    Costco tire rotation pattern

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I took my A6 for tire rotation to Costco, I even got the tires from them, so, I took for rotation since it is free, and they fill Nitrogen...
They did a straight rotation as shown here, https://www.bing.com/images/search?v...t=0&ajaxserp=0 though I told them this is all wheel drive. Is this still fine or should I take it another place to get the rotation done again?

That rotation pattern is correct. You're good.

The correct answer is... it depends on the tires.

If you have directional tires, then the straight rotation is correct.

If you do not have directional tires, then the RF would go to RR. LF would go to LR. LR would go to RF. RR would go to LF.

An expert to ask. I understand that if directional tires remain mounted on the wheels, then the only option is straight rotation. Is there ever a circumstance where directional tires should be dismounted from the wheels and remounted on the other side?

In my opinion, no. I've seen a lot of different vehicles in my time, with correct alignment specs, good rotation habits, and STILL get some weird wear habits.

When it pertains to non-directional tires, the rotation pattern I listed above allows each tire to hit all 4 corners over the coarse of its life on the road. Keep that pattern, and rotate/rebalance every 5k miles, you are bound to get the maximum mileage life out of the tires. For those that have mixed sizes front-rear, and they choose directional tires, they are in the worst situation (besides those that go with RFT tires).

For us, we have to eliminate all possibilities of liability on our part, and we don't get much wiggle room. If your vehicle calls for a specific speed/load rated tire, we have to meet or exceed that. If you choose to go up/down in tire size, there is only certain percentage we are allowed to work with, above/below the OEM recommended size. ANY signs of mechanical failure on the vehicles condition, or lack of proper rotation intervals, voids any and all manufacture warranties.

THATS the hardest thing for alot of people to get over.

It's definitely hard turning people away, and personally I have no issue with it, based on what they person is asking for. Just yesterday... dude rolls in with a 2019 M4... first question out of his mouth... "What's the cheapest tire you have?"

My response, "You may need to go to Discount Tire if you want cheap..."

At the end of the day, we carry Michelin, Bridgestone, and BFG. If you want a set of four for your M4 for under $500... best look elsewhere.

If the tires were purchased from Costco, it's free.

Each region can differ in pricing of non-Costco purchased tired. On West coast, we are $24.99

With non directional tires I have been crossing to the rears since the 1980s and never had problems

Backs come up to front on same side. Front left to back right, front right to back left.

For the Audi I rotate every oil change so every 10,000 miles and I got 63,000 from the first set of Continental Control Contact tires. Last car was a Chevy and I rotated at oil changes so I was rotating about every 7 - 8000 miles. I got 80,000 miles out of the first set of Michelins and then another 80,000 miles out of the 2nd set of Michelins.

In Googling how to rotate for an Audi I came up with this reference:
    https://www.audipeabody.com/how-to-r...peabody-ma.htm

They recommend to cross to the back for non-directional tires.

Thanks for the information. For safety, you folk also recommend re-torquing the lug nuts after driving a bit (and you also do that for free for tires purchased from you). Your comment above raises another question for me. If someone wanted to do a "plus 1" increase in wheel diameter from the OEM size (for example, going from 255/35-20 to 255/30-21) would Costco do that? How about the use of spacers?

We cannot work on any vehicle, that comes in with spacers.

On the computer at work, we key in what your car wants, and what your plus size is. It tells us if it's good to go, or out of our range.

I'm off for a week, otherwise I'd check for you. But, I'd imagine if you call or stop by the desk... someone can look it up for you.
