    Sport Exhaust Full Open

    Gents,

Apologies if I've missed a thread on this already, but is there any way via coding to have the exhaust dampers fully open 100% of the time (on start up, etc...). I see where there are Kufatec or CETE modules that can accomplish this, but was curious if there was a coding option as well. Sounds so good on start up only to be muzzled seconds later.

Just so you know, even fully open the exhaust won't sound like it does at startup at idle. If you want to see what it will sound like you can just unplug the exhaust valves.

Thanks Dave. May try that just to see what I'm working with...or missing out on.

FWIW - I've been running with the exhaust valves wide open via disconnecting the plugs since day one (and have the front resonators deleted) and love it. Did this on my C7.5 RS7 also.

Start the car (cold start) so the flaps open. Turn the car off while they are open. Now take a peek under each muffler and on the outer side of each muffler, you will see a "plug". Its a push clip. Just unplug (it will be straightforward when you see it) and zip tie them out of the way and voila - wide open all the time.

Went ahead and disconnected the two connections and is a big improvement for little effort! Let the car run for a minute or so and for this short period of time I didn't see any warnings, etc...

None what so ever. As I said, ran this since day zero on the RS6 and ran this for ~18 months on my previous RS7. Zero issues.

When unplugging exhaust valves on other Audi model (RS3), there would be no codes, just a soft code. However, it limited boost and lowered performance. Might want to check if that happens with the RS6.

I’ve been contemplating going the disconnected route to see how things play out, but outside of zip-tying the cable up any thoughts on how to cover the male/female connections to protect them from the elements? Wish I could prototype dummy connectors. 😉

I did some legwork and figured this out with my c7. Let me see if I can figure i what I bought. For the valve I just bought another wire side connector from a dealer and for the wire side I found something at digikey.

Were you aware of AWE’s exhaust simulators? While these (see link) don’t show to be compatible with an RS7, thought about giving them a shout to see if maybe in development.

For anyone interested, I spoke with AWE today and they advised that their exhausts and supporting valve simulators for the C8 RS platform are in development. Targeted availability in approximately 2 months.

Anyone know if unplugging the valves limits boost on the RS6 like previous post noted on the RS3’s?

Yes, but I found no need for them. The soft code that it threw being unplugged was not an issue (i have not seen an indication 4.0t's cut boost like the 2.5t) and I found no need to spend 100$ on what amounted to a plug cap (and the simulators don't even provide a cap for the valve side)

Anyway, what I ended up ordering was the following from digikey for the harness side at the exorbitant price of 1.03. I do recall I had to remove a tab on it, but it wasn't a big deal.
    https://www.digikey.com/en/products/...3494-1/5437227

I can't find the part number of the connecter I used for the valve side, but I recall I just ordered the connector from the harness side (the part number was printed on it) and it was like 10 bucks from a dealer.

Thanks Dave! Your guided fishing trip was excellent!

Poked around on digikey and found what appears to be a 4 connector variant, which is what the C8 RS' employ.

Also went and looked and just as you said the part number for the valve side connector was on the part (4H0-973-704)

    Status update:
The DigiKey part I previously provided was incorrect. It arrived and was close, but in the end not correct. I ordered the following part (1-1564559-1) and it arrived today...perfect fit!

I also ordered high-temp RTV to seal each of the connectors.

Can someone who’s done this exhaust plug removal snap a pic of the area in question?

I’d like to get a sense of the process involved.

First pic is the valve actuator (smooth surface in bottom left corner is the top of the exhaust tip) - red circle is around the dummy plug that replaces the OEM cable connection.

Goes on actuator side - https://parts.audiusa.com/p/53714617/4H0973704.html

Second pic is the OEM cable (with red arrow) and I've circled where I tied it up out of the way.

Do you need to rev the engine or anything prior to putting the dummy connector on so it’s open ?

Yes, this solution will throw a soft code (no check engine light).

I drive in Dynamic and when the car is turned off the valves are open, but to be sure you can physically check if they're open before you disconnect the OEM connections.

I've confirmed with JB4 that unplugging the exhaust valves results in a reduction of boost pressure. The ECU is removing about 5 psi from boost pressure with the valves unplugged.

When logging with the valves unplugged it resulted in about 13 psi and with them plugged in resulted in 18 psi.

    This is on a 2021 RS7.

I think this is the fix you’ll want if unplugging the valve controller.

I don’t personally have experience with this product but do have experience with APR. They’re very reputable and I highly doubt they’d release a product to reduce performance in any way.

I suggest calling them and talking to their tech support to Q&A any concerns.
