looking to pick up 2022 rs5 sportback, what are the preferred & must have options?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
there is a new one sitting on the dealer lot ready to go with most everything I want (audi sport package, black optics, black badging, 5 arm flag design wheels) but missing premium package (included advanced driver assist, b&o sound, wireless charge, overhead 360 view, various driver aids, etc...) and rs appearance package... what do you all think... are these and any other options contained therein must haves and therefore deal breakers?

and between the wheels the all black or 5 arm flag design wheels?

    Thanks!

Hi would not be spending that much money on an RS5 that didn't include the premium package. Personally I don't like the flag design wheels and had to order mine with the black evo wheels. Glad I did.

Premium package is a must have IMO. You’re spending a lot of money on luxury car just to not have the luxury options. Defeats the purpose.

Rs was meant to drive. Why would you want the electronic nanny’s doing that for you. Get a Tesla if you need help driving. Just my thoughts.

Tend to agree with you... what exactly in the "premium package" is considered a must have option(s)?

Also, do most prefer the glossy evo vs 5 flag wheels? seems the 5 flag cost more and are the better audi sport forged (possibly lighter and stronger)?

Also, if you don't order premium with the nappa leather seat surfaces... what do you get? Faux leather?

And do you all like the RS appearance package? Doesn't seem a must have and me thinks that alcatera will not wear well on the steering wheel... thoughts?

Sure, but when you're on a long trip all of the assists are great.

The B&O stereo is great, the 360 cameras are super convenient, as is the drivers assist for long trips. I don't understand how any this takes away from it being a "drivers car". It's not some track focused monster. Plus easier resale down the road.

The seats are a more plain looking alcantara if you don't get the nappa leather. As for the alcantara steering wheel, this is personal opinion, but I love them. If you take care of them they will look great for many many years.

Blind spot monitoring is also a great safety feature. Also, the emergency braking feature is very nice. Honestly, I don't see how any of the "nannies" take anything away from it. Like previously started, it's not a dedicated track monster, it's a GT car.

I think you guys miss understood what I was saying. Rs5 definitely not a track car. Where we live “Midwest” I don’t sit in bumper to bumper traffic. If I did I would have another car for committing. We also have an sq5 and a new gti. Both of these other cars have the auto stop and such on both of them I hate when it happens. 99% of the time I don’t want it to stop. Like backing out of my driveway, I can’t roll slowly to the end of it with out the nanny’s pulling death stop if someone is coming down my street. Usually with my coffee in my hand. I meant that out on the road I don’t need my car nudging me back in my lane. Don’t need my car parking for me. I just wanna drive and be free to make a lane change with no blinker if nobody’s around.

The flag design are forged and would probably last longer. The evo wheels are still built to spec and will last, and in my opinion look way better.

All of those "nannies" can be turned off in the RS5 so I don't see the problem. It's honestly so easy to drive in traffic daily.

None of the drive assistance features are intrusive, and they can be easily disabled with physical controls.

so consensus is premium and audi sport packagers are the must have options?

wondering if the lack of premium package is causing the 2022 to be sitting on the lot despite the supply shortages we have... honestly didn't think it was that important...

I see a lot of the driving nannies are already included stock...

It might also be because a lot of dealers are adding markups.

the one I was quoted was the same as audi.ca mrsp list of $89,200 with no markup added... plus a loyalty of 1% discount on lease rate or purchase outright loyalty discount...

what type of markup are others seeing?

Considering the delays in delivery and shortage of stock maybe this is a good deal...

Canada gets a lot of weird car configurations, not just from Audi. You're probably intermingling with a lot of US folks on here, so there's probably a level of confusion. Looking at what the Audi Canada website lists under the "Premium Package", this a combination of things the RS5 gets by default in the US plus things that are part of the driver's assistance package. I'm surprised they even sell the base RS without them, but then again, when converting the CAD MSRP to US MSRP, your RS5 starts for about $5000 less. But anyway - if I look at the list of options the premium package in Canada includes - I would personally not get an RS5 without it. You'd be losing part of the "Luxury" Sports Car experience. I'm sure people would argue that they don't need any of it, but at least the adaptive cruise, Nappa seats, and the B&O sound are a must have if you're paying that kind of money for an Audi. Otherwise go for a Base 911.

Audi phonebox with Qi wireless charging and signal boost
    Top-view camera
Fine nappa leather seating surfaces with honeycomb stitch
Bang & Olufsen 3D sound system
    Rear seat USB charging
    Traffic congestion assist
Adaptive cruise control with stop and go
    Audi pre sense front
    Hands-on xetection
    Traffic sign recognition
    Audi active lane assist

Thank you for the detailed and thoughtful response deltahawk5... makes plenty of sense and hadn't thought of the points you made. I totally agree with you and I'd throw the top view camera (360 degree view) and wireless charging in there as well.

All that being said, the only other 2 sticking points at this price point is the lack of ventilated seats and flat bottom steering wheel... of which both are not possible options anyways.

Personally I am glad my RS5 SB does not have the so called safety options. We rented a Q5 over the summer with all of that on it and I was miserable. It kept intervening while I was driving. Literally if I wasnt centered in the lane it would pull the car centered. When driving on twisty roads (we were in Maine all roads are twisty) it wouldnt completely know the edges of the road and pull the car away from what it thought were the edges constantly. I finally figured out how to turn it off. Also the overview camera is cool, but according to Audi has to be recalculated every time anything is done with the tires/wheels or windshield. They charge $400 for this recalculation. For me, that is a waste.

A replacement windshield, yes it has to be recalibrated (most glass replacement shops have the same calibration tools now and do it for a quarter of the price). There is no need to do anything when changing wheels.

lol wow. Even my dealer only charged for recalibration when they did an alignment. Otherwise, they've never charged when putting on new tires or swapping my summers and winters.

There's like, one button you press to turn them off. Lol. Read the manual.

Glad I don’t have to press that button every time.

It remembers the setting so you only need to press it once.

When you are in a rental car there is no manual. I even looked it up online and there wasnt a clear answer. Either way.... glad my RS5 does not have it.

On most Audis, generally 3 stalks with a possible button on the end of each; doesn't take long to determine what each of them might do - figuring out all the possible MMI variations/effects is a different exercise though.
