    Aftermarket Stereos for B6 A4

So I have been looking at getting an aftermarket stereo unit for my 2004 A4 Avant I have the Symphony sound system with the 6CD changer with cassette.

My needs for the system are wireless CarPlay and a capacitive touchscreen.

    I saw this…

    https://www.ecstuning.com/b-bremmen-parts/7-android-dvd-multimedia-system/022619brp05/

At ecstuning but it almost seems too good to be true for the price. Right now wireless CarPlay systems are going for much higher.
Does anyone have any experience with this unit?

Also any recommendations for other stereos with the features I listed for under $600 USD would be great.

I haven’t use the one you have in the link but it does look pretty sweet very similar to an rnse style wise.

Yea it looks great, love the design, but I don’t want it to fail in three months.

It probably has a warranty but here’s another option.

Yea I’ve seen this one looking through crutchfield only issues are that I’m paying for the boss system and then an enfig adapter because the wires don’t line up. I think I might just take a chance on the bremmen parts unit.

I would probably go with an Xtrons unit instead of the ECS unit. Here's a large thread on the B7 forum that you should at least skim through before ordering something.

I suggest that you get a unit like this (Ebay): Android 7" Car Stereo DVD GPS Navigation Radio Headunit for AUDI A4 B6 B7 S4 RS4. This looks like a modernized version of Hizpo unit that I bought 4 years ago (pictured) which still works fine, but now with a lot more features. Mine's got GPS nav, but this new one can also mirror-link from your phone, too. For me, the factory-look was important; I didn't want it to look like a rigged-up generic tablet. Works with the Audi steering wheel controls, and comes with the camera too, which I had to order separately in 2018. $233.

I installed a pioneer 7” touchscreen in my b6 A4 using the kit from Enfig Audio and it looks pretty much stock. Even the bezel for the head unit is finished in the Audi matte finish. All the connectors I got from them were plug and play, and the only wire I had to cut was to install the brake bypass. As long as you buy a head unit that has wireless CarPlay that should give you everything you’re looking for. I can post a picture of my install when I get back in town, but it pretty much looks like this:

Thanks for the tip these look good, I’m not good with wiring have you installed one? I’m trying to make it completely plug and play no matter how many adapters I need to buy. I’ve also read that you have to shave down the casing on it to fit without interfering with the slots above the stereo.

Yea that’s my issue, everything at crutchfield at the moment that is under $1000 doesn’t have wireless CarPlay. I was actually looking at that Sony unit in the picture with an enfig kit but I don’t want to run a usb cable in to the car. I don’t get the point of wired CarPlay.

I was looking at doing the same thing. I was going to order through crutchfield. One thing that I noticed is they display a warning message that says take great care in installing the double din head unit because once it’s installed it can only be removed by removing the entire dash from the car.

Is this true? Why would that be?

Ski, that's definitely not true. Once the mounting frame for the double din radio is installed, the radio itself can just be removed from the frame like any other radio. The only thing I have to do to get to mine is remove the bezel that came with the kit, and that just snaps on and off.

The Android model I put in had snaps that once engaged could not be undone. Yea I too the dash apart and found that the clips were hidden. I ended up having to force the unit out mangling the clips.

I couldn't tell if you have any interest in the system that I linked to, or whether your mind is made up, but here is another description that you can find on Ebay: "For Audi A4 S4 RS4 B6 B7 Android 10.0 7"Head Unit Car Stereo GPS Navigation Wifi". This one is $200, the system does have wireless Apple Carplay and capacitive touchscreen, supports Torque app, and lots more. The only downside for me were the rudimentary instructions (in 2018), which were probably intended for an experienced car-audio installer. The kit included a connector with wiring labeled "A4" which didn't fit my '05 3.0's connector, and another labeled "A3" that did. Once sorted out it worked fine, and doesn't look like a universal aftermarket setup, which was important to me.

Depending how much risk you're willing to take, i bought a chinese android unit off aliexpress. 9" screen, 6gb ram / 128 storage. doesn't do satellite, does do 4G LTE on my carrier, and has been fabulous. I got another line on my account, plugged a sim into the slot and have pandora, maps, youtube, all the normal stuff without tethering a phone. I have a little over 300USD in it. It was plug and play.

I bought a 2gb ram 32gb rom Medeke radio off aliexpress on black friday for $200 shipped, it was plug and play, there were a couple kinks to work out like setting up the backlight to display the correct color, rear speakers not working and buying a radio antenna adapter but for the price I paid it works/sounds awesome, turn my phone into a hotspot and I've got maps, I downloaded all the offline maps as well with out turn by turn navigation.

Since 2018 been using an Alpine ILX-207 in the B7. Picked up the Enfig surround, harness kit and upgraded mic, easy plug-n play solution. Added a MicroBypass Parking Brake Override to make the unit fully functional at speed. I only use Bluetooth streaming but the Android Auto / Apple Carplay works great (both are wired IIRC). Sound quality is going to be much better than a lot of the Android units and less chance of failure / issues. Looks like there's an iLX-407 out now too, may be worth looking into. Both would meet your budget needs as well, minus the add-ons of course.

Also worth noting is the quality of Enfig's components + Christian's knowledge and customer service. His harnesses will allow you to retain the factory sub, if that's what you're looking for.

Any efficient component speakers will be fine with the OEM amp, although it would be best to run em off the Alpine for much cleaner sound.

Yea I had to buy a line out converter and do a little rewire and the amp turn on lead was dead, I just tired it to the switched IGN wire, bought a powered radio antenna adapter and it's been awesome.

Sweet! I have been pondering doing this myself. Do you intend on using steering wheel controls to control the iPad? Also have you considered how to use more than just the right and left channel output from the iPad? I was thinking about how to use the 5.1 setup. Is it possible to use an hdmi output to get surround sound?
