So buying an SQ7 and had a CPO question

    Hey all,

I'm coming out of a 2017 Audi S6 Prestige in Daytona Gray and purchasing a 2021 Audi SQ7 Premium Plus. Had a couple of questions -

    - This SQ7 is listed as Certified Pre-Owned, and its also indicated on the CarFax. The dealer said while they did all of the pre-work to get it certified, there's another 3k to actually get it Certified Pre-Owned. Can someone explain this to me? I thought it its listed as CPO, it is CPO and there shouldn't be any additional costs tied to it.

Never was told anything like this. Sounds like they are trying to get a dealer fee without saying it's a dealer fee IMO. I have bought two CPO used vehicles from Audi dealerships, and not only did I not need to pay any additional CPO charge, but the warranty was included in the price. Only thing "extra" they offered was wheels and tires warranty (worth it with NY roads) and a pre-paid service plan

same here...sounds like they're trying to hit you with extra fees and just saying it has to do with the CPO

Would it just make sense for me to call a different dealership to confirm if it’s CPO’d? What’s the best way to verify

Yes, another dealer can verify. Just give them the VIN. Mind telling us what dealer is asking for the 3k.

I am sure another dealer can verify, but even if they can, not sure they are going to help you get around that $3k, especially since dealers have to work together more often than not if they are in the same area/state.

I'd try to find a similar CPO'd car in the tri-state area (if you can, to my understanding SQ7's aren't exactly common) and see their price and use that as a point to why you need to pay this three grand?

Sucks when they do this to people, you want the car, but with the current situation of the world, the rarity of the car (I think) and the current market, I am sure they think they can get that 3k, and if not from you, from someone else..

CPO is effectively an extended warrantee and with every extended warrantee comes a cost. Also, the car must qualify for certification (accident free, appropriate maintenance, etc.). What they are saying is that the car qualifies, but you have to pay additional for the cert. But, if they listed the car as CPO at a specific price, I would take a hard stand on paying that listed price (otherwise it's false advertising). When I bought my SQ7 I offered a thousand under listed price and they countered with certifying it at the listed price. I took that. At the end of the day, everything is negotiable.

Once I wrap up the transaction I'll list the dealership. It is out of state. When I challenged them, their stance was it already had all of the inspections to certify it as CPO, but it would cost $3k to do it...all while the website and CarFax listed it as CPO. I called a local dealership and while there 30 & 40k Audicare services left, but they did not see CPO. They said it would cost ~$300 for the CPO certification so I'll wait until I bring it in state. So the net/net is they tried to pad extra margin within the deal.

*with a tone* juuuust as I suspected. A shame dealerships tries to do this anymore with how global information is now-a-days. But, some people I guess have enough money to not care lol. Glad it worked out and your wallet wasn't taken advantage of. :)

Thanks! So I'm looking at the Repair Order Details and looks like they completed the CPO Vehicle Inspection. Anything stopping me from just taking this to my dealership and show them the CPO inspection was already completed? Feels like I'm missing a step here...

Your dealership may not want to CPO it with taking another dealerships work for granted.. you can try, I never have since this is obviously a unique situation. I'd get their feedback and see what they say. They may want to charge you a small fee to run an inspection over the car first.

Seems to me if the dealer is advertising it as CPO (which implies inspection and additional warranty coverage) it should be included. Otherwise it is misrepresentation and fraud.

Compare the price you are paying to other CPO and non-CPO cars to see if you are paying the correct market price.
