HELP!!!! Completely Unresponsive with Dash Lights on

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi everyone.

So...Went out to drive my car this afternoon and it is completely unresponsive. Nothing works at all. But, some dash lights are on (EPC, Traction Control, Airbag, ABS and Brake) Strange no CEL. But, those dash lights stay on regardless if door is open or closed. No dome light. Keys don't work...nothing works.

I crawled in the back seat and popped the trunk to get to the battery. Tried to jump it from the battery (it's in my garage and my cables don't reach the front if contacted to a car in the rear)...nothing changed. Right now i have the negative battery terminal off trying to reset the ECU.

Thanks Spawne32. I hope thats not it...I don't have any of those tools...hahaha. But...difference is that hazard lights and parking brake don't work either. And, my dash lights are on where the car in the video they were off. Not sure if this is model specific. Could it be anything else?

The only place to really start would be to see if you could scan it with VCDS or OBDeleven for a module specific code, beyond that, check all the fuses. Even if it was this, i don't think we would have the tools available to us to properly diagnose and repair it. Comfort module coding is needed and can only be done at the stealership.

Yikes. Well, I'll start looking for fuses. Fingers crossed. Thanks for the help.

You know you jump this car from the front right ?
There is a positive pole under the square plastic cover up by the windshield centre on the car.
The negative is on the drivers side by the shock tower under the hood.

Disconnecting the battery will do nothing and not reset anything...

Dead battery seems probable; good to check that first.

OP said the jumper cables wouldn't reach the front with the car parked in the garage.

You can jump it directly from the battery, you won't destroy anything.

When you get around to making actual voltage measurements, you might start to figure out what's actually going on. That you have electrical issues, yet you're jumping straight to trying to start the engine before making sure your electrical is sorted, ....

So what voltage are you measuring across the battery posts? Are you measuring the same across the jump start posts under the hood? Are you measuring the same across the B+ post on the back of the alternator and the housing of the alternator?

Are you measuring voltage on the black fuse columns on the ends of the dash? Ie, is term 15 being activated. You say the keys don't work, and the lights on the dash stay on, so how do they go off? Are they just staying on till they kill the battery?

Far too little electrical analysis. And it'll be harder to conclude without a scan tool.

If a person doesn't own a scan tool, then the likelihood of them owning a multimeter is even less. If that's so, the chances that they would know what term 15 is is next to nothing. It needs to go to the dealer, that's the best advice anyone can give. lol

I jumped the car this morning, and it's running again.

I asked this question on the RSNAV support page on FB. Several replies asked if I had something plugged into the OBD2 port. I have an OBDeleven, and many said this would drain the battery.

    Something to consider.

Same issue after I left the OBD2 plugged for 3 days

    Dear,

I have the same issue, I left my OBD2 plugged for 3 days, now it's not responding, no electrical power, I think the battery is dead.

did you jump start it from the battery or from the front of the car ?

I jumped the car from the front in the engine compartment.

@those who plug "something" to the OBD-II port permanently, what does that give you and do you know it's worth it?

Happened to me as well. Had a multi week thread about this issue where the battery was CONSTANTLY draining over a few hours. Turns out it was my OBD11 causing the issue the entire time. Highly recommend NOT to leave any dongle, specifically an OBD11 plug in more than for what you need to use it for

HELP!!!! Completely Unresponsive with Dash Lights on

Hi Everyone. OP here. Sorry I never posted after I got it fixed. It was the battery. I had my OBD Eleven plugged into the OBD2 port for a couple days and it drained the battery. I remember trying to jump it and it not working. I think once it is in that state it needs to charge for a while. I ended up getting a new battery from the dealer to get it calibrated.

Thank you for tying that out.

My cam sensor wires were severed by nibbling rodents about a week ago so I’ve been leaning on the old battery too much since then. Hard to start, ran rough and EPC/engine light persistent. I finally noticed the wires after reading another post here on the issue and finding the sensor.

    I hope that does it!
