    OpenSource tuning and SimosWiki

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
This has been brought up on golfmk7 but I wanted to post this here since I am new to the 8V community.

Some guys on golfmk7 have come up with an OpenSource tuning solution that uses the TunerPro to write files and then either a PC app called VW_Flash or a phone app called SimosTools to flash your ECU/TCU using a Macchina A0 dongle.

They have integrated high speed logging through SimosTools of any parameter the ECU sees. They have also written patches for timing advance/boost by ethanol content if you have a flex fuel sensor, affectionately named OpenFlex.

All of this is OpenSource so the only things you need to purchase are the dongle (60 USD), and you are off and running.

Just wanted to put this out there if anyone is more of a DIY person are wants to go down the rabbit hole a little.

Here is a link to GolfMK7 that shows all the development. In there I believe it is mentioned that there is a standard box code for the ECU that the definitions have been written for.

I have heard of but never scoped out Nefmoto, in fact several of the guys developing VW_Flash and SimosTools reference Nefmoto. I guess the Wiki could be similar but its more a tuning solution than a forum. There is however a Discord that everyone shares advice etc, the little community is super cool.

Check this out, not just a forum, back in the ME7 days this is what we used. Complete tuning solution.

Brian has been really working to clean up and polish the Windows GUI version of VW_Flash. He also wrote a good "how-to" guide with pictures and such, which should be very useful if you're thinking about getting into tuning yourself:

They are working on map switching, I believe it is strictly torque values right now, so the ability to switch boost maps. Its seems as though everything is sorted out. I have been driving around for a few hundred miles so far on the OS tune, I have been using the SimosTools app to watch everything while driving daily and it all looks great. Not sure what other updates will be done in the future. Aaronc7 has his finger on the pulse much more than I do in terms of the Discord and what is being developed.

Gotta give the people what they want. Who doesn't love the dichotomy of owning an Audi but having pops and bangs.

    Also for those feature hounds.

How dare you bring it back. You can PM me and I can see if you can be added to the Discord so you can get a lot more information.

Also there is a Discord for anyone who wants to learn more about the OpenSource tuning capabilities and current patches etc.
