PSA: check the underside of your RS6

Took my RS6 for its first oil change. The technician at the shop I used noticed that there was oil residue all over the bottom of the car. He suggested I take it to Audi to be safe.

Turns out that my rear diff is missing a seal, hence the fluid all over the rear diff itself. Apparently this is a known issue from the factory. No ETA from the dealer on when the seal will arrive.

They also found my transmission leaking oil. The Audi tech found a transmission bolt that was too long, and had punctured the actual transmission, and oil was leaking through the bolt hole. Whole unit needs to be replaced. Car has been at the dealer for 3 weeks waiting for the replacement to be done.

Both of these were issues from the factory. Worth taking the 30 seconds to take a peek and see if you have the same problem.

Wow, that is just wow - double trouble. Did you notice any driveway or garage floor drips?

No, both leaks were minor. There was residue on the resonators, and on the rear diff and trans. Nothing pooling or dripping under the car and no noticeable effects while driving.

Also, how many miles on your RS6? How long have you had it? It would be good to know how quickly this surfaced after the car went into service.

Had my 10k service and they found the rear differential to be leaking. I noticed something on my garage floor a month ago. Cleaned and never saw again so I didn’t think much. Either way they said 1-3 months for the part. Waiting for confirmation they have it to schedule the service.

It’s done 8500 miles. I’d had it 12 months at time of service. I’m assuming it had been like that since it came from the factory.

I find this a bit shocking. ZF is responsible for the transmission and I assume there’s another subcontractor for the diff.

I guess there is a recall/TSB. I wish there was a TSB thread to keep track.

Part came in and they replaced mine at around 9500miles. It was missing a seal. There is a TSB on it I believe. Of note. Not alignment issue but an actual seal on the differential.
