SQ5 pinch weld jack pad adapters

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Is there a best product out there to use between the floor jack and pinch weld lift points for Q5s? Pinch welds on my SQ5 seem pretty thick and somewhat glopped with body seam material and paint. I have an adapter but it’s metal and it slightly chewed the pinch weld. I have some hockey puck style jack pads with the slot, but the slot is too narrow and I don’t really want to modify them. Is there something everyone uses on Q5s that really fits well?

Just the other day I jacked up my SQ5 for the first time to rotate the tires. I used the rubber pinch weld pad I used for another vehicle for years. I think the pinch weld seams on the SQ5 are deeper and the vehicle is much heavier than the other vehicle I used them on because it basically sliced through the rubber pads. I ordered a set of these to try for next time.

Yeah I was thinking something like that. Of course if that slot on those metal jack pads is too narrow, they won’t work - they’ll scratch up the pinch weld and maybe even wedge onto it.
Does anyone just jack right against the pinch weld? I’ve always thought that was a no no.

I've been using these for years. Great inexpensive option.

I just use ice hockey pucks. Cut the bulk of the slot with a saw and finish off with a rotary tool for a perfect fit.

This has proved to be essential for my TTRS but I haven’t had to jack my SQ5 up yet, so I haven’t confirmed whether or not it fits, but I imagine it does.

Thanks - that’s definitely a good idea and have seen it discussed. Just really didn’t want to buy hockey pucks, and then jig them up to be cut with a circular saw. (I have visions of a hockey puck getting caught in the saw or flung across the garage by a wild saw)

Yeah, I could see that happening. I just use a hacksaw.

These are amazing. I use them for my SQ5 and VW Tiguan. The magnet holds it on the frame for easier alignment of jack.

I also tried the hockey puck and hockey puck with slots....these aluminum ones are easier to use bc of the magnet.

FWIW, I just measured my 2021 SQ5 pinch weld (just at the drivers corner.) It’s a bit irregular, but at most it’s .385 inches thick and 1.25 inches tall. The Amazon metal pads have slot openings that are .385 inches wide and the slot depth is .63 inches. So they’ll fit perfectly in terms of slot width, and as for height, they are shorter than the pinch weld but should hold up fine as the weight will be borne by the bottom of the weld and the pad slot even at .63 inches, will resist the weld deforming. I’ll give them a try!

SQ5 pinch weld jack pad adapters

Yeah, the channel is deep enough that it gets a nice hold but not enough that the lips will bottom out which I don’t think you’d want anyways. It has a nylon insert that pads it so it doesn’t shred your pinch welds and the magnets are a nice bonus. Funny story; I recently changed out my front brakes on my TTRS and I guess I forgot to take the adapter off which I then spotted 2 weeks later while I was dropping my car off at the dealership to get some warranty work done. They’re definitely secure lol. Considering yours is right on the money with the slot opening vs pinch weld width, keep in mind there’s other sizes on Amazon in case this one is a hair too small.

I've been using this Slotted Puck for the past 4 years with my SQ5. I rotate tires twice a year and it has held up well.

I just ordered and received 2 of these, and wanted to report that the slot is not wide enough to work on the front of my. 2018 SQ5. The pinch weld in the rear is not as thick as the front, so they will work on the rear. I’m going to send them back and look for something else.

Slot opening is 15mm. I took my calipers and measured the pinch welds on the front, and they are 13mm. Also, I see that these are glass reinforced. I have other jack adapters I've used on my other German cars, and they worked OK, but the weight of the SQ5 really distorts them.
BarneyM, if these don't work, I'll try the ones you show. Thanks

Got these delivered today, and they look fantastic. Fit the front pinch welds perfectly, magnets hold, and they are made of super dense material that will not deflect under the weight. Great option if you don’t have some already.
