    Dragy 0-60 2013 Audi Q5 2.0T: (Stock vs APR Stage 1 93 Octane)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I just tested a few dragy runs on my stock 2013 Q5 2.0T before and after getting an APR Stage 1 tune. Wanted to share results in case anyone finds this useful.

When fully stock, the best I could do was 7.96 seconds and that was in manual mode. It was just slightly slower in sport mode.

I know these 2.0s are not fast but I was surprised by just how slow this 0-60 was. Does that seem believable to you guys? Or is perhaps something wrong with the car? It has 48k miles and has recently been serviced at Audi dealer. Is there a trick to launching these cars given that it does not have launch control?

I just got the APR stage 1 tune 93 octane and did some more Dragy runs directly after. My best result/time was also in manual mode.

In summary, I almost got a full second improvement just from the tune. That being said, the car is still pretty darn slow :-)

    See results below.

    I had a 2011 A4 6 speed manual with the 2.0T motor and Stage 1 APR 91 octane tune.
My best 0-60 was 6.1 seconds

After I went APR Stage 2 with 91 octane and a high flow CAT, my 0-60 dropped to 5.3 seconds. Unfortunately I didn't have a Dragy back then, so my times are based on ODB2 readings and measured via the Torque Pro app in Android. Accuracy of this might be questionable, and doesn't give any idea of elevation gain/loss and density altitude, though we can assume I was nearly at sea-level each time (Portland, OR). Granted, the Q is a bit heavier than an A4 but with your 93 octane tune I think you should have an extra ~20 ft/lbs over my 91 tune. You'd think that would make up at least some of the difference.

And yes, there is a method to get a good launch, also known as AMAX mode
    Put it in sport mode
Push the traction control button once for partial disable (don't hold it to fully disable)
Push the brake hard all the way to the floor
Keep the steering wheel perfectly straight (if steering angle is off, it will not engage AMAX mode)
Push the throttle all the way to the floor and hold for about 1 second for RPMs to come up (should hover somewhere around 2200rpm or so with a stock TCU tune)
Let go of the brake and let the car shift automatically

Hopefully with this method you see some better times.

Aside from that, I would get some VCDS logs and check to see if any timing is being pulled. Less than perfect fueling will result in timing being pulled and that could be affecting you. An easy-ish solution here is to put in a gallon or so of e85 to bump up the octane a little if this is indeed the culprit.

Also, go check out the A4 forums - they've got the same motor as you and a LOT more people to bounce ideas off of. You can also probably find a 0-60 thread and compare your numbers and modifications to other folks to get an idea of what you should be getting.

Thanks for all the info. That’s helpful.

This is my daily driver so I won’t be putting more money into additional mods. The stage 1 tune is currently all I plan to do.

I will look into some of the things you suggested to get more info and confirm the car is running optimally.

As stated above, try a run with AMAX launch control. That typically knocks off a full half second 0-60. One other thing: to activate AMAX, the transmission must be fully up to internal operating temperature.

My 2009 (Eurospec) 2.0T does ~6.3s when launched, it's got an APR STG I tune + test pipe delete (HFC). Previous to the tune I could never go any lower than 7.2s. Having said this, I do not launch it very often as it puts a lot of stress on the gearbox, I enjoy the extra power (and torque) on the highway, merging and overtaking are way easier now, I'd not say it's a fast car but it ain't a snail either, not bad for a 2009 car that went through all major procedures (oil consumption fix, refurbished gearbox, improved intake manifold, aftermarket RMS, etc...).

    Dragy 0-60 2013 Audi Q5 2.0T: (Stock vs APR Stage 1 93 Octane)

    IMG_3027.jpg
    UPDATE:

I re-tested after switching to E85 and also used the launch tips outlined above. I was able to hit 0-60 in 6.12 secs.

Not bad for only doing an 1 ECU tune and filling the tank with some different gas.

I have no intentions to drag this car or do a ton of launches. Mostly just wanted it to be fun to daily drive and not feel slow. I have accomplished that.

Going forward, all my money for mods will go into my RS3.

Dang nice job! Almost another second faster just with better fuel and launch technique. The numbers you are showing now line up roughly with what I'd expect with your tune and platform.

100% E85 (didn't know you guys could do that) or a blend?

    Much better 0-60!

Pure E85. Full tank. I don’t have an ethanol sensor on this car but I do on my other car. The station I go to is usually between E70 and E85.

The 2.0T fuel pump and injectors usually have enough capacity for e85, especially on just stage 1.

However if the tune is for 93 your fueling is going to be way way off. Probably close to 30% fuel trims or more. You are relying on the o2 sensor for safe fueling, which is not a good idea. Plus timing for e85 is different as well since the ethanol has a slower burn speed than gasoline you usually have to advance the timing more to really take advantage of it.

If it is an e85 file than disregard all of that lol.

Your launch on that 6.12 run was significantly better. Probably making up for the majority of that better time.

APR stage 1 on the b8.5 flex fuel cars is a true flex fuel tune. they offer 91/93/100 programs but you can run whatever blend of ethanol you want.
