OEM Airbag a plug and play for a flat bottom steering wheel with rounded airbag?

    Hi all,

I'm thinking of swapping to a flat bottom steering wheel.

I've seen some pulled from S5's and Q5s, and they all have the round airbag with the right looking trim to be able to swap my trim and airbag over.

Has anyone transferred over their buttons and pieces into a flat bottom steering wheel from a different model line within the same year range and have it plug and play, or are the dimensions different?

Flat bottom wheels generally require a specific airbag for that wheel, especially if that wheel is OEM. Now if you find an aftermarket wheel oh, I could be different and it could take a normal round airbag. Post up the pic of your OEM wheel and the flat wheel you are trying to buy

The actual black trim piece is different, but from what I can tell all of the buttons and the airbag seem like they should be a straight swap no?

Air bags are definitely different shape and the way the air bag attaches to your wheel is different too. Look at the blue circle, the wrong airbags won't even attach

Ah, got it. Now it makes much more sense.

So then it looks like even if I found a flat bottom A/S7 wheel, the round one also probably won't fit.

Leave it to ze germans to make something so simple so complicated.

Does anyone have the airbag part number for the flat bottom steering wheels?

The one that I found on the audi site doesn't have those little C shaped clips on the back even though it says it fits the sport steering wheels:

That's because to be a Sport Steering Wheel it only has to be 3-spoke. The bag from a round Sport Wheel will never fit a FB Sport wheel, which was explained by Mintytoo. There are several bags that will physically fit the wheel, it's the connector you need to be concerned about. Good hunting. BTW, a few of the pics you posted don't look like OE/OEM Audi wheels, they look as though they were covered with some kind of kit?
