    Talking Contemplating an RS6 Order

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Good morning.

I'm contemplating an RS6 order and have questions for current owners.

    1) My ideal timing to buy the car is next year, as I have a bunch of home renovations happening this year. But I'm worried the RS6 may no longer be offered next year. Does anyone have insights into whether I could delay a year and still get the car? I had a 2018 RS3 before and now see they're discontinued in Canada. E63s is also dead in Canada and used values have gone to crazy town.

    2) How to people find the rs6 as a family car? I'm have a different car for backroad driving/track/date nights (Miata ND2), but RS6 would be the full family (+son + dog) year round road trip car/second date night car. We also have an old Ford Flex that we would use for hauling dirt/furniture/etc (which, as an aside, is actually a surprisingly awesome beater vehicle). I think with the RS6 I'd basically have the optimal car setup for the foreseeable future between the three. Eventually I'd like to change the toy car to a Gallardo/Emira/718 Spyder, but that's like 5 years out - the Miata punches WAY above its price tag for fun factor.

    3) For RS6 colour, I was thinking Ara blue, as I loved it on the RS3 and my toddler loves blue. I think that like the RS3, the blue would really pop the RS6's lines. Does anyone have experience with Audi exclusive colours in Ontario (Canada) and is there anything I should know about ordering custom colours there? Also, I go back and forth on whether Ara would be fantastic or whether it might be too flashy for the model and Sepang might be better. Not sure if Nogaro is available in light of the limited edition cars. Also like Black Crystal Effect as a standard colour but my miata is black and having two fun cars in black is a bit lame. What are people's views on the colour?

Both Sepang and Nogaro are much better options than Ara, no question. Nogaro is available through AE in Canada while is not available in the US due to the Tribute Edition the US got.

    Sepang = yum
    Nogaro = yum
    Ara = gross

Congrats on your upcoming purchase! There are a lot of AE cars in Ontario, but be prepared to wait a long time to get one.

I have a Daytona gray on aluminum optics RS6, which is undeniably an old man specification . Ultra blue was not available in ‘21, otherwise I would have definitely gone that way. As Martin said above, Nogaro and Sepang are also great choices. Ara, not so much 🤣.

Some pics of Ontario AE cars below (and an ultra blue from the US), including Ara which again is a bottom of the barrel choice . These pics were from an RS6 meet from last fall (hosted by Audi Hamilton)

We also replaced our RS3 with an RS6. Both cars are Daytona Grey on the silver trim with red calipers, some might see this as an “old man trim” , we find it to be nicely sporty and elegant. Colour choice remains a very personal one, but I struggle to pay crazy extras just for colour.

BTW, the reason the RS3 got cancelled in Canada is because the new model failed one particular TC crash test and Audi deemed it to expensive/complicated to redesign in time for the small Canadian market. It’s a shame, because it was a real hoot to drive and was a relative bargain in Canada. That being said, the C8 RS6 will likely continue to be offered for the 2023MY.

However, if you want one, put an order in now, the waiting list is quite long, with used ones selling above MSRP. The RS6 is a completely different ride than the RS3. While a fun runabout, the RS3 felt a bit flimsy and not a solidly built, being based on a Golf platform. The RS6 is much bigger, heavier, substantial, more practical and way more luxurious. The kids really enjoy having their climate setting with heated seats in the rear. But it is less nimble and agile than the RS3, but it makes up for it in comfort and practicality. Overall, we are really liking ours as a family cruiser, I am sure you will to.

This. Even if you get on a list today you won't see it until at least late fall. Mine might be a MY23 by then. I put a deposit down Feb 1 and I hope to get a spring allocation for fall delivery and this dealer probably has more RS6 allocation than any dealer in Canada. PM me if you want the contact

My 0.02¢ on ideal spec from Buffalo and someone without an RS6 would be Lava Gray over Cognac if standard interior, but preferably a darker brown like Chestnut or Saddle.

    Thanks everyone. Very helpful!

I called my local dealership and they're looking into whether they can get an allocation and the practical delivery time on custom colour orders. Apparently they also have a Daytona Grey coming in on trade soon (Daytona is also high on my colour list).

It turn out my local place also have a loaner vehicle that is ultra blue metallic. So I plan to come in and look at the Daytona, as it is one of my top choices for colour (classiest spec, imo) and CPO may be a good value. While I'm there I'll see the ultra blue, put it next to nogaro and some green options and decide whether it's worth the extra cost to go custom.

4nRoots, thanks very much for the pics. They help. The electric blue looks fantastic in the picure, though I'd do alu optics. I'm actually a much bigger fan of the frozen teal bluish colour than the others. I looked into your post history and the exhaust work you described sounds like good bang for buck. Are you still liking it?

I love my spec, Daytona is a classy RS colour. Not many aluminum optics cars out there. Since I last posted here, I’ve actually gone down the rabbit hole with exhaust mods. I tuned my car (Eurocharged), added high flow downpipes (from Redstar), and an Akrapovic exhaust (courtesy of nemesis). The akra is definitely expensive, but is totally worth it. I can’t attach videos here, but feel free to PM me with your number and I can send you a sound clip of my latest setup.

The frozen teal blue car is Kemora gray with satin PPF.

Thanks for the info about RS3 vs RS6, and for the thoughts on it as a family car. I had the same impression of the RS3, as well. AMAZING engine in a pretty nice, but not amazing, car. It was ideal when driving in winter by myself or with just my wife, but not big enough for family road trips with just one toddler in a rear-facing seat.

Your car is stunning. We have a similar exterior spec. I love the wheels too. Based on the look, I assume it is lowered? CETE? If so, would you share impressions so far! We are considering it for our car.

    Thanks! Appreciate it!

Yes, I’m on CETE. It’s an amazing mod. I love being able to set different suspension heights for each drive mode. If you plan to drive it in the winter, being able to raise the car to stock height is a bonus.

Lol. Don't worry - I live far away and will keep the car for 10 years so I won't dilute the used market when it's time for you to sell it.

Ara is back in the mix as it was literally the best blue I've ever seen. Ara also has special significance for me as we drove our son home from the hospital in the RS3. Also, he has a matching ride-on r8 spyder and I think it would be funny to throw it in the trunk and take with us on road trips.

It’s a great colour. In honesty don’t have an issue with another being around in Ontario. Just joking around. My plans are to keep long term as well.

Ara gives the right pop and the RS6 lines carry it well. Want a bright blue to match with the black trim. Sepang was a bit too dark but if Ultra was a standard option, I may have selected it. Don’t regret my choice however.

I took my RS6 down the shore this weekend to work on my shore house laundry room.

Loaded it up 36"x60" cement board, boxes of tile, shelves, trim, baseboards, nail guns and compressor, miter saw, circular saw, sawsall, Bosch Oscillating Multi-Tool Kit, 60" dryer metal duct plus elbows etc, and more!

I think the contractors down there were jealous. So yeah, its practical. Never would have fit all that in my S4!

I’m not that far from you guys (Long Island).

We should meet up some weekend. I spent 6 years in Cherry Hill while training and spent nearly a year in Brick NJ.

Will do. There's so much variance in the pictures I see online it's hard to tell what it's really like.

It seems that if I buy the RS6 I will, like moth to flame, be drawn to the coast of NJ.

i thought canadians all went to maine? oh, that's just the speedo wearing guys from quebec...

ultra blue is great. you've somehow pulled in both North American Aras into this chat, seemingly to defend their turf. seen Ara in person and it's pretty stunning. good luck, you can't go wrong!

No jealousy here. Lived in NJ for a couple of years and spent many weekends at the shore. Love me some pork roll.

    Update: Your Aras are safe.

Thought long and hard about custom colours - narrowed it down to Ara or Deep Green, but ultimately placed the order for daytona grey, black interior red stitch, alu optics, 21" (old man comfort) wheels, red caliper, dynamic drive. Though I'm picky with audio the standard system was good enough for me so i nix'd the 5.5k B&O.

I'm leaning towards wrapping with 3m stealth instead of a clear PPF. Apparently I can still go back to AE if they get the allocation.

Still deciding on carbon ceramics and extended warranty. Seems ceramics are the strongly preferred option on this forum; my local dealership said ceramic replacements are $22k CDN for fronts and $22k CDN for rears , but that they should never need to be done. I'd certainly hope not....or I'd move to steel then.

I know I am in the minority on this topic but my Daytona Gray was ordered with 21’s and non ceramic brakes. Everyone keeps saying that the brake dust is crazy but the reality is that the aero on the car make the back hatch a dust and dirt magnet! I don’t wash my car every week bc of the brake dust, it is the dust all over the back of the car.
And yes, I have full PPF and ceramic on the car and ceramic X 2 on the rims.
I use P&S Brake dust buster or Sonax and the rims are clean, meanwhile I end up washing the whole car bc of the back hatch.
I also have the full silver OEM 22’s for the summer, which I think will be even easier to clean.
I went with Cognac interior and clear PPF bc my detailer said I would be upset with the look of the door jams not being full stealth. I think he was correct.
Best of luck with your order.

Congrats, you spec is very similar to ours, except we went for the 22" titanium wheel. The ride is super plush even on the 22", so if that is you concern, it shouldn't.

As far as CCB, they are one of the big dichotomies of the automotive world: overkill for the street and too onerous for track use, so we specced the irons. That being said, the CCB do lower the unsprung weight by a significant margin, which help both ride comfort and handling.

No, and I have a feeling that's a good thing, as I would likely know the difference and be tempted to upgrade. It was more that I was able to test drive one with standard audio, and I was asking myself if I would really miss the dynamics/imaging of the upgraded system enough to pay that much for an upgrade (when usually my toddler will be asleep in the back and my wife will be talking over the music). That being said, I'm hoping to attend a meetup of Ontario RS6 owners and if the system is crazy different I may still go back to the upgraded system.

Thanks; this is helpful. I had a similar thought that I'd likely be washing frequently anyways. I priced out changing the steel pads and rotors, and at Audi brakes and rotors for the front end was something like 7-8k; same for rears. On my RS3 the fronts (pads and rotors) "needed" to be done at 25,000km. Assuming I truly need to do it 3 times (50,000, 100,000, and 150km) before I'd need to do ceramics I thought it would be cheaper (or equivalent) to just get the 9,500 ceramic option.

The 21" decision was 1/4 to make the ride as plush as possible and 3/4 to avoid blown tires from crap Toronto roads. The OEM p-zeros on my 19" RS3 wheels had serious issues - I blew 4 tires (sidewall bubbles) in 60,000 km before I just bit the bullet and swapped everything over to MPS4s. Replaced the first one through Audi (which somehow cost $1200) and the rest through my tire guy. I should've just done what some others did and swap out P-zeros at day 1.

Also, I hadn't thought about the door jams. That may be a good point.

Thanks - that's helpful, too. I test drove a car with 22" winters and it did drive great. I'd be interested in your thoughts on my brake replacement math (above, responding to Hiro) since you're in Canada and presumably looking at similar service pricing through dealerships.

I am sorry, but there is no way iron rotors need to be replaced after 25,000km of street driving. I am an avid track enthusiast, and 20~25k km is what I get out of my front rotors with 40+ track days on either my previous M3/4 and current 911 (rear rotors last even longer). Don’t let dealers/shops fool you, you can go through multiple sets of pads without having to replace rotors. As long as the rotors meet the minimum thickness and that there aren’t any cracks interconnecting two cross drill holes, they are good to go. Similarly, even if CCB rotors are likely to outlive the car itself with street driving, the pads however, do wear, and are quite costlier than the the iron rotor pads, so you need to factor that in the equation. Further, CCB are quite fragile and are easily chipped; that can become a costly repair. There are good reasons to get CCB, such as the lowered unsprung mass, lower brake dust, the feel and confidence they inspire. But cost savings is definitely not one of them.
