Anyone move / extend/ relocate the OBD port?

I have been thinking about moving the obd port somewhere like the center armrest or into the glove box.

I have larger feet plus I kind of don't like doing pulls with the cable across my lap.

    This might sound really stupid,
I've forgotten that my cable was plugged on a few occasions, gotten out of the car, caught the cable with my legs and just ripped the shit out of the port, laptop goes flying.. More than once..

I've heard that the ODB port is located in the center console on EU cars?
Seems like a pretty safe and accessible place for it.

Can you just plug in an OBD extension cord and just run that extension to either the glove box or center console, or where ever I want?

Can't see that being an issue....
FWIW- My B5 has a port labeled as OBD-II under the rear ash tray cover...It's not wired or in-place but looks like something done on Audis made for markets other that NA...
PS- I've done the same thing---forget about that connected cable and having "issues" exiting the vehicle...

Happens to me too all the time, I sometimes wish that there was a wireless VAGCOM would be possible.

I use an ODBII splitter I bought on Amazon.
I connect the Valentine One SAVVY and an ELM adapter for Torque Pro.

The only issue is it's prone to vibrations when the car is parked and has been known to set off the factory alarm.

I see no issue moving the port with an extension or splitter.

I have an Avant that to PO wired in an xtra OBD in the rear ashtray. It appears to be a very simple mod.

Funny you mentioned this I just picked up a Euro kick panel that doesn’t have a OBDII port so going relocate it to spot behind armrest. Figured that spot will be a lot nicer anyway for logging purposes. Placing a wire order tomorrow for materials and plan on just extending the harness as needed.

If you need any help with it just lmk.

Yea, That's part of the problem with mine, the obd cable just dangles over my dead pedal. Not mounted to anything, gets beat up.

Are you planning on cutting off the original OBD port, running new extension wires to a new location, then reconnecting the OBD connector at the armrest location?

What is it 16 wires? Were you able to find the original wire colors for the extension?

Yep that’s what I plan on doing..cutting and splicing. Havnt looked at wiring diagram yet but I don’t think there’s quite that many wires, think there’s 9, but no bigs if there is 16. I’ll match the wire colors if I have them but really just concerned about using the correct size wire and using a twisted pair for the can-bus.
Colors I’m not really worry about it I will try and match what I have tho.

It's only 6 wires it looks like, so even easier than you thought. Part of the dashboard wiring harness. I was thinking of just extending the wiring to move it elsewhere in my avant too since I've got a euro knee bolster. No better time than while I've got the interior stripped down to just the shell and a few wiring bundles.

It may be easier to just use an OBD2 extension cable than to splice into the harness.

Easier yes but I have concerns with mounting, correct length, and just using an adapter in general. IMO splicing and extending the harness isn’t a big deal but for someone that doesn’t want to tackle the project that’s a great alternative.
