2022 SQ5 - Sales price for ordered vehicle?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hello all. About to put up a small deposit to get in line for an allocation to order an SQ5.

When is everyone negotiating their sales price: at time of order or when it shows up at the dealer?
What is a realistic expectation re: pricing in this environment?
Is anything under MSRP a fantasy?

I had one dealer want $5k over MSRP to place an order (no thanks). So far, this dealer I am about to order with gave me a wishy washy answer of “we are not offering any discounts on S models.” Waiting to see the order sheet supposedly coming tomorrow.

When I ordered my ‘13 S4 it was a piece of cake: 6% under MSRP Audi of North America Club benefit agreed to when order placed. Now no dealers participate in that program because of the supply issues.

    Thank you in advance.

There also wasn’t a global microchip shortage or global supply chain issues affecting the global car market when you ordered that ‘13 S4…

Get your agreed upon price in writing. If the dealer isn’t shady the they’ll honor it when it comes in.

My local dealer honored the Audi Club discount on a ordered-for-stock '21 SQ5 SB Prestige. The dealership ordered it in Feb '21, I placed a deposit in May '21, and the vehicle arrived in July '21. Typically the Audi Club discount is 6%, however, the Sales Mgr agreed on 5% off an MSRP of $73K, which I was happy to accept, given the circumstances.

2022 SQ5 - Sales price for ordered vehicle?

Recently helped my son trade his 2014 Ford Focus on a 22 Ford Mach E, no discounts or add ons to MSRP but a much bigger than expected trade in for the Focus.
It seems like discounting the new vehicle is not happening but trade values are up 10% or more so that helps the bottom line.
Personally I would not buy a new car with any mark ups on top of MSRP, that is just a greedy dealer IMO

Hello. I understand this is a different world. Mentioning my past experience was to illustrate that I am not sure how to navigate the current conditions. Thank you for the reply.

I may trade in my ‘13 S4. The used car market could change downward in the 6 months it takes for an order to arrive, so I will see what happens. Good tip though. Thanks

MSRP would be acceptable to me provided they agree to apply any Audi incentives available at the time of delivery. And I am a past customer of this dealership I am now trying to work with again, so hopefully repeat business is still valued in this market. Thank you.

A lot of local dealers around me are asking 5000-7500 above MSRP for SQ5's that they currently have. Almost everyone I spoke to with any seriousness about a car dropped that markup with little hassle. I think its very reasonable to get MSRP and personally would not pay above. There are zero other incentives on vehicles now, loyalty or otherwise.

Bingo. Dealers are just reacting to the market and probably have to sell at MSRP or above just to survive. Their pipeline of new cars has been cut short, so they can’t rely on volume selling at a discount to make ends meet. Hence the markups and reliance on used car sales to keep the business going.

Most dealers will do MSRP especially if you’re a repeat buyer and are serious about buying. Negotiate the price now on a deal sheet and put a small deposit down. Your deposit is refundable so while you wait for your order to arrive you can search other dealers across the US to see if you can find the vehicle and options you want and then make a deal for that. If you’re looking to buy a vehicle that’s on the lot right then and there I’m sure you can negotiate a better discount.

I was able to get $4000 off MSRP and then another $750 for the PenFed discount. This was only because I had a trade in that the dealer wanted. And yes the dealer paid more than book for my trade-in, so it wasn’t a wash in the end…I came out on top.
But the initial deal sheet showed zero discount on the SQ5…after 2 weeks of back and forth we got the numbers I was looking for.

In the end the dealer still made money on the overall deal, but given the market conditions I felt the deal was more than fair in my favor. I don’t think I could have ended up in a better outcome during normal market conditions.

Used cars departments are really struggling too. On high line cars like Audi the vast majority of used cars are lease turn-ins. With so many people extending and buying out their leases preowned inventories are in pretty sad shape as well.

Thank you. Very helpful. What PenFed discount…I do not see any current offers on the PedFed site. Thanks.

There seems to be a fair amount of SQ5 inventory in my area. I question whether demand exceeds availability at this juncture.

Dealer got allocations. Was quoted MSRP plus $5,000 “market adjustment “ as the sales price for an ordered SQ5.

Asked for my deposit back. Will revisit in late Spring or early Summer.

Pricing will likely continue to rise. Recco buying now.

Even if that turns out to be the case, paying over MSRP is not something I’m willing to do. As I said to the salesperson, it’s a business, so if someone will pay that price, then that’s what they should sell it for.

I drew a hardline on nothing over MSRP. This included any dealership installed BS like Scotchgard etc. I don't know where you're located, but Audi Charlotte was able to get me at MSPR without mark-up. Lmk if you want to get connected with them and I'll give you specific salesman/manager contact information

Much appreciated. Will reach out depending where the dealers around here are at in the Spring. I’m in downstate New York.

The issue I have with paying over msrp is when the market adjusts, hopefully in the next 12-18 months, you’ll never see that on the back end of the sale.

Just bought a Lexus through Costco and got about a grand under sticker. It’s not a huge discount, but it’s a discount

Absolutely, I bought an L Certified es350 last July and sold it last month for 5k over what I paid. This market is ridiculous. That said, there is also inflation in general, and deflation is not generally a thing. Think about how Vettes used to cost 20k in the early 90s. This is a new shelf unfortunately. That said, I believe it will stabilize once people stop letting themselves get raped
