Replace rear engine splash guard (under belly shield)

Hello everyone. Had a big snow in VA last week and my son decided to drive backwards over deep snow and ripped both engine shields under the car off. The larger one (front) may be salvageable but the smaller rear one is destroyed. I ordered a new one from eBay and it showed the absorbent material (see attached picture) in their listing but when it arrived it did not have that absorbent material attached. I have looked up lots of these and most don’t show the material on it. Does it only come included on an OEM one? I don’t want to pay hundreds of dollars for one from the dealer, FCP Euro or ECS tuning. I called my local Audi dealership today and asked them about it and they said that they don’t show that material as being able to be ordered separately. He also said that the pictures on his computer don’t show the absorbent material on them either. Where can I get one for cheap that includes the absorbent material? Or, can I order just the absorbent material and if so, how would I attach it? I don’t understand why anyone would sell these without it. Any ideas on this? Thanks a lot.

    Part # is 4F0863822A.

It’s part of the OE guards. Most of the aftermarket ones don’t have the sound absorption stuff. I’ve been through several abs honestly I can’t hear a difference with or without the sound absorber material.

Ok. Gotcha. I thought it was to absorb oil leaks. LOL. I need that right now. It’s weird that I called the dealership parts center as I said above and he didn’t even show that his came with that material on there.

Change of topics here….I did a ton of work a few months ago to replace the valve cover gaskets, the cam girdle gaskets using the anaerobic gasket sealant, the spark plug tube gaskets, oil filter housing gasket, vacuum pump gaskets/o-rings, upper timing chain cover gaskets (silicone), VVT solenoid O-rings, etc etc and I still have a ton of oil dripping down from the back of the engine. For the life of me I cannot tell where it’s coming from. I need to put it up on a lift and do a good inspection. It’s not the oil separator gasket because I don’t see any oil down in the “valley”. My only guess is that it’s the rear main seal, or the rear (large) timing chain cover.

    Thanks man.

I too think the material is as much for asborbing fluids as NHV,,but unless an audi engineer is on forum we won't know. BTW impressive amount of work chasing all the oil leak options. do you have pics of the oil leaks. Also have you tried a dye or dyed oil to see that helps trace the leak?

I actually do know, as I bought one for my 2010 Avant in hopes it could be installed easily. The rear pans are not in ETKA, and the 6.5 Avants apparently don't have some rear mounting hardware installed, if I recall correctly. I had my Audi shop try to install after an oil service, and they said it would take more hardware than just the pan itself.

It's odd what VAG decides to jettison when it comes time to de-content.
