    Used 2018 RS3 vs 2019-2020 ?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Found a used 2018 RS3 with just 15k miles; factory warranty still good for another 8 months
Would get the Audi CPO for 2 additional years
    Clean carfax

Is it a good choice or would you go for a younger car (2019 or 2020) but those on sale right now in Canada have the same mileage than the 2018 I've found (so their average year mileage is higher than the 2018)

2019 and 2020 will not sound like the 2018 so that's a major point for me (love the sound of MY2018)

Do you think used prices for RS3 will continue to skyrocket since the 5-cylinder has been cancelled in Canada ?

A 1-3 year used one is more expensive than what a new one was; market is crazy !

    Thanks

Theres not a whole lot different between them, sure the sound is a little different but the 2018 sounds can be brought back to the 19's and 20's with a tune. The 18's also have the center screen that retracts.

In terms of cost, they will be high for another year give or take but even after all this craziness goes away they still wont be cheap regardless of year.

My suggestion, buy the newest one you can with the least amount of miles if you plan to keep it long term, wouldnt worry much about warranty, unless the car had e85 running through it, they are plenty robust with just the standard Volkswagen/Audi leaking water pumps on some cars.
Stage 1 more than you RS3

In a lot of ways a good ethanol tune is better as the rotating assembly has dealt with way less detonation

Completely depends what your goals are and what other trim packages are involved.

I personally think the Dynamic Plus package on the 18s is a great value, if it’s equipped.

If I had to choose, I’d probably stick MY18 but I may be biased.

Isn't the Mechatronics in the 18s the best ones to have also? That's what I read somewhere.

Looking to keep the car until CPO warranty ends (2-3 years)
The 2018 is loaded (BO, sport exhaust, carbon fiber trim, adaptative cruise)
I was looking at a 2020 which had just 5k miles but it got sold before I had a chance to buy it

    Is 15K miles on a 2018 considered a lot ?

    Thanks

15k is not a lot for an 18 unless it was 1/4 mile at a time.

I'd really consider tuning the car, even if you don't plan to change any hardware. ~$1k for a 91/93 octane tune dramatically upgrades an already incredible car. Tuning means CPO is a waste and you can fix 19/20 sound. That may open up your options and potentially save money (upfront).

As above, 15k is not a lot. I bought my 18 with 40k miles and don’t have any concerns about durability.

I’m 6500mi into ownership and kept it stock power levels. It’s plenty quick stock and with a few minor tweaks can sound pretty good too.

If you can get it at a decent price, the 18 is a good value and I think these cars will hold value for a long time. Low mileage isn’t gonna matter as much because lots of them have low miles (thanks Covid).

Having factory ordered a 2019, stupidly selling it after 18 months and then end up replacing it with a 2018 nine months after that..it doesn't matter. Wireless charging showed up in 2019 but doesn't include wireless CarPlay.

Engine sound is not different. IDGAF what anyone says, my 2019 did not have the "sport" exhaust and my 2018 does. They sound exactly the same with catless midpipes. The resonators on the non-sport are like 1/2" longer than the sport. The mechatronic might matter if you're sending it to IMS for a $40k build, but if you're a weekend warrior, there is no difference there, either. Just find the right car with the right history, and either stock or modded appropriately, depending on your end goals.

In my local used market, there is about 5-7K $CAN difference between a low mileage 2020 vs 2018

The 2020s are 74-75K $ CAN with about 8-10k miles

The 2018 I’m looking at is 69K $ CAN with 15k miles; would you call that decent ? :)

So they basically sell at least for what their brand new MSRP was…. Crazy market but what can one do if you want one ?
