Endurance warranty? 3rd party recommendations request

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi there,

I got a $6k quote for bumper to bumper 5yrs, 100k miles warranty from Endurance warranty.
Does anyone have experience with them or can recommend a 3rd party warranty that had good experience with?

I know similar posts are online but I mostly found people complaining about companies such as iDeal and Patriot but I couldn't find a thread necessarily recommending one.

Thank you for helping me out.

I've got Assure Guard Ultimate Guard on my A7, it is incredibly comprehensive and they have covered everything the dealer has proposed without batting an eye. ~$11k paid out in yr 1.

Warranty vs no warranty depends on what you can do with wrenches under the hood as well as what you plan for the car. If you can do your own work then it’s debatable on actually needing a warranty. If you plan to tune the car then you need to find a warranty that allows for tuning. Audi warranty will void a warranty if they find the tune in the computer.

Big tickets on the 4.0 platform are turbos, DSG trans, and the air suspension components. PCV can be a problem but Audi has extended the warranty on some years.

I don’t have insights past that as I have an A7 out of warranty and turn my own wrenches.

    Thank you for the information.

Would you mind sharing who did you purchase it through?

I can do decent amount of work, although I probably wouldn't touch DSG.
However, this is my daily commuter and if it breaks, it needs fixing ASAP as I don't have a backup car.
My schedule is such that I might not be able to get to a major repair for a couple of weeks, which is a non starter :(

Maybe an approach is to decide which mechanic is going to do the "ASAP fixing", and ask them what is the best extended warranty they work with. Seems like speed of repair is more important to you than saving a few bucks.

    Thank you for that suggestion.

I will call a couple of Indy shops in the area to see what they suggest. Seems like a great approach.

Fidelity Warranty Services use to underwrite Audi’s extended warranties back in the day. Over a year ago, they were an option I looked at and wish I did go with them (instead of iDeal) - ~$6k for a 2014 S7 w/ 11k miles

Other people have said Audi dealers have offered them an Assurant Extended (3rd party) warranty. Another option would: call the local Audi dealer and see what companies they sell VSCs through.

If that is the case and you cannot wait on some repairs and you would need it fixed ASAP as you say, you are still gonna need wheels while the car is in the shop. An Audi dealer will be more expensive on repairs but will probably give you a loaner for the day while its in the shop. I can't think of any indie shops that will offer that service so you would be stuck renting a car for the day unless you have it in the warranty contract to cover a rental.

Sorry for tossing in some more things to think about.

I called a few places and read through contracts. I figured I'd share some findings.
Long post but if you're shopping for extended warranty it might help you.

Bottom line for me was, skip Endurance, Carchex, Total Warranty services, AAA warranty (they don't cover S7).
Select Fidelity offered by Audi dealer.

Read through contracts and don't trust what you're being told over the phone!

    FIDELITY WARRANTY SERVICES
is what Audi dealers offer for extended warranty.
They offered me Platinum plan for 5yrs, 60,000 miles for $6k. These are additions to current ODO, so my car will be 10yrs old and 97k miles at ODO.
Platinum plan is an Exclusion based plan. Means everything is included other than what's listed in the contract as excluded.
That list is not very long but it does list damages due to oil flow restrictions are not covered. I called them about it and they said it'd be difficult to prove that turbos failed due to oil flow restriction especially if everything was stock and oil appeared acceptable. I was told it's for situations where oil pressure failure warning occurred and the car continued to be driven. Of course, these are just words.
    I selected that plan.

    ---------

    ENDURANCE Platinum
offered me "bumper to bumper" plan, fully inclusive and equivalent to new OEM warranty with full authorization for any labor rate.
Price of $6.6k and 100k at ODO so ~60k miles for me.
But "bumper to number" is just a marketing name and the list of excluded parts goes on for half a page in the contract.
Excluded things are for example: Led, head/tail lights, "illumination of any kind", Struts, shocks, Mounts, throttle bodies, sunroof and mechanisms, keyless entry, nuts, bolts etc.....
BUT then it goes further. There is another section that states that "following optional coverages are included only if selected as an optional package"

    Enhanced labor package
The labor rate max as listed in contract is $125/hr unless you've paid extra for "Enhanced labor rate" and then it's $225.

    Luxury electronic package
In here are LCDs, radios, cameras, sensors, sunroof, seat heaters etc.
BUT limited to only one repair of components per life of contract and not to exceed $500!

So basically unless you knew to opt in those packages, you're out of luck for covering full labor anywhere or getting your LCD, ECU fixed. But even then you'll get only $500

    ------------

    CARCHEX Ultimate
5yrs and 75k miles at ODO for $5,900
Limit of total liability is only $15k. I didn't read any further.

    ---------

    TOTAL WARRANTY SERVICES
I didn't get a quote after I saw the following in the contract.
    Required maintenance section
You must have Your Vehicle serviced in the following manner every six (6) months or six thousand (6,000) miles, whichever comes first:
    1. Change engine oil and filter.
    5. Check and maintain drive axle fluid level. 2. Check PCV valve operation.
    3. Check and maintain power steering fluid level. 4. Check and maintain transmission fluid level.

BUT then it states "You must keep receipts which verify the Vehicle Identification Number,", so basically I'm reading it as dealer generated receipt and oil change every 6 months.

Also, excluded are: suspension air bags among other things.
    10. FOR ANY BREAKdOWN CAuSEd BY CONTAmINATION, OVERHEATINg, LACK OF COOLANT OR LuBRICANTS, ImPROPER SPECIFICATION (TYPE) OF FLuIdS, LACK OF OIL VISCOSITY, SLudgE OR RESTRICTEd OIL FLOW. ExAmPLES INCLudE BuT NOT LImITEd TO: ENgINE ANd TRANSmISSION.

    Hope that helps anyone.

Just another datapoint for your consideration. I got a CarChex used Gold for a 2013 S6, mostly because I wanted to be covered in case the turbos went out. Cost to me was 4,232 for 3 year/36k miles.

Used the warranty once when one of my motor mounts blew. I had the local Audi dealership do the work. Audi dealership said they were a pain to work with. They didn't want to cover the full cost, didn't want to pay for OEM parts, etc. They ended up covering about 1500 or so, and I covered about 500 of the parts/labor (I paid this extra amount to get OEM parts), plus another 179 diagnostic fee.

Overall not too happy with the experience so far... thought I was getting one of the better third party warranties, but they haven't been the best to work with. Wouldn't recommend them.

I bought through my local credit union while financing the vehicle. They hadn't even mentioned as an option, but I asked if I could finance some extra to pay for Audi extended warranty and I'm glad they said no, because the AssureGuard is cheaper, more comprehensive and no TD1.
