    2020 RS3, early upshifts during launch control

    Hi all, I have a 2020 RS3 with Unitronic Stage 1+ ECU and Stage 2 TCU software installed. I've only used launch control a couple of times since I purchased the car. Today I tried to launch the vehicle, in Dynamic/Sport, and the car upshifted to 2nd at 4-4.2k rpm. I let it cool for a few then tried again and it did slightly better but still shifted early compared to the other times I've tried to use launch control. Anyone else experience this before?

    I have experienced the same. I have the Unitronic Stage 2 ECU along with TCU Stage 2. I haven't used launch control (have only had the car a couple of weeks) but have floored it when in 1st gear and have also noticed early upshifts to 2nd. I assumed there was a reason for this and looking forward to any insights others can offer.

    Either you have tire slip or you don't have traction control all the way off.

    Out the Esc in sport or completely turn it off by holding it problem solves. I always run esc in sport, the traction control is way to sensitive

    It's one of the first things I do when I turn the ignition (turn ESC all the way off- long press/hold of the button until you receive the notification that it's "off"). And no tire slip; nice dry roads, brand new tires, no sound of slip. It's strange.

    Are you launching in Manual and it's still upshifting early? (1st to 2nd auto upshifts even in Manual but should run up to redline). Which Stage 2 TCU file are you running? Try one of the rev1e TCU files.

    Uh, why? Just use manual mode from the start.

    2020 RS3, early upshifts during launch control

    I am going back a ways but I had the same 1+ (E85) stage 2 TCU in mine

    I got better times putting the transmission in sport and letting the car shift itself. I think I got a 3.03 0-60 on my winter setup

    I would run into the same thing you did but I started launching at lower RPM and did not let the boost build all the way up to get the best and consistent results

    To the OP,

    That has happened to me 20% of the times or more with the traction control completely off. It has to do with spinning the tires
    8V RS3 [email protected] mph (ran a few 11.7s stock and ran 118+mph several times)
    8Y RS3 k&N filter ran [email protected] (ran 11.6 5 times and trapped 120+ several times)
    at 3100ft elevation

    I tested mine (stock tune) several times yesterday and found that if you put it in manual mode and do launch control, shifting 1-2 on your own, it will always hold the gear even with wheel slip if the TC is completely off/etc. Just shift it over to auto after the 1-2 and voila, no more short shift launches.

    Maybe not related but I would definitely try out the rev1e or the rev1e2 file as they are more aggressive than rev1e3. Also, just launch with the car in Manual, it auto upshifts 1st to 2nd anyways. Then you'll just have to worry about 2-3 and on.

    I've noticed this both stock and APR Plus tune in my 2020. Using launch control and manual mode shifting I find maybe 25-30% of the time it shifts early from 1-2. Once or twice I've experienced it in 2-3 as well.
