    My broken MMI

I took delivery of my RS6 in January and have logged 12,000 km dragging my kids all over town. Great family car!

However, my MMI has not worked properly since day one. My phone constantly disconnects and reconnects. I can’t make calls as the audio comes in and out and the person I’m calling only gets half of what I say. Music streaming cuts in and out either wired or wireless. The MMI then goes black, phone disconnects, then after 15 seconds reconnects.

The dealer has tested it and they have recently replaced a “module”. It made no improvement. Now my MMI is permanently stuck in a Loading screen so there are no icons, radio, phone or anything else.

I’ve also had to have the trunk latch replaced which was jammed shut for a month.

The MMI at this point has become a dealbreaker but I’m not sure I can even sell the car with a faulty mmi. My only option may be to trade it in for a replacement Audi. The dealer here gets one RS6 allotment a year, so I have the only one and could mayyyybbeee trade it in for their 2022 allotment (go from mythos to daytona). But would I get the right trade in price? I’m not sure.

My dealer is actually very good and the service is good. They are as concerned as I am (almost). I don’t think that Audi Canada has any idea how to fix my vehicle. They want to blame my phone, but it works fine in my F150, Honda Odyssey and my father’s 2018 S4. It worked fine in my Golf R that I traded.

So all enjoyment of this car is being killed by driving everywhere in silence.

    What should I do?

Have you tried holding down the volume button down to reset it? I’ve had mine get stuck loading twice…

No, I didn’t know that was a function, I will try it. Thanks!

Does Canada have lemon laws that will require them to buy it back? Have one of the dealer people pair their phone with the system and see if it solves the issue. That should be easy to rule out.

The volume knob needs to be pushed and held for 10seconds. You'll know it's resetting when both the top and bottom screens go dark. Once both screens go dark, the system might start or you will need to press the volume knob again to restart. Sometimes mine restarts on its own. I have to reset mine once every couple of weeks.

Perhaps a software update caused the issue and another update will fix the issue?

You can try deleting the phone and re-adding it back to Bluetooth to see if that helps!

What kind of phone do you have? Does a family member have a phone they can test with?

Thanks all. It’s an iPhone XR. The fact it works without fail in several other vehicles makes me believe it’s not my phone. The phone is all up to date on software. I am on the verge of replacing it with an iPhone13 and this issue is going to make me do that more quickly. I haven’t driven around with the wife’s phone though.
The volume knob trick worked for the current issue, thanks!

Ive noticed more bluetooth connectivity and random audio pause during music streaming issues lately but that could just be from the train wreck that is Android 12. I tend to not waste my time testing multiple devices as usually turning bluetooth off on my phone and re-enabling to force a reconnect resolves issues.

My problem is much more pronounced. Phone connects at startup, audio will play. Within first two minutes it will start to cut in and out. Shortly after the entire MMI goes black, and the phone disconnects. MMI restarts and phone reconnects. Rinse, repeat.
I use only SiriusXM at this point and don’t answer my phone.

Hmmmm I have a IPhone XR and my phone disconnects on a semi regular basis. My phone will also connect but the MMI screen will be blank. Super frustrating. And my trunk latch doesn't work first time after car has been sitting.

May be an issue on Apple's end: https://9to5mac.com/2021/11/30/in-ca...one-13-ios-15/

There are a few reports from drivers of Audi and Volvo cars, but those complaints don’t appear to be as widespread as the issues facing Toyota drivers.

I appreciate that article. It may ultimately be an issue on Apple’s end. But my problem predates the rollout of iOS15

Yep, sorry, was meant for some other folks that mentioned disconnect issues.

Any word from dealer/Audi on how they'll fix this? Such a tedious issue, definitely not even close to normal. Had my RS6 since February and never experienced anything like that on iOS 14.x or 15.x. It's been very reliable. I only had to restart MMI once and I don't think it was anything to do with my phone if I recall (I think the MMI screen just froze).

Why hasn’t Audi bought this back? Friend with a similar MB resolved that way.

It would be interesting to see if you know someone with an iPhone 12 or 13 to see if it does the same thing. XR is 4 generations old. My 13 pro works like a charm, which typically have better components versus the standard and mini models.

My iPhone 12 always disconnects. It’s super annoying. My MMI screen has also gone black a few times. This sounds more like some issue with the cars, not our phones. Just like the OP, my phone works flawlessly in my m3, Subaru Outback and the wifeys car.

I am having same problem with 2021 Q8. The volume knob fix seems to work. Not sure yet if it is permanent. Found this video on Google in case it helps anyone: https://danavento.com/audi-mmi-force...-step-to-reset

The volume knob fix worked for me this AM on my ‘19 RS6. Admittedly a bit nerve wracking when things go dark and it seems to take longer than it should to come back up but all is well. Wanted to post this to bump this thread back up, and thank you to the OP and danavento!

Got in my car (2022 RS6, 1100 mi) today and MMI is black and there is a warning "SOS Unavailable" on the instrument cluster screen. I tried this "reboot" by holding down the volume knob, but nothing. Still black screens.

Mine has worked for 15 months without too much fuss other than some random ApplePlay drops, but after both screens went suddenly black last week, the top display perpetually displays 'Loading the system. Please wait...' - no resetting gets its out of this state. At least the reversing camera views appears, other than that useless.

Let's add this to the weeks of ownership that this car has already been in the shop...

Someone on here suggested toggling my iPhone WiFi on and off when I get the black screen and that solved the problem!
