    0-60 Times Without "Launching"

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Has anyone ever compared their 0-60 time while launching with their 0-60 time with just flooring it from a stop? I launched my car a number of times when I first got it to experience the thrill of the launch, and I must say, it was thrilling. However, I also did it a few times to see what my best time would be. Turned out to be 3.4. Well, last night I realized I never just floored it from a stop and timed it to see the difference. It gave me a 3.7 0-60. Only .3 seconds slower than launching. Now, that may be a lot on the track, but just screwing around from light to light that will still leave a whole lot of muscle cars in the dust and with much less wear and tear on the drivetrain. Are these numbers in line with anyone else that has done this?

    tks, dal

Good question that I can't help you with. I recently purchased an B8 RS5 which has launch control, but I haven't elected to use it because I'm not looking for another repair bill. I also had a Porsche 718 GTS on warranty which also had launch control and never used it either – seems abusive IMO and it's not a drag racer type of vehicle. Not sure what "muscle cars" you're talking about because all of the relatively recent ones are geared toward this kind of performance and are competitively fast in a straight line (and some beyond). As former corvette owner, I can tell you without a doubt if you happen to find yourself next to a Z06 manufactured in the ~10 years, you're at best in for a fight (especially, if it's manual and they can drive it)...and no one stops at 60mph, let's be honest. Good luck with a Hellcat also... tell me how it goes after 60mph. Quite frankly, the RS4 was trashed by these idiotic reporters because it "wasn't fast enough" in comparison to the C63, but we AZ folks know what we'd rather have. If I continued this post any further, I'd probably get banned.

Also, if you want to roll people on the highway, 1.) please first don't drive anywhere close to me or my passengers and 2.) buy a different Audi.

Just a general comment on this.... I have seen 1.2gs launching with launch mode... without it but still brake torquing, it ranges 1.0-1.1gs. What that may equate to in time, I dont know. It still feels strong in the SOTP category.

Best I was doing when car was stock 3.6-3.7 without launching, I had my best run of 3.2 after mods but mostly 3.3- 3.4. I have yet to use launch on my car

It may depend on transmission as well as the engine. With B8R 3.0T with ZF8 transmissions the difference per Dragy is about .4 to .5 second quicker with launch control. At my fairly modest tune level on pump 93 that is about 3.4 to 3.5 seconds versus about 4.0. Some of that is also that my ZF8 is tuned to launch harder with higher launch rpm and allowed torque in 1st and 2nd gear.

I'm probably at about the same power level as a stock B9 RS5.

    Impressive stable Scott1961.

You sound like you either bought the wrong car or have never had any fun. I've beaten heavily modded vettes, mustangs, and even a pullied hellcat trackhawk all from a dig in my modded B9 S4. I have over 100 launches on it and my last audi had over 250 no problems. Go out to a dead street and launch a few times... Gotta live a little. Nothing to be scared of if you're not an absolute idiot driving it.

My post was really intended just to compare launch and non-launch 0-60 times and making the point that it may not be worth the wear and tear for just .3 seconds. I got some good numbers and facts from some regarding
G-Force numbers and 0-60 times stock vs non-stock. I thank you for that type of information.

However, I also seemed to stir up a little bit of emotion with some thinking I am running around doing 155 MPH on the highways endangering those around me, others thinking I am not enjoying my car enough and thinking I bought the wrong car. And others that think I am not knowledgeable about modern day muscle cars and what they are capable of even though I have had a Cobra Mustang, heavily modded C6 Vette and a Hellcat, just to name a few.

To those that provided facts and figures - thank you. To those that I may have ruffled a few feathers, sorry for causing you unintended stress.

PS - I would still use launch control going against a Hellcat, C7 ZO6 or any other Supercar and feel confident in being very competitive. :)

Agreed - DSG launch isn't as aggressive as brake loading the ZF8.. DSG slips the clutches to an extent on launch

LOL - Yes definitely thanks to a great AWD. It certainly is not because of cubic inches and horsepower. However, still darn impressive for a 6 cylinder.

Agreed, killer stable. I need a blue car. Off topic, but I'd like to hear about your Evora 400 because it's on my bucket list. Plus, I'm told I need to live a little and maybe that will help me.
