    Keyless retrofit

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
New Audi owner here and I was a little dumb and bought my A5 cab without keyless entry and start. I saw the page with retrofit instructions but I have a problem. Where is the BCM2 (comfort control, J393) module in the cabriolet? It seems like it is readily accessible in other models. I looked in the trunk/boot, maybe it's behind the other modules?

You may want to post the year of the vehicle.

Have you read any of these threads? A5oc is mostly european and they seem to do a lot of various retrofits https://www.google.com/search?q=audi...&bih=625&dpr=1

I've read just about all of them over the last two weeks, none of them have step by step instructions (except an occasional one that is also here in the A4 threads, which the instructions are not that clear) or pictures of the BCM actually in the car.

Authorization is the domain of the J393, BCM2 aka central convenience. J519, BCM, is not really involved. There is a low line and high line J393, advanced key is a feature that dictates the high line version with both 32-pin plugs installed. You'll have to retrofit the three antennas and the five touch sensors (three I guess if you're a 2-door) at least. Advanced key = keyless entry + keyless go. You might find more under the two different topic names.

OK so I can be reasonably assume that I have a BCM2 that is supported based on having an advanced key (not the flip one). The issue lies in I have read that there are two kinds of advanced key: one with comfort access and one without which would negate the assumption if I don't have comfort access. I just need to get a look at the j393 module to see for sure if it is compatible, but therein lies the problem...not quite sure where it is exactly.

E408 start/stop button, you'll need a new center console cover that has the hole for it
1 - 0.35 mm˛ brown, to ground point on center tunnel
    2 - 0.35 mm˛ black/gray, splice to existing black/gray on J519 T32b/1 (basically, interior lighting dimming circuit)
    3 - 0.35 mm˛ blue/yellow, to J393 T32e/1
    4 - 0.35 mm˛ blue/white, to J393 T32e/3

R137 keyless aerial, in trunk area
    1 - 0.35 mm˛ black, to J393 T32e/14
    2 - 0.35 mm˛ gray, to J393 T32e/13

R138 keyless aerial, under center console
    1 - 0.35 mm˛ white, to J393 T32e/16
    2 - 0.35 mm˛ yellow, to J393 T32e/15

R200 keyless aerial, this is in the left door, so you have to run it through the 27-pin plug at the body/door junction
    1 - 0.35 mm˛ blue, to T27a/1 to 0.35 mm˛ blue to J393 T32e/12
    2 - 0.35 mm˛ gray, to T27a/4 to 0.35 mm˛ green to J393 T32e/11

G605 left door handle contact sensor
1 - 0.50 mm˛ brown, splice to door harness ground line that goes to T27a/23
    2 - 0.35 mm˛ green/yellow, to T27a/3 to 0.35 mm˛ green/gray to J393 T32e/32

G606 right door handle contact sensor
1 - 0.50 mm˛ brown, splice to door harness ground line that goes to T27c/23
    2 - 0.35 mm˛ green/yellow, to T27c/3 to 0.35 mm˛ green/red to J393 T32e/30

    start/stop button - 8K0 905 217 A for A5 or 8K0 905 217 C for S5 (C has red ring maybe?); pick whichever look you want

new center console insert supporting the start/stop button depending on if you have concert (8K0 864 261 E V10 for without Drive Select, 8K0 864 261 G V10 for with Drive Select) or MMI 3G+ (8T0 919 611 L WFX)

handle sensor, same for both sides, 4G8 927 753 B

this kind of lays out the aerials: https://audi.7zap.com/en/usa/audi+a5.../9/909-909000/
you'll need three aerials, part 10, and three plugs, part 14. Then bolt 11 for the door sensor, bolt 12 for the interior sensor, and nut 13 and cover 15 for the luggage sensor.

As for how to install it all, you should get the workshop manuals from erwin.audiusa.com, pay for a day and get all the PDFs for your VIN. Get them all because you'll never know when a task will have a subtask sending you to another document (such as to install the sensor in the Electrical Equipment document, it's going to send you to remove the interior trim as documented in the Body Interior document, etc).

As for what coding change is necessary in the J393, I don't know. I'm sure it's been documented. And you'll need to look and make sure the J393 in your car has the T32e installed instead of a blank spot.

I have no idea what "comfort access" is supposed to mean.
When looking at European discussion on keyless operations, they can actually get keyless-go (start/stop) separate from keyless entry (door handles). In the US, it all only comes together as Advanced Key.

The J393 is in the right rear of the cargo hold, behind the panel you can just pull out. https://youtu.be/2-1mvoVf20A
If you go to about 33 seconds, you'll see T32e is the lower right 32-pin, the one that's not next to the RF jack.

You're going to need VCDS, or OBDeleven with Pro subscription (unless OBDeleven has an app for enable keyless functions and then you'll need to use credits). If you have it, just do a scan and see what part number info comes up at address 46. Or I guess you can just look at it now that you know where it's at. I think all US models get the full function version of the J393 regardless.

Wow that's a heck of an install guide. Thank you and also thank you for the video. One more question, the orientation of the plug...which is pin 1 and how does it count? Does it go across or kind of up/down pattern? I don't usually make harnesses so that's the reason for the ignorance of pin location, I'm okay on electrical just haven't messed with a VW group car in almost 15 years.

Pin numbers are usually marked on the plug. Look for a 1 and 16 stamped on one row and then 17 and 32 on the other row. That lays out how the pins are counted on that plug.

    Also, if you don't have a 32-pin plug on the T32e socket, you'll need that, 1J0 972 977 D.
Looks like the harness plug for the door handle sensors is 4H0 973 702 A.
The harness plug for the aerials is either 4B0 971 832 or 8E0 972 623. The catalog pages contain conflicting info. They look the same, but the 4B0 one is a lot cheaper.
And the harness plug for the start/stop button is likely 8K0 973 754.

    Best that I can tell.

Thank you for all the information. The amount you have provided is really above and beyond.
