Tune Options for the C8 S6/S7?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Checking in from the C7 forum. I currently have a C7.5 A6 with the supercharged 3.0T, with a single pulley tune. I am starting to think about replacing it with an S6, and rather than going with another C7.5, getting a C8 so I feel like I actually have a different car. My only reservation is that with a C7.5 S6, I could throw a simple stage 1 tune at it and have a ton of power, but looking at the options for the C8's all I was able to find was APR which does not seem to have very impressive gains. Anyone aware of other tuning options for the 2.9TT, or is this platform still too new?

Not a lot of upgrades available for the S6 C8 yet. I got my 2021 S6 about two weeks ago (love it), and still looking around. My ecu version is too new so APR doesn't have stage 1 for it yet. Had to get my ecu files sent off for them to make one, eta is 8 weeks. Ordered carbon fiber cold air, whenever that delivers. The platform is just too new atm.

Currently, there aren’t too many options out there for the c8 S6 but with the chip shortage, I think that would be the least of the worries if I was in your position.
I say that because the current wait for an S6 is at least six months out and that is if your dealership has an allocation slot for the vehicle. I’ve seen some waited months before their dealership were able to even submit the build order. Once Audi accepts your order then that’s when the clock starts ticking on the wait.
And of course you have the alternative to buy preowned and even that, the inventory will be very limited.

Agreed about the wait period, as mentioned in another post I just got mine and it was ordered back last December! Tuning-wise there's APR and JB4.. I'm coming from a '19 SQ5 so my JB4 will transfer right over. That particular JB4 covers the S4/S5/SQ5/RS4/RS5 and now S6.

Edit: I also have the APR carbon fiber intake on order the day I got the car, heard the turnaround is like 12 weeks on those!

Car seems like it should be good with just a simple piggyback or tune slapped on it, I did 12.4 at 112 bone stock numerous times here in FL (mid 60's weather) according to my Dragy... Based on the results with the RS4/RS5 with JB4 over stock, I'm guessing maybe mid to high 11's... Fingers crossed! Will let you know shortly once I slap the JB4 on it!

Edit: Also, the gains seem pretty OK for the APR tune, 100ish TQ to the wheels with just a flash? It's not going to ever be the insane level as the 4.0TT unfortunately, we all knew this getting into this car..

Yeah just seems that some of the tunes for the 3.0t in the B9 S4 are getting pretty close to the numbers for the 2.9tt is all. Obviously I get that Dyno data has tons of variables, and you need to look at area under the curve, etc. but purely looking at advertised numbers I just expected the 2.9tt to be more impressive with a tune.

Kind of agree. I mean ~450whp and 525wtq isn’t bad for just a tune on stock everything else on 93 octane. I think if anyone ever offers the upgraded turbo option for the S6/7 like they have available for the RS5, that would make it damn near 600whp as MTM has gotten on theirs. I think the limiting factor is the single scroll twin turbos on the 2.9TT vs the 3.0T having a single larger twin scroll design from what I recall but I could be wrong. All I know is if the turbo upgrade was an option I would 100% buy it today. If I’m going to potentially void parts of my warranty with a tune, may as well go all in doing it.

I'm just really disappointed at the amount of love the C8 S6/S7 gets... I realized this right before purchasing the car too and still pulled the trigger.. I love this car and I think down the road if there are a few aftermarket downpipe options I'll be even more happier. For now I think I'll be relatively satisfied with the APR intake and Jb4. I'll give you guys the full update once they're in.

I agree with that, if you look at the posted increase on the new Sq7 for the Apr tune it's like double this car! Would have been nice to get the 4.0tt again!

Yeah I noticed that following the tunes for the regular 3.0t v6 that comes in the s4/s5 and also the A6. It seems that the 2.9t is right out of the rs5 and from what I’ve seen they have trouble making bigger gains when trying to tune them, the main culprit is heat and the water to air intercooler system is super hard to keep down the temps. If c8 A6 ecu is tunable it’s almost the better bang for the bucks since the s4/s5 cars make 90hp over stock with EPL or Unitrinic tunes.

I’d go for the A6 if tuning is your thing, that is unless you want the s6 badge and nicer interior.

Tune Options for the C8 S6/S7?

The heat that the 2.9 produces while tuned is much geeater and consistent numbers are hard to get. There’s literally one water to air intercooler upgrade option and the pump must be done as well and that’s from ABT. While the s4/s5 has air to air there’s a million options for intercooler stop and much simpler design.

I’ve seen way more b9 s4 cars in the low 11’s and high 10’s 1/4 mile then I have RS5’s.

I’m really surprised more companies haven’t come out with one. I’ve seen only two. ABT and some random company I don’t remember the name. If you want really good tuning support and basically a bargain the b9 s4 or s5 is the way to go. Unless you really care about the RS badge.

Just a heads up, finally got the JB4 installed with a helping hand. Map3 seems to send it into drivetrain malfunction when boost builds, but Map2 seems pretty reliable. Dragy results before the Jb4 I was getting 0-60 in 4.4 consistently, I'm now getting 0-60 in 3.9 with similar weather (have not done any 1/4 mile runs just yet):

Thank you for sharing that information!
Were you able to get to the TMAP sensor from up top?

I actually chickened out on it, after having done JB4 installs on a 335i, M3, TTS, and my SQ5, this was by far the most difficult. I had a tech at the Audi dealership do it for me, he was actually able to run it through the firewall too. The ECU has to be pulled away to get access to the Tmap sensor.

I have the APR tune on my S6 and I really like it. Not too aggressive but gives a very nice boost in power.

How is the exhaust valve behavior? On my B9 S5, I had the 034 motorsport ECU and TCU tunes, which I really liked (obviously they dont have one for the C8 S6/7). One thing I really liked was the exhaust valves being always open in dynamic and always closed in comfort, which i understand is now how the C8 APR tune works?

Also do you find anything lacking without them having a separate TCU tune? I noticed the driveability of my S5 was much better with the TCU tune vs without and seemingly more predictable transmission and shifting behavior.

Is there any kind of customization possible with options within the tune, or is it just a set file and go?

Curious what kind of 0-60 gains the APR tunes have for C8s S6/7 since I can’t seem to find any hard info on it, either on forums or youtube.
