New RS6 owner. Please point me in the direction of the best tune/tuner and exhaust op

There are several options available for tuning, which can be categorized into 2 categories.

    Software Flashing
-Overwrites the factory software file, with completely new parameters, designed to increase the performance of the powertrain. Things like soft rev limiter delete, V-Max delete, increased output, transmission optimizations. One thing to note with these, is that they leave a permanent trace on your vehicle that will cause a TD1 warranty flag, when online coding is done (either via SVM or in the background of ODIS). Anytime your vehicle goes in for warranty work, a scan is preformed.

    Piggyback (Supplemental Engine Control Module)
Plugs into several core areas of the engine, (MAP, boost, fuel rail, Etc) in addition to the ECU, to simply put, disguise the engine that it’s not making enough power, and have it make more than it thinks it is. One of the benefits of this is that it can be removed without any trace, and can always be sold down the line if the manufacturer allows cross compatibility. MTM, ABT are the two leaders in the C8 market currently who have options available. I have sold several of the ABT units, clients have been extremely happy with the added performance & versatility of removing it.

Thank you for the reply. I’m very familiar with tuning, I want to know which options are the best for this car. Hoping to learn from other people’s experiences.

Running the JB4 piggyback. Currently it offers way more options than ECU flashing on this platform without any downsides from what I can see.
Support from Burgermotorsports has been on point and quick.

5+ switchable maps, depending on fuel, and logging all from the phone.
That's a huge advantage over the ecu tunes right now.

I had the JB4 on my RS5 and liked it well enough. I only have 91 available around me, so I’d likely be stuck on one tune anyway.

After spending some time researching this afternoon, it seems the APR tune gets a lot of HP for $999.

    Decisions, decisions. :)

    No E85 stations?
The JB4 allows you to mix E85 and 93 here to run a fairly spicy tune with pump gas.

No matter what tune you go with, the 91 octane is going to be the limiting factor for most tunes, unless you can push that octane higher somehow.

Nope. Closest is 25 minute drive.

After reviewing, I think I’m going with the APR Plus tune. This is the exact same as their 91 octane tune and matches the factory warranty.

That’s the way I’m leaning as well. How many miles on your car now?

Can you explain the differences you feel in the tune compared to stock? How is throttle response, shifting, acceleration, etc?

APR tune has been flawless on my car. So far best of 10.72@130 on the 1/4 Mile vs 11.6 stock

Any tune puts this car on another level. As stated above, it's not unusual to see 8-10mph trap gains with a tune, which is significant.
Daily driving around town it's unnoticeable.

Unitronic stage 1+ has been amazing, two weeks in. Car is at 7k miles. Instant throttle response and improved acceleration past 75-80mph. Very noticeable at highway speeds as it feels like there is endless power available to you. Haven’t pushed it yet and don’t really plan to but the car is better in every way from a power and acceleration standpoint. The shifts also seem more snappy.

Power is great yet feels still very much in control. The response around 4k is just awesome. Another nice thing is i used to not really like how the trans operated in sport auto, so I was always in sport manual. Now with the added power or whatever else is in the tune, I'm enjoying sport auto WAY more than before.

I've been looking at the JB4 as well, glad to hear you like it. Do you have any other performance mods or just the JB4? My car is stock and I don't plan on any other modifications. Just looking for a little more boost.

I will likely get an intake when they become available from other vendors but other than that right now I am stock powertrain.

IMO, it was money well spent first.

What kind of performance gains are you guys getting from the JB4? Horsepower and butt dynos. I ended up chickening out of the APR tune.

I ran a JB4 on my BMW X5M and have nothing but great things to say about them (the product and the company).

I am going APR on this car for warranty reasons though.

I did APR+ on mine and it’s real nice. You can upgrade to stage 1 for free whenever you want.
