2019 Q5 won’t start, Park Assist button flashing red

So today my mother-in-law parks my wife’s Q5 she’s been borrowing and when she goes to get in the car wouldn’t start. I go out to see what the issue is and when I try, the Digital Dash and the MMI are black. The exterior and interior lights turn on, but the car doesn’t turn over even though you hear the typical electrical noise of the vehicle. I tried my spare keyfob and no dice, same behavior. I tried again by inserting the keys into the designated cup holder location to see if that fixed the issue and still same behavior. I then checked the battery and it’s showing 12.6V and I know the keyfob batteries are good since I changed them maybe 6 months ago.

Anyone familiar with this or had the same experience? I’m wondering what the issue and the fix will be once the dealership looks at the vehicle. It has ~29K miles on it, CPO so under warranty but to just randomly happen and no prior warning isn’t comforting.

    Thanks I’m advance!

    Spit-balling here...

Has anyone spilled liquid while in the rear seat lately, or recently drive in a heavy rain? The Gateway Control Module in the B9 Q5s/SQ5s has just been recalled. If the module shuts-down, it can display this type of erratic behavior.

    Text from the NHTSA site:

Several warning messages will appear if the gateway control module shuts down. The error messages occur due to the interrupted communication between several systems. Even though several systems are displaying a malfunction, not all of these systems are impacted.

Yea I saw that the other day and was wondering if that might be the case. I will be asking about that once the dealer calls.

So it was the gateway control module. The dealer has seen five other Q5 and SQ5s with this issue recently. The service advisor said the unit is contained inside a tin and you’d have to spray a hose directly on it, and they believe the issue is condensation. The drivetrain and Quattro system is right near the gateway controller and what they believe is happening it heats up and with cold weather it’s cooling down to where condensation is forming inside the tin box and causing the units to fry. He said he has an employee who has a new SQ5 with ~1000 miles and gateway controller also dead due to water. Good thing the gateway controller should arrive Tuesday, but I’ll have to go back in February for the fix that Audi is rolling out for the recall.
