How do I update Maps on 2018 Audi A5?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have a 2018 Audi A5 Sportback and I'm wondering how to update maps. I still have the original maps that came with the car from 2018.

    Any help would be appropriated.

You wont be able to upgrade, you needed to use your 5 updates in the first 2.5 years. You will need to visit an Audi Dealer and pay lots of $$$ for the map updates. My car is 2 years old and I cannot get the free updates, this really pissed off a lot of Audi owners. Wait until you see what going to happen when they shutoff your 3G emergency call features next month...a real f-fing disaster. It will be an OBD cellular connection (always plugged in) and will placed in the storage area below the headlight switch or left knee.

It looks like motion for Audi connect will use a device that plugs into the OBDII port. Here are some excerpts from the TOS.

    2. Description of Device and Services

The “Device” means the OBD-II device provided to you by AoA which is designed for use in connection with
the Services. The “Services” include (i) any software embedded in the Device, (ii) the Motion for Audi Connect mobile application (the “App”), including its associated media, online, electronic and printed documentation, and the updates and upgrades that replace or supplement the App, and (iii) any other services made available in connection with the Device or App.

Your hereby represent that you have (i) received a notice from AoA confirming that you are eligible to use the Device and Services, (ii) had the Device installed by AoA or one of its independent authorized dealerships, (iii) examined the Services and found them suitable for your needs, (iv) relied solely upon your own judgement and inspection in determining that the Services are of acceptable quality and fitness for your purpose, and (v) verified that installation and use of the Device and Services do not and will not interfere with or affect any vehicle systems beyond limits acceptable to you.

Information from the Mojio Hardware Device

We collect and use the information described below about the vehicle(s) in which you installed the Device. We receive some of this information via a mobile service provider. See section 3(b) “Mobile Services Providers” for further information on how the Device interacts with a mobile network.

    Vehicle Related Information

We collect information about your vehicle’s operation to provide you with feedback on your driving habits. For example, we collect data on hard braking, hard acceleration, and speed. To do so, we process information such as vehicle make/model/VIN, vehicle details (license plate, fuel grade, odometer, engine description), location details like trip routes and parked locations (including those marked as business), geofences, history of alerts and notifications, glovebox documents, vehicle recall and maintenance reminders. Using this information, we can provide you with tailored feedback with insight into your driving style that can help you save on gas and vehicle wear and tear.

If you access the Platform by mobile device, you may be asked to share your geo-location in order to make use of our geo-location services. You may also be asked to provide us with access to your mobile device’s contact book and phone number in order to use some of the features of the Mojio Solution, e.g. to communicate the location of your vehicle to your contacts.

Do you want to give Audi all that Data^?

As already mentioned, you can update through the myAudi website to whatever the last version your car was eligible for (30 months after the production date). Anything more recent the. That will require a trip to the dealer for an update.

The Motion Connect is just to restore the Audi Connect services. It won’t give you any free map updates.

Audi already collects all that data through the existing Audi Connect systems. They collect even more with the new HERE based MIB3 system since Audi, BMW, and MB own it and don’t have to go through Google to get the data.

Yeah the Motion thing is a OBD-II device, specifically the Gosuncn GD500. It has LTE, GPS, etc. I’ve reached out to my local dealer and can report back when I hear from them.

The Motion app is in the iOS App Store here, taken from the bottom of the informational site’s updated main page.

I think Audi USA removed the function a little while ago. They said they were going to update it but I don’t think they have.

Short answer is no. Long answer is yes but you run the very real risk of ruining the MMI system. Unless you absolutely know what you are doing, you should avoid this method.

Hmm ok, what about people charging and claiming they can unlock map updates, also are there instructions I can read through somewhere how to do it and make my own informed decision.

There are some links on this message board, I think in the A4 forum, but if you need to read the instructions I can tell you right now it's not something you should attempt. It is extremely technical and making a mistake will have very serious consequences for your car.
