    Thule vector alpine

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi,

I just recently installed the Thule vector alpine box and wanted other owners’ opinions.

This is my first cargo box ever on any car so this might be a “normal thing,” but has anyone noticed a hissing noise inside the cabin after the cargo box install? It’s not major, but there’s definitely a noticeable difference in the sound level before and after the install.

The noise is present starting at 25 mph and slightly worsens as the speed increases.

    Any input would be appreciated.

Hey Jinoh5400, yeah that sound is normal. It’s the drag that the box and bars are creating. The vector has a nose that curves down so it’s much quieter than my Thule Motion Alpine. Make sure you retighten the knobs after a spirited drive and once every week or so. Beautiful setup!

One of a few vehicles that look sick with a cargo box, love it! Are you lowered with wheel spacers? Thanks

Thanks for confirming. The vehicle is so well insulated from the factory, it was very quiet inside the cabin before the box install.

Yup. Lowered an inch via factory scan tool and running spacers to make it flush before the new wheels arrive.

Looking good jinoh. Makes me consider getting one on mine for the season as well. Love you are rocking the hunting fishing plates. If you get a river quiver on top of the RS6 I'd love to see a picture of that! ;)

Thanks! I take my truck for fishing trips so the RS6 probably won’t see much river time lol.

The car was lowered through Audi Denver. I went this route to keep the factory warranty intact.

I went with CETE because all my local dealers refused to lower it with the factory tool.

I had the same roof box Thule Vector Alpine for a while. The added wind noise is normal. Even without the roof box, just the wing bars can make a noticeable difference. But as far as I know this roof box is the best in class for the noise and drag. I guess we will have to live with this if we are running a roof box.

What’s the cost range for these roof boxes? I definitely think it compliments the looks of the RS6 very well.

I think all said and done, it was a little over $2,000.

The cross bars are around $700 and the box is $1500.

You can get deals from REI on the box from time to time I heard.

Yeah the roof box is $1500. I bought the Thule wingbars kit from a UK retailer and the total cost is about $500. I think it looks better than the OEM wingbars.

Box itself is really easy to remove off the bars. Thule’s newest design of a dial to open and close clamps. It’s also Thules heaviest box.

Bars themselves are also pretty straightforward. Pop caps off and used allen key or supplied allen and loosen.

Serious question for those with a Thule or similar - what goes in them? Or what do you use it for?

Love the look but considering what I would put up there.

Most people aren’t riding around with these on empty all the time unless during ski season and they are making frequent trips to the slopes.

Mine gets used occasionally for excess luggage on longer trips. Otherwise it’s hanging in my garage.

I got mine from Rack Attack. I believe you can buy them directly from Thule but they are usually out of stock.

Have any of you noted the MPG drop with the box on vs off? I know on my B9 Allroad it was almost 15% loss on freeway/normal driving.

I didn’t do any before and after testing but I don’t think I’m seeing much of a decrease in mpg.

I think I may the only one in the group that is on the fence with the roof box with if I like the looks of it in the car and if I really need it. lol I use Thule alpine box we have on our Tahoe more than any other car. I feel if I got it for the RS6 I wouldn't use it.
