    Bilstein B12 Pro-Kit

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have scoured the forums for about an hour now trying to find out the consensus regarding the bump-stops when you install this kit. Users come up with multiple different quotes from bilstein about this kit “Keep the bump-stops on, trim the bump stops, remove the bump stops, remove only the rear bumpstops”. Does anybody know the best solution regarding bump stops on this suspension kit?

    Thanks

depends if you buy the right bump stops or not. I already had sport suspension and replaced with sport suspension bump stop and did not need to trim. Been 8 months and had no issues at all.

Here is a great link for the install of this kit: https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...ro-Kit-Install

The Bilstein B8 shocks have internal bump stops (at least they do on the front).

Did your kit not come with installation instructions? When I installed my B12 kit, it said in the instructions exactly what to do with the bump stops.

I just ordered a set last night, my suspension broke down when I was traveling and I had to get it towed. I would install myself but I don’t have enough time. The ECS tuning guy said I’m fine with removing the stoppers, it just that everybody has a different opinion on what to do with the stoppers. I think I will buy the sport set and see how it does?

Of all the things you could do with the bump stops the one thing I would definitely not do is not install them. I also would never take advice from ECS!

I installed this kit on my wife's BMW, no bump stops in the front and cut down rear. This was outlined in the install instructions with the kit.

I also do not know how you will be able to install the bump stops since the bilstein shock has a rod diameter twice the size of the stock shock.

In all the b12/b8 shock threads on here you are the first i have heard say they would not fit. did you try to put rear bump stops on front? they are different diameters mine fit no issues at all.

I didn't try, I only installed rear bump stops in the rear. I never even tried to install the front bump stops. Once again I installed this kit on a BMW, not my Audi.

I mean the guy was really nice and told me he ran bilsteins on his b5 S4 and said he removed the bump stops because they apparently are “internal”. Could you send me a photo of the directions? My car is 300 miles away in my hometown and I’m at college right now.

These are the directions I found in Bilstein’s website. I don’t see anything referencing to the bump-stops

There isn't any instructions for the B8 for sure. The shop I had my installed gave me a hard time about them saying there was nowhere in the instructions regarding the bump stops. The shop kept my rears alone and the car rode like shit. I ended up having another shop trim them down about an inch.

I contacted Blistein and asked about the b12 pro kit for both the avant and sedan and whether there were internal bump stops. Response below

There is a whole thread on this subject with how much and how to cut and also the part # for the sport bump stops that don't need to be trimmed.

Have this kit and 034 control arms. After catching some minor potholes and a few significant dips in the road at high speed, my upper control arms contacted the "suspension turret". I think that's what it's called. the suspension knocked that plastic cap out of place and bent the sheet metal there. I ordered the sport bump stops and strongly encourage that nobody go without. I bent the sheet metal back into place easily with hand tools, so I guess it's ok, but I feel like that wouldn't have happened if I was properly bump stopped and I don't know if the struts were damaged.

Also it looks like they may have redesigned the strut in this kit. I've been seeing the "b12 pro kit" that seems to have the "bilstein monotube upside down technology". This wider tube wouldn't fit the OE stops, maybe that's what somebody was referring to.
