    Installing Park Assist Button

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi,

I just received the multi switch to add the park assist button. My dealer wants $800 just to install the button and I’m hoping to do it myself. Has anyone done it in their rs6?

    Thanks!

I’ve installed park assist on my B9 allroad, but it involved more than just the switch.

Yes! I have done it, about the same amount of work as the euro cup holder retrofit. Center console has to come out but it’s plug and play connector/wiring wise. It does require coding but the button itself will enable maneuver assist capability (if coded) in addition to the as park pilot features.

Was the dealer going to do the coding too…or were you getting Sam (the matrix lighting guy) to do it? Thanks.

I have had the dealer installed euro cup holders and center console trims + park assist button + start stop button. The dealer charged about $700 total. I felt like this more expensive than it needs to be. I was thinking $300 - $400.

Oemvwshop as well as Kufatec iirc sell this button assembly. Park pilot is “assisted parking” using the cars cameras to both identify and help the car park in various parking spot positions. This button also enables maneuver assist (obstacle avoidance) in tight quarters (ie a parking garage) if the coding for that is done it prevents the driver from hitting stuff (the car activates the steering and brakes to aggressively prevent collision, similar to pre sense it can be quit jarring to experience… tldr this one is a mixed bag, be prepared to be surprised when and if the car actually takes over in one of these situations).

Reach out to sam he can speak with you about cost. Not really my place to comment there. Sam’s contact info is in the matrix headlight thread.

Looks like Kufatec also sells the coding dongles specific to these buttons (auto hold and park pilot). Is there any reason these would not work for the coding on North American cars?

No offense to Sam, he’s been great, but owning the code on a dongle from manufacturer seems a bit safer/future proof. But maybe I’m missing something?

Have used both sam (park pilot and maneuver assist) as well as kufatec (auto hold) both work in NA cars. GL with install!

Got it, thank you. However, is the OEM part number 4N0959673J for the replacement button set? I plan to have this installed and then have Sam do the coding the Park Assist and Maneuver Assist (and Matrix).

Not sure about OEM #. Easiest thing to do is order these two assemblies from Kufatec and use their coding dongles. I had dealer install these parts and coding for $600.

You can separately get Sam to do matrix, blue led and maneuver assist. None of those items require any hardware.

Awesome, thanks! By any chance does anyone have written installation instructions for the button? I’m going to try and do it myself. Feel free to PM me if that’s easier.

    Installing Park Assist Button

I’ve decided against installing the button myself, and I’m going to have my dealer install it. For you folks that have installed the button either yourself or via a dealer, can you kindly confirm that it is a simple plug-and-play replacement and no extra wiring or control modules are required?

Button assembly is plug and play. Replaces three button cluster assembly (middle blank is park assist button). Requires center console come out (same
Procedure as euro cup holder upgrade). If you’ve done that PP button is a breeze. If you haven’t it will take a few hours and some patience but it’s not as scary as it first seems. Make sure you have the tools (trim removal, torx, etc). GL!

While Park Pilot and Maneuver Assist are more popular, I’d venture to guess unless you’re frequenting parking garages or parking in very tight quarters you won’t use them much. At least for me it’s just hard to trust the car that much. Maneuver assist while helpful reacts like pre sense, slams the brakes, makes loud alert noises if activated (I tested using parking cones), suffice to say it works well but the experience is unsettling.

Auto Hold is a modification you’ll use daily if you commute, stop and go traffic, drive-through lines. Outside of CETE Air suspension module, one of my favorite upgrades. Very underrated. Regardless, getting rid of the button blanks is nice!

    Installing Park Assist Button

For you guys that have Park Assist (PA) and Maneuver Assist (MA) installed, have you ever come across a greyed-out A icon in the lower MMI after PA coding? If so, how did you fix it?!

    1. I had the oemvwshop button panel installed on my MY22 RS6 C8 Avant, and all the buttons are functioning fine.

    2. Sam did the coding for MA and it works without a hitch.

    3. However, when Sam tried coding PA, the A icon in the lower MMI is practically always greyed out. Pressing it throws a message “park assist plus currently unavailable”. Pressing the >>P button throws a message “Please activate the parking space search to start park assist plus”.

    4. Sporadically on engine start up the A icon is white but when pressed it greys out and displays the same message as above “park assist plus currently unavailable”.

    5. There is a non-active error in the system log - see below. Could this be the root cause of the greyed-out A icon?

    206e9dfa-434b-4e1b-bbf6-48cd24c7c14a.jpg

    6. Sam has been beyond helpful but this issue has thrown him (and I) for a loop, especially since he has successfully coded other MY22 C8 RS6s with PA.

    7. I have AL Priority laser jammer heads at the front and rear of the car but I’ve switched them off to ensure they’re not the root cause.

Any guidance would be much appreciated!

    Random thought…

Wonder what speed park assist is set to for deactivation in your car? I believe standard is 5km/h. Some people increase it so it stays on longer (max I believe is 20km/h). Point being I wonder if your car for some reason has this set to say 0km/h which would prevent it from ever being on. Or 1km/h which would mean the car shuts off park assist whenever you start driving. Worth taking a look?

    Central Electric (module 9)

Adaptation (search): switch off speed for park assist

Probably not the problem but outside of some funky wiring problem I don’t know why MA would work but not PA unless the car was shutting it off bc of a incorrectly programmed adaptation in the car’s software.

Anyway, interested to see what the resolution is here. GL with troubleshooting!

Thanks man, I appreciate your help. This is what I see for switch-off speed for park assist.

    image-2022-03-02-21:48:07-924.jpg

which tells me that the adaptation is probably not programmed correctly.

I’ll keep this thread updated on my findings…thanks again.

Have you tried entering a security code before you open/change the adaptation value? Try 20113

There is also retrofit packages that have a coding dongle to avoid the hassle of remote work. Recently added a package of the aluminum start/stop switch, park pilot assist and the auto hill-hold assist. Adds two assistance systems, gets all the buttons the same aluminum finish and gets rid of those dummy plugs on NA cars:

The park pilot assist retrofit is also available separately:

If anyone has any questions on these do let me know here or via email: [email protected]

Finally got to the bottom of this. Sounds like Audi NA has disabled Park Assist in NY and VT.

    https://www.e-tronforum.com/threads/...y-and-vt.3639/

I was out in CT and the Park Assist icon came on and the function worked perfectly. I returned home to NY and the Park Assist icon was greyed out. So Park Assist definitely has some sort of geofence.

I bought the kit from kufatec which came with a coding dongle that plugs into OBD port and auto codes, so yes coding required but part of package.

My car is a MY21. Came with seat belt illumination from factory.

Are the dealers refusing to do the coding? Or is it a dealer to dealer thing, where some will and some won't?

Did you ever get this worked out for NY, and if so, how? I am looking at a Park Assist install and wondering if I will run into the same situation with living in PA. It's wasted money for me if PA has this limitation.

Park assist is illegal in NY and VT. Audis use geo-fence tech to disable Park Assist while you’re traveling in these 2 states. You should be good in PA.
