Sunroof stuck in tilt position, won't close

Hello my sunroof is stuck in the tilt position and won't close. I've never had any issues with the sunroof prior to this. When I opened the sunroof it worked fine with no issues but when I tried to close it nothing happens and I can hear a clicking sound (2 clicks) and then nothing. I tried to close it from the key fob as well but that isn't working either. I checked Carista for error codes and it has a fault in the body/convenience system. The code is 01512 and says control module for sliding roof. Has anyone had this issue? Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

Did you try the key in the drivers door-hold for close? Had this happen on my old s4 but once it cleared it didn’t come back. There are a number of threads about it. Did you clear the code and try it?

There appears to be a manual procedure to close it, not sure about from the tilt position, but did you try the search in the forum?

I think that it needs to not tilted and open for the crank to close to work. I could be wrong?

Thanks for the replies. Yes I cleared the code and then tried it but it didn't work. I will try the key in the driver's door and see if that works. I tried searching the forum and Google but I couldn't find anything at all. Maybe I don't know how to use the search function. Thanks again for the help I'll definitely look into the suggestions.

Page 44 of the 2013 Owners Manual covers the operation of the tilting feature of the sunroof. Figure #37 of that page shows an illustration of the section of the headliner with the rotary knob for controlling the tilting and sliding functions of the sunroof. Here's the verbatim text:

    Tilting
Requirement: the roof switch must be in the 0 position > fig.37.
.. To tilt it, briefly press the switch > fig. 37.
.. To close it, briefly pull the switch > !.
.. To set an intermediate position, press/pull the switch until the roof reaches the desired position.

    Opening/sliding (Version 1)
.. To move the sunroof to the position for reduced wind noise, turn the switch to position 1 until resistance can be felt.
.. To open the sunroof completely, turn and hold the switch against the resistance in position 2.
.. To close the sunroof completely, turn the switch to position 0.
.. To select a setting in between, turn the switch to the desired position.

    Opening/ sliding (version 2)
.. To slide the roof all the way open, turn the switch to the 1 position.
.. To close the sun roof completely, turn the switch to 0 position.
.. To select a setting in between, turn the switch to the desired position .

The sunshade can be opened and closed manually in any position. When opening the sunroof, the sunshade is automatically opened.
After the ignition is switched off, you can still operate the sunroof for about 10 minutes. As soon as the driver's or passenger's door is opened, the switch is inoperative.

Page 43 of the 2013 Owners Manual addresses Convenience opening/closing, stating:
The windows and the power sunroof can be opened and closed with the mechanical key or the emergency key.
    Convenience opening feature:
.. Use the emergency key or pull the mechanical key out of the master key > page 34.
.. Insert the key into the lock of the driver's door.
..Turn the key to position A (>fig. 36) until all the windows have reached the desired position and the power sunroof is open.
    Convenience closing feature:
.. Use the emergency key or pull the mechanical key out of the master key > page 34.
.. Turn the key in the lock of the driver's door to the lock position B until the windows and the power sunroof are closed.

Page 45 of the manual addresses operation of the panorama sunroof (perhaps for Avants?). Following that section is this information, presumably covering all sunroof types (V1, V2, Panorama):
Emergency closing of the sunroof ...
If the sunroof detects an object in its path when it is closing, it will open again automatically. In this case, you can close the roof with the power emergency closing function.
    • Within five seconds after the sunroof opens automatically, pull the switch until the roof closes.

Apparently, that final step above represents the "power emergency closing function" as there are no other references to it that I could find. Not sure if this will be of any benefit in resolving your issue, unless perhaps your car is missing the owners manual. Keep us posted on what the resolution to your problem turns out to be! Good luck!

Late edit: Any chance that you had recently disconnected the battery on your car? Here's a thread on a VW problem with the same fault code 01512. See post 3 regarding what the OP had done to resolve the tilt problem. May not work for your car but probably worth considering.

Yes the issue was resolved. I let the car sit for a few days while I was out of town & when I tried the key in the driver's door handle it closed with no issue. Now I don't want to to use the sunroof again because I don't want any problems. Than you for your help!!! Greatly appreciated

Thanks for the update -- that's good news indeed! I rarely use our sunroof, and wish I would have had the option for "sunroof delete" when I ordered it. Hopefully you won't experience the issue again!

Sunroof should be cleaned every year and greased with special audi grease. Do this and you won't ever have a problem. Clean thoroughly all the tracks and then grease them and move open / close the sunroof. Use the other stuff to maintain the outside seal to prevent it from sticking to the frame.

Excellent point! I admit to not maintaining my sunroof as well as I should -- truth be told, I haven't done it in 10 years! That prompted me to find this article on how to lubricate an Audi sunroof: https://www.audiworld.com/how-tos/a/...chanism-423445

Using the OEM grease is a good idea, as WD40 and similar lubricants will not have the lasting durability and efficacy as the grease. ECS, FCP and others carry it at roughly the same price point: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...ase/g00045002/
