    Should I S6 or S5??

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I’m currently shopping in this crazy market for a car... and torn between the S5 sportback and the S6.

I like the utility of the sportback and it’s beautiful but like the 2.9t engine and interior upgrades with the S6 but don’t want to feel like I’m driving a Lincoln Towncar around the city. RS5 is not realistic for me with a commute 100mi. / day (not looking for a setup that stiff for that price upgrade).

Also started to look for some simple exhaust / tune mods and could get the S5 to sound real good and push close to the same hp numbers for short money but mods for the S6 setup is limited?

The S6 appears to be a more substantial vehicle in many aspects but is the S6 too big? Is it too “middle aged”? Is it taboo to put an exhaust on S6?

Is the S5 too small? Is the S5 over valued compared to S6?

Hoping to get some feedback from folks on both platforms and opinions on the benefits and drawbacks with each setup?

    Thank you!

As a previous owner of an s5 Sportback and a current owner of an a6 allroad I would like to point out two large noticeable differences:

    - rear leg room in the a6 is much much better
    - rear head room in the a6 is much much better
    - the ride quality in the a6 with air suspension is sublime, not sure how much it differs on the s6 but assuming that it’s still more comfortable day to day vs the s5.
    - I feel like the power delivery in the a6 allroad is pretty much on par with the S5 so I don’t miss the sportiness of the s5.

One of the other biggest differences is in the operation of the infotainment system. I actually prefer the mmi wheel in the S5 vs the dual touchscreens in the a6 but the new s5s now only allow touch screen as well so I guess not much of a difference.

Personally I think the s6 has much nicer proportions, stance, overall design and presence, to be honest not sure if these are even comparable. The s6 is also on par with the rs5 when it comes to price.

I used to have the rs5 sb, completely comfortable, the suspension soaks up the road. The 2.9T is a fast engine, but lacked some drama. I did not enjoy it much. I moved to a TT RS and a A6. A6 feels slow to me, but sooo comfortable. Will be tuning it soon, so remains to be seen if it becomes a touch more exciting.

Oh man... I think I'm hearing you guys loud and clear.

    1. The RS5 is a comfortable daily driver but back seats are a little tight

    2. The A6 is a more roomy/comfortable ride with better interior conveniences

Does anyone have any comparisons for the A6 vs S6 setups??
Is the S model worth it?
    Engine power for A6?

    Thanks again!

I think the s model is totally worth it!
I don’t have C8 A6 and S6 comparison but I did used to own a c7.5 A6 stage 2 prior to my currently S6. The power from the S6 is great compared to the A6, even after the stage 2. The S6 just gets up to speed so effortlessly.
Comfort is amazing, especially the air suspension.

Imo it's not the engine that's the big difference. The 3.0t and 2.9t aren't worlds apart especially tuned. Where the s6 really triumphs is the transmission. The A6 trans is really dull, it also has very real torque limits. They repurposed the dsg and built it up a bit. Also the other bits in the s setup suspension wise. The A6 rides very soft and doesn't give off a very sporty feel.

That said I love my allroad. A rs6 wasn't an option, so A6 was the path I went. I'll be going stage 2 with a trans tune very soon. Hopefully this car is hiding some potential.

And just to be transparent, if there was an s6 allroad, absolutely that's what I would have gotten.

    Edit:
Also if you are thinking s6, cost wise you are at the same price point as a m550i. I assume you are an Audi lover, but the 5 series looks amazing, and who doesn't love a V8.

I like the look of both and I think I’d give the s5 sb a slight edge especially if you tune. The 3.0 is more tuner friendly and doesn’t heat soak like the 2.9T as it’s air to water. The s5 is air to air and tuned it can run some really low 11’s and touch 10’s.
