ColorMFA vs 3DColorMFD / Clusters by Litke

I'll be sending out my new (to me) RS4 cluster to Litke to get repaired.

Does anyone have experience or opinion between the ColorMFA kit (sold by Litke) vs 3DColorMFD? They appear to be similar ideas and features.

Don't really know anything about the 3dcolormfd, but I've had a colormfa in my b5 rs4 cluster installed for about a year now. I love it! Litke was even really quick with support when I had an odd issue with the oil level calculations and within a week or two he sent me a new build of the software with a fix from the developers. So I can't say enough about how responsive and helpful he his. My one minor frustration is they've been promising wideband o2 sensor support for air/fuel ratio readouts for a while now, but still yet to be delivered. Only annoys me because I don't like gauge clutter, but no issues beyond that. I should add I'm even in line for another colormfa from Litke for another B5 cluster I like it so much.

    FWIW-
I have the same issue----I would very much like to eliminate the AFR/Boost gauge I presently have in place.....Still waiting for them to address this (well over 1-1/2 years now)
    Question-
Did you install the display yourself or have one of the repair shops handle that.... If the latter---by whom?????
    PS- REAL NICE instrument cluster!!!!

Thanks, the lcd was bad on the RS4 cluster when I got it, so figured no better time to do a colormfa. I actually sent my cluster in to Matt Litke (Clusters by Litke) and he did it about a year ago when the display came in. I can do soldering, but didn't trust myself fiddling with such small electronics and an expensive cluster.

Just in case OP isn't aware, the colormfa does accept boost gauge input. It's the small bottom right corner reading with the tiny turbo icon in my image. Comes with instructions to wire that in to get readings. But yeah, just no support yet for the AFR readings. Supposedly when it does come it'll be a simple reflash with a software update and there will likely be instructions similar to the boost gauge wiring to receive input.

ColorMFA vs 3DColorMFD / Clusters by Litke

I too have the color mfa mod on my RS4 cluster with a custom speedo layout. Since, my cluster was in kmh. Installed it myself which was was not that bad if, you are good at soldering tiny wires lol. I really don't know much about the 3DColorMFD. Only draw back was the lead time to get the colormfa. It was a 4 month wait but, that was because I was on the second run of batches being made. This was like 4 years ago so, I don't know what the lead times are nowadays. And I noticed a few vendors carries these now as well. All in all I think this was a great mod. It has most the functions you would want displayed on your LCD. And you can display what you want viewed. Has some pretty cool gauges built in as well. I linked a link below if, you want to read and see what the colormfa can do.

I've not heard good things about that one. He seems to be newer in the game based here in Colorado but from what I've heard the quality isn't there. Things breaking quickly and needing repair. Disputes over the work in the Facebook groups, that type of thing. Just what I've heard, maybe others have had direct experience that says different but I think his lead times are a lot quicker for a reason.

I had my cluster done by Matt Litke. Super easy to work with. Able to do some custom tweaks. Quick with communication and sent me extra supplies. So while I can’t comment on the other options, I can say the service and end product from Litke was excellent.

Have you looked into the FIS Control? Reads up to 9 external sensors along with all OBD2 data on the display. It does use whatever screen you have installed so it would not be in color unless you had a colored screen already. Probably my favorite mod so far

Thanks- I forgot about them....I had looked at those back in '13 and a complete rig was very expensive (controller, display, sensors, installation...) I had a few conversations with Stefan...I wonder if he still has his small operation.....I'll check that out--THANKS again!

I just got one and it was about 400$Shipped for the controller (display is your cluster). I buy my sensors from lowdollarmotorsports where they are about 30-60$ each, so not terribly expensive

The other one to look at is Qmatis. Similar to FIS Control…uses existing screen and connects inline with the cluster.
https://www.qmatis.com/us/ I have ColorMFA in both my B5 and b7…love it but would love it more if it had AFR, vacuum (instead of boost only), and Ethanol content. Matt is awesome to work with and his turnaround is fast.

    BUMP

    THANKS for the leads!
Got a note from Stefan last night and will check out QMATIS (another one I forgot about===I think this is a age thing!!!!)
PS- I keep forgetting that these two solutions only require a plug-in controller and sensors.

Yea that one is slightly cheaper and is basically the same just lacks as many extra inputs(IIRC it’s like 2-3 vs 9 on the FIS). I will say the customer service I got from Stephan has be awesome. I only have wideband O2, 4bar boost, fuel pressure, oil pressure, and meth injection sensors hooked up now but eventually will add dual EGTs and another wideband. Was going to with the qmatis but figured I’d be kicking myself for not spending a couple bucks more for the FIS. Plus it would be week+ long waits to get a response back from Qmatis when I was asking questions.
