I’m looking to make my car alot louder to really hear the v8 and have a crackling pop sound. I have a stock exhaust right now only thing I did to the car was put in a EI stage 1 tune and tcu tune. I was looking at mil tech non resonated exhaust and down pipe but that would run me almost 8 gs so I’m doing that. I was thinking of doing a x pipe with muffler delete. What are your guys opinions or recommendations?

Do you have the sport package? These cabins are insulated very well, I'm getting old and find the sport exhaust with downpipes a happy medium between loud and obnoxious/compromising.

Probably the best exhaust for the money would be AWE touring or AWE track with either mirror black or chrome tips. Sounds great, and used to be about $2k new. Not sure what the current going rate is. THE BEST aftermarket exhaust 9IMO) is the Akropovic, which sounds amazing, but is typically over $7k new. The crackling sound that some folks like is typically generated by the tune itself, so you'd need to talk to EI about that or consider a different tune if You're not happy with it.

it’s not the sport package it’s the prestige trim with Bose sound and cold weather package. That’s what I wanted to do just put in a down pipe but the mechanic I went to is saying I can’t just put a down pipe I would need to put an exhaust also because just the down pipe won’t work I guess with the stock exhaust

Very incorrect. Downpipes that are OEM config would bolt right up, others would mostly try to work with the stock config unless they are specific to an exhaust.

I am personally like widebodyfx; I like a more OEM sound - likely due to age as well - and went with an RS7 sport exhaust (no DPs). Subtle, but deeper inside and outside of the car, due to how the RS7 exhaust exits more under the rear valance.

X or H pipe is all about sound preference - zero performance gains (you didn't say you cared, just stating). X-pipe will be a lower pitch and more raspy. H will be a deeper sound. Many have gone the center muffler delete and enjoy it.

Not sure how a Milltek exhaust and DPs will run $8k, but you should be able to get a Milltek catback exhaust ($3500-4k) and Redstar DPs for under $5k combined. AWE or APR are comparable in terms of cost, with AWE track version being louder.

That’s intresting I have stage 1 tune right now I’m looking to go stage 2 but the mechanic that installed the tune is telling me I need a down pipe to go stage 2 and he’s saying no downpipe would bolt up to my car with the stock exhaust and telling me I need a whole new exhaust also if I want a downpipe ? So he’s fucking with me cause your saying I can it no problem

yea idk maybe this mechanic is trying to rip me off but for a full miltech non resonated exhaust and DPs the estimate came out to about 8k and he said he looked at other options and there either more expensive or doesn’t fit my car. Performance wise I have a stage 1 tune so it’s pretty fast right now. I’m just trying to make the car louder and more aggressive sounding

He may just not know the market. There are a fair number of catted downpipes that bolt right up to the stock exhaust. Mike's in Russia, Red Star and CTS that looks like the old APR.

AMS looks discontinued on AMS site. https://store.ngpracing.com/ams-alph...downpipes.html
    Mike's http://mikes-custom.ru/index.php/com...-s7?Itemid=618
    Red Star https://redstarexhaustusa.com/audi-c...8-40-downpipes
    CTS https://www.ctsturbo.com/product/aud...-downpipe-set/

Not sure what emissions looks like where you are which is a consideration.

Hello. I am Keven, a retail sales rep at XLR8. I want to help you find the correct part. We stock thousands of parts from many different manufacturers like APR, 034, AWE, Milltek, Scorpion, and many more. And we offer free shipping to the cont 48 U.S. on most orders.
We offer Awe, Akrapovic, APR & Milltek. All great sounding exhaust. With downpipe, we offer Millitek, AWE, and I.E.
When going to stage two, you need a downpipe how; it is a requirement, and most downpipes fit with the stock exhaust, but if the sound is your end goal, I would go with both downpipes and exhaust.

Feel free to D.M. Me or send an email over at [email protected] or call in at 203-483-6100 ex 1002.

I second this. I'm getting older , and I just installed the IE tunes as well. I noticed an increase in the sound, but it could be because I have the sports exhaust. You might what to have someone drive your car while you listen ether in a different car or a drive by to hear it for yourself, it might be enough for now.

Maybe part of the issue is a misunderstanding about the tune stages? In the pre-EPA clampdown era, Stage 1 meant stock hardware and upgraded software. Stage 2 meant upgraded downpipe only, other hardware stock, and further upgraded software. Stage 3 meant in addition to downpipe, upgraded turbo (and maybe other stuff), and further upgraded software. Post-EPA clampdown, many tuners eliminated the version of software that went with the aftermarket downpipe, and changed the definition for Stage 2 to mean upgraded intake and upgraded software. So, presently "Stage 2" from companies like APR and DynoSpectrum do not require a new downpipe. Regardless, most pre-EPA downpipes were advertised as bolting onto stock exhaust without need for modification. There may have been exceptions. Maybe get a second opinion from a different mechanic? Assuming you're on Long Island, I'm sure AZ folk in New York can give you options.

by "EI stage 1 tune and tcu tune" do you mean IE (integrated engineering)? their stage 1 tune only requires intake to achieve their "stated" hp numbers. most 'newer' stage 2 tunes dont offer added benefits for downpipes, and it seems the rs7 uses sape pipes. if you are just looking for sound, and a bit more power, might just be better off getting catback for the sound and a few hp, and the intake ( rs7, srm)

What I have done to mine is to combine the RS6 Sport exhaust with my standard S6. Keep the normal rear mufflers, put on a Rs6 sport mid-muffler. Gives a nice taw V8 sound and costs very little tol. Additionally I bought a valve control system so that I can have them completely closed when I drive chill, or open at all times.

incorrect: op states he has IE (or EI) stage 1 tune. per IE, no increased performance with their stage 2 tune over stage 1 with intake. exhaust would help with sound and maybe a few ponies, but their stage 2 "upgrade" for $100 only codes out the O2 sensor codes from people running after market down pipes.

Other AZ threads debate whether intake upgrade helps HP. Consensus seems to be if going from S6/7 to RS7 airbox and bigger tubes, HP will go up (with right tune). I believe this applies at least to DynoSpectrum and APR.

    correct. per integrated,

    STAGE 1
    STAGE 2
Stage 2 is a full performance calibration to account for aftermarket downpipes looking for increased exhaust sound for track use. Due to the efficient 4.0L engine and stock turbo sizing, factory downpipes are not a restriction and upgrades do not increase power over Stage 1 with upgraded intake numbers.

I have redstar gesi300 shielded D/P's and the "suitcase" muffler removed for straight thru pass.. (sport exhaust valve simulators keep it ope at all times)

    RSE-arrives001.jpg

these, plus an APR st2 tune/TCU tune turn the crackles into bangs.. no drone either (as said above, these are well insulated interiors)

So you have catted red star dps connected to a stock exhaust? I want To do the same I’m just not tryna spend 8k on dps and a exhaust I was looking at mil tec it’s crazy expensive for the whole set up if I can make it louder with red star downpipes and stage 2 tune and a suitcase muffler removed that would be great Im looking to do exactly what your saying want the car louder and love crackle and bang noise. Rn I have a stage 1 ecu tcu tune from intergrated engineering

I've heard his car. FUCKING AMAZING. What's really kick ass is that if you arent on the gas, you can cruise around fairly quietly... That wont happen if you totally straight pipe. But cold starts are like a Vietnam era Huey... Shit will turn heads no question. Some day Im gonna steal it and drive it in the parking garage at work... The pops and bangs would be epic in there

Also, the build quality of Redstar pipes is the best I've seen. Its artwork.
