    Upgrade subwoofer speaker?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Can I upgrade the sub speaker in the back of my 2015 audi a3 ? And what is the size of that speaker aswell? Also I saw a YouTube video where I can hook up an Amp to that subwoofer speaker in the back by tapping in to the speaker wire ?

prob easier to just buy an enclosure to fit in the spare (either OEM from europe/UK or OEM helix upgrade for mk7 golf) and modify that if you don't want a box in the trunk.

I went that route in fiancee's Q5. Replaced one in the enclosure with https://www.earthquakesound.com/~ear...zoo/item/sws65 and smallest JL amp they make mounted to an OEM bracket in the trunk.

Would love to repeat on my car but too many projects at the moment.

The LC2i is a line convertor ... so it will take the signal going to the OEM sub (via speaker wires) and converts into a signal that you can input to your AMP via RCA's.

Sub size ... you can potentially fit any size you want, just need to make an adapter plate for mounting. I used a JL 8 inch sub and made a custom fiberglass enclosure so it fits neatly in the side pocket.

I also used my Epicenter from the 90's to maximize and enhance the bass output and also have control over it via the rotary adjustment dial.

On the BMW E90 platform, the SWS 8xi is a common plug+play replacement for the 2 stock under-seat subs. Require adapter plates which forum members print + sell for $20/pair. Stock drivers are 4ohm, SWS 2ohm. Even without additional amplification there's a decent improvement and easy nature of the swap has plenty of people on board. https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=711979

I wonder if we can do something similar with our cars. Low profile driver will be nice for those of us that don't want to sacrifice trunk space, and not *requiring* an amp would be a great intermediate upgrade as well.

What's the diameter of the stock sub?

Stock non-B&O sub is 2ohm 40W, single driver. Just bought a used one to take apart and try to replace the driver with an SWS unit.

Gonna try to upgrade the rear shelf sub by swapping with a shallow Earthquake SWS unit (6.5" or 8").

Non B&O stock shelf sub is a single 2ohm driver, B&O is dual 8ohm driver I believe so swap isn't as straightforward, have 2 incoming channels to replace with one.

Converted a stock sub into an adapter plate. Ordered a shallow-mount sub to fit in place of the stock one. https://www.earthquakesound.com/inde...ers/item/sws10

Once it's all together (don't expect stock amp to provide nearly enough power) will think about mounting/wiring this tiny amp behind the right side panel in the trunk. https://www.jlaudio.com/collections/...plifiers-98406

Yep but keep in mind will need some custom fabrication for the bracket. Earthquake sws are great since they're as shallow as the stock driver, great if you want a completely stealth install which I'm after...

If you can, find the jbl 810 or it's successor, it really has made the car audio that much better. Upgrading the midrange speakers in the front doors as well.

An amp is required, but if you use the stock amp temp, make sure you get the right ohm woofer, otherwise damage will occur.

this would work out, but the issue with this idea is that its not a perfect circle. for the effort and cost, i cant do this. i am still interested in seeing your process and finished product. i always enjoy innovation. keep us informed with photos.

but for me i am currently planning out a custom ring and using a jl audio subwoofer. not sure i can fit a 10inch but i know a 8inch works fine. currently the model i am looking at is sold out everwhere and i need to take measurements before committing to a size. i may even offer the custom ring to people with A3, S3, RS3 if it works out as planned. so you just drop in the rear and call it day. i would need to know diam size and thickness or you just want to max out the thickness. as the rear deck to the cushion is only 3inch deep. so leaving enough room for excursion, i would say a subwoofer ring of about 1inch to 2inch is good. min of 1inch cause you would want a good supporting base.

must get the nav tv zev V convertor to make sure all signals are straight.
doing a subwoofer install is fun but it does cost a lot to do it right.

i want to do an active front stage but with the bare space in the trunk i don't think i can pull it off with my amps i have. they are large and i have been wanting to use them forever.

That's my plan if this fails - 3d print some rings, ideally can scan the stock sub to get the mounting points + locating pins matched. Top of the unit is a perfect circle , it does taper in at the side as you can see but I'm hoping the SWS unit is shallow enough to taper in more and not interfere.

If this fails I'll switch to fitting an 8xi - 2ohm 8" driver which will be plenty in terms of power, weigh less, and have a shot at getting driven ok by the stock amp (non-B&O)

On the E90 forums someone very successfully printed them + sold them for $40/pair.

OK but I was thinking on going with a 8in sub so I didn't have to do work on the body or whatever in order to fit a bigger sub. I have a Polk audio 12in in a box but didnt want to add that either due to weight so ima try the 8in and if that doesn't work out well then I'll just return the speaker and get a diff one

Does anyone have any recommendations for the B&O sub replacement or can tell me how to retrofit 2 subs to work with the stock amp? I'm looking for a drop in replacement and when it comes to audio stuff, I'm a noob. Don't know much about the whole metrics of speakers or how to calculate what I should be buying. I bought a 2016 A3 with B&O and I'm 90% certain the oem sub is blown.

you should make a new thread for your question. that way you'll get more answers.

first thing, your stock amp isn't strong enough for two aftermarket subwoofers. the stock amp is not designed to really do that in the first place.

just spend the money to get a new stronger amp. it isn't that expensive.

it looks like DS18 line of subwoofers are a nice and cost-effective subwoofer option. they have slim profiles and different sizes.

I cut it off and obviously one side went to positive and other negative and have the amp to come on but not sure the speaker/wire setup
