    Good Battery Registration Tool

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
What is a good Audi 2015 battery registration tool. I've been thinking about buying the foxwell nt-510 but not exactly sure it will register a battery. I've also seen the obdeleven but some reviews show it is kind of hokey.
Something cheap that will do that and the seat belt chime, etc would be nice

OBDeleven will be a much more useful tool while owning an Audi than any Foxwell junk. The real tool for owners is VCDS, but you mention "something cheap". Plus OBDeleven will run on your phone, and Foxwell are self-contained. VCDS needs a Windows laptop. You could also consider Carista, but you might as well just get OBDeleven at that point. But you'll need to confirm with any of them, other than VCDS, that they can do the battery adaptation. VCDS of course can, OBDeleven can if you have the Pro license subscription, don't know personally if OBDeleven minus Pro or Carista can do it. Their web sites leave it as a grey area.

only problem with obdeleven is you have to keep paying for a license or credits. Having something to just do changes whenever quickly needed would be nice

Yeah, when they changed the Pro license (which puts it on par with VCDS regarding access to basic settings, adaptations, and long coding (though not sure how much of Long Coding Helper they've copied from VCDS so far); but OBDeleven is still no where close for data logging) from a purchase to an annual subscription, that really dinged its value against VCDS. But they still have the advantage of mobile device support, which is beneficial to a lot of people these days with the ubiquity of iOS/Android devices. And to have something just there which you can fire up on the phone and check a value, it's pretty simple (though still unsure if leaving the OBDeleven device in the OBD port is a battery drain with term 15 off; I'd rather it have a hard off that you have to wake by pushing a button on it than an always listening mode like home electronics (even when your TV is "off" it's still drawing power so it can "hear" the remote control)). Ross-Tech has a wireless solution (Wi-Fi rather than Bluetooth) to mobile devices, but it requires the expensive HEX-NET device, and VCDS Mobile is not quite as easy to use as OBDeleven.

If there's one thing about OBDeleven, is the apparent corruption of the installed control modules list in the CAN Gateway. I think OBDeleven sometimes asks "hey, the list looks bad, do you want me to clean it up?". Either OBDeleven messed up the list during some one touch (credits based) "app" and needs to fix it, or fixing it screws it up. One guy had modules for hybrid Q5 enabled in his list after using OBDeleven; had to remove those to eliminate the errors he was getting. I don't have OBDeleven personally, so I can't play with it to see why it gets messed up in this regard sometimes. Might also be an old issue now addressed.

Still, when it comes to a worthwhile private owner scan tool for VAG vehicles (VW, Audi, etc), there really is only VCDS and OBDeleven. And Carista kind of behind that; I ding Carista because their DTCs logs are pretty poor vs the other two. But for being cheap ($40 device and $10 for 30 days whenever you happen to need to use it) and performing operations, maybe worth checking if it can do the change tasks you need.

(on the credits part, you can apparently play advertisement videos in the app to earn 5 credits a day; those with it say it's not that intrusive. Still, ....)

$199 for a 3 vin VCDS and be done with it.

It can be expanded to 10 vins for like $150.

Otherwise buy the $299 10 vin VCDS, which can be expanded to unlimited for $150.

Just get a few locals to toss you $20 to add their vin to help offset the cost.

Just make sure that you get a REAL VCDS.

With the real VCDS you can register for their forums and online help. Many people on these forums can vouch for the level of help that has been provided by the Ross Tech team when diagnosing or troubleshooting a problem.

    https://store.ross-tech.com/shop/vchv2_ent/
Or if you like Europaparts, https://www.europaparts.com/brands/ross-tech.html (first one should be the HEX-V2 3VIN).
It's the exact same thing, just supporting your parts supplier. FCPEuro also sells them, but they list it as "out of stock no eta"? ECSTuning and ShopDAP are supporting OBDeleven instead.

You have to know what you're changing. OBDeleven tries to can simple mods into one button push actions, but I prefer to know exactly what's being changed and make a record of it in case something goes unexpected. So make sure you record the long coding of a module or the value of an adaptation channel before you change it. You might need to change it back to "whatever it was" for whatever reason one day.

But so for VCDS, you need to know what you're changing and go it it. There's tons of videos and such about the seat belt chime apparently, I picked the first hit. https://youtu.be/xaIf0lHphKY
But what you see, you'd never get there from the start screen if you didn't know what module you needed to modify and what value was to be changed (coding vs adaptation channel). VCDS is a powerful tool, it's not a butler. You can't complain to it "you knew what I meant". And things are not always as obvious as the text implies. So don't get cavalier about changing things because "shinies".

I vote for VCDS. People will hate on me but I bought the China knockoff for $30 and it does everything I need it to.
