6. This one seems to have a bad headlight, the turn signal on one headlight only lights up half way (the outer portion, from about halfway across to the outer edge does not light up). Checked coding and it does not appear to be a coding issue. The car has been crashed before and this headlight is a junkyard headlight.

I was going to look for another junkyard light, but I see these EU spec headlights, but I can not figure out what is compatible with the pre-facelift S6.

    I see this headlight:

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/162777839506

But it says it is compatible with 2010-2018 EU A6? And I can't figure out if A6 was just never facelift, or if the A6 is just different.

Also... Assuming it is physically compatible, can I take the LED module off of my existing headlight and install it on this EU housing? I assume the housing does not come with the module.

FYI, my headlights are LED, not xenon. So I already have the LED wiring harness.

To my knowledge, the A6 had a facelift just like the S6. For the US, Audi part #4G0941774E is listed as compatible with 2013-2015 S6. I assume the modules may be reused if not damaged, but someone else will have to chime in to be sure.

Thanks for the response. It looks like the A6 was facelifted a year before the S6, in the 2015 model year, I am just not sure if the EU cars followed the same pattern. What is really confusing me is why this seller is listing that headlight for all the way from 2010-2018 model year, maybe this is an error. I do have modules/fans/etc on my existing LED headlights.

A6 was facelifted same model year as S6, which was 2016 in North America. I believe it was model year 2015 in Europe and unsure of when that occurred elsewhere.

Has it been confirmed that pre-facelift headlights between EU and USA A6 or S6 are compatible? I found some threads with people installing EU headlights in their USA cars but they were all post-facelift model years.

Yep, sounds right. From German wikipedia: Im Oktober 2014 wurde die A6-Reihe einem Facelift unterzogen.

I see differences in the lower section of the lights meaning I doubt the lights are interchangeable with the bumpers. As others have said ROW 2015 is facelift but in North America 2016 is facelift. Prefacelift LEDs are not the same as facelift LED lights for connectors and other components in the system, there are harnesses to make non LED prefacelift cars able to plug in same gen LED lights but that is not something on the retrofit market for facelift cars.

Yeah I noticed what appears to be lower differences, almost as if the EU A6 had post-facelift(USA) style headlights from the beginning, but I haven't found anything to confirm this. I currently have LED lights and the other question would be whether or not the USA LED modules can be used on the EU LED light. Since this car is within the time period of early VAG MQB efforts I was suspecting(hoping) that they use the same modules in both markets.

Going to keep poking around on this, if I am replacing an LED light I'd prefer to change out to something like the EU lights. Then again, if I pull apart the module and light and realize it is repairable then maybe I won't take this any further. I already have to disassemble the drivers side light to repair both adjusters which are inop for some reason.

Euro lights of same kind work in US cars. Madyspop has Euro LEDs on his prefacelift S6, you get to delete the amber with the change.

Matrix lights on facelift is different case since US C7s never had this option.

Do you know if it works with no bumper mod? Because the (supposed) pre-facelift LED lights I am looking at appear to have the downward bend (where the headlight goes from being skinny on the inboard side to fat on the outboard side) at a different spot than my lights. It looks like the "skinny" section on the EU lights is longer. I am wondering if the lights I am looking at are incorrectly listed and are actually post-facelift, I need to look at more parts diagrams. Or maybe it's just the angle that the photo was taken at.

For what its worth, AZ sponsor Europaparts website lists both a US version and a Euro version. The Audi part numbers have different last letters. The US version is "OEM: 4G0941774K MPN: 012976161" while the Euro version is "OEM: 4G0941774H MPN: 012976121". Both are supposed to be compatible for my 2014 S6 but they also note the part is "VIN specific". Maybe contact them with your questions?

Thanks - I will check with them. The part I listed to is the -H suffix but it sure looks like a facelift headlight. However... There is always the possibility that the ebay seller has wrong fitment and/or wrong picture listed...

There is no mistaking the pre-facelift and facelift LED lights. The lights you linked to in the thread are facelift LED lights, there are also Chinese knockoff headlights that look like facelift lights floating out there.

You're looking for these with or without amber. Every time someone has asked about making OEM facelift LEDs work on a prefacelift is met with a mountain of challenges for things like High Beam Assist and other modules to work, above and beyond the bumper fitting correctly.
