Audi power Passenger Seat will not go forward or back all other seat controls work.

    Hello-

I have a 2005 Audi A4 B6 Cabriolet and the passenger seat does not go forward and back but all other seat controls work. The seat motor makes no noise at all when triggering the switch forward or back, Unfortunately, the seat stopped working in the full forward position blocking access to the front bolts which hold the seat to the floor. I tried looking under the seat where the wires come into the seat but cannot see the wiring block or much of anything, Vagcom shows a 02011-Right Entry Assistance Control Module (J573) 49-00 No Communication.

My guess is that the -Right Entry Assistance Control Module does not impact this issue - or does it. I located the 30 Amp fuse to the seat behind the trim panel on the the right side of the car under the glove box (glove box is out now because the door latch is broken - awaiting parts - separate issue). The fuse is fine and there is 12V to the fuse.

I wanted to check the switch that controls the the forward and backward movement of the seat. I think the trim piece over this switch is held on by the Seat Trim Retainer - any advise as how to remove the trim piece would be appreciated. I believe that the switch can be replaced without removing the seat. Assuming that the switch is ok, is there anything else I should check before removing the seat?

I have read other posts about removing the seat without access to the front bolts holding down the seat. I will try that if I have to but would rather not.

Any further advise would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Similar thing happened on a Passat wagon I bought back in January for my parents. Driver seat did not move except lumbar. Turned out the cowl drain got clogged, water got under the carpet, and the wiring corroded away. Module was fine; fuse was fine. I had to get a wiring diagram to know which wires to jump, then jumped the seat forward/back motor at the switch connector. Then had to replace the section of harness that was corroded. Fun times soldering in below freezing weather.

I'd suggest buying a one-day subscription to Audi erWin and downloading all the PDF manuals for your car (and any other Audis you may have).

Idk if it's similar, but I recall one or two screws underneath where the seat storage is at the front, and then being able to pop off the trim and the switch panel (might be 3-4 screws holding it in place too).

Thanks. Removing the seat storage might give me better access to the seat wiring as well. Will work on it tomorrow

Can you raise the seat up to its full height and get a stubby triple square bit and ratchet to fit under the seat?

We shall see tomorrow if I can get access. I understand that I might get access above the slide where the seat attaches to the slide. No way to access the front bolts that secure the slide mechanism to the floor. Thanks

Been working on this for days. I cannot see any wiring issues under the seat. Can't access all the bolts that attach the seat to the slide. I am going to try to push the seat back manually while pushing the seat switch. Since I do not hear the motor - I do not expect this to work. I think I will have to sawzall seat out and replace with a new one. Any final thoughts before I start sawzalling would be appreciated.

My guess would be a bad motor. I had one go bad once. They can be harvested from the junkyard. Unfortunate that it's the front/back one. Good news is that if you get the seat out, that's the easiest one to replace.

I have a cut down triple square bit that I have used with a box wrench to get to them at the junkyard. You should be able to access the front bolts by raising the seat front with this method. Good luck.

Thanks but I gave up and purchased an oem used seat on Ebay which will be here tomorrow. After I get the seat it is sawzall time. I never anticipated the extent of this problem - maddening. And a shame to ruin a perfectly good seat because I could not reach 2 bolts. Any ideas on how to stop the new seat from moving 2 far forward or back to reach the 4 bolts at issue? Thanks to all for the advice.

Sounds like the motor failed. Pretty common. Best of luck.

Sawzall + new eBay Oem seat. Waste of the original seat was sad but all is well. Thanks for the ideas.

When your ebay seat arrives, you might want to remove the driver's side seat, and plug your replacement in and see if all the seat motors work, before sawzalling your original seat.
