Silly Rabbit TCU - No Instructions

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just got my SRM tune module and cable for my '16 S6 DL501 but it came no papers, no directions, no installation instructions. How is their TCU tune installed? [UPDATE] I found the directions in and older e-mail from a few weeks ago but the password is invalid so I can't install anything. This freakin' sucks. I ordered it "overnight" and it took a month and now the password doesn't work. Are they legit?

They are legit. They are slow af to deliver. Just email them your problem. They have been decent on response time via email atleast. You have to download the srm flashing tool. Then sign in and you can choose from a number of tunes(different launch control settings) in the drop down menu.
Then you must do the adaptations with vcds.

Thanks, I have tried everything. The software updates itself correctly but the login is borked on their end and there's nothing I can do. And they are not responding. It's so frustrating especially after waiting a month (ordered "overnight" on 16-Sep , arrived 15-Oct) to get the part. It finally arrived in a used zip-lock back with no instructions. I found the instructions in an earlier email but their process does not work. The account is invalid. My name was spelled wrong in the credentials they sent so I am assuming it's just a typo on their part somewhere. But of course the password reset function doesn't work. it just says "contact the admin" like that's something I can do?!? So I am screwed. I am not hearing anything back from them. I would be certain this was a scam (pay $900, wait a month, get a 25c piece of plastic and a printer cable, enjoy) if they didn't have a reputation here. And if you read the instructions way at the bottom it says another product is needed to install this. I don't have a VCDS setup. Just a Foxwell scan tool. After reading the email directions, I couldn't install this thing if it actually did something.

    Yeah that sucks....
Well they aren't a scam. Slow af as I mentioned, but they are legit. The tune is better than the factory by far. They do have a Cable buy back program that you can take advantage of some discounts, but At this point I'd almost just rather have my money back for the intakes and the cable.
Yeah you need vcds for the adaptations. If it's not done, it will sound like the trans is slipping.
Hopefully you get everything figured out

If you're unhappy, dispute the credit card charge and get a refund. Other TCU options exist.

I'm not necessarily unhappy with the tcu tune. I am unhappy with them taking my money for a product and telling me 2-3 weeks lead time and it's been more than double that, and the order is still "waiting processing", meanwhile they keep posting stuff about their customers getting their products.
Ive had the tcu tune for a few months now.

I still have not heard anything from SRM on a password reset. 3 1/2 days with this expensive non-functional dongle.

SRM support got back to me this afternoon and fixed my login issue likety-split. I have not been able to install it yet because I am not setup to do the clutch adaptations. Yet. So I guess I have to breakdown and buy a Ross-Tech cable and figure out how to get VCDS installed on my laptop. Hopefully that’s it.

I got a Ross-Tech cable and got VCDS 21.9 connected easy enough. But the dumb SRM dongle won't connect. No matter which port I try. So I'm stuck again.

LOL - so many bad reviews when it comes to customer service from these guys.

Problem turns out they shipped me old software. Silly Rabbit sent a TCU dongle with the previous V3.4.2 software onboard. It needs to be the latest V3.4.4 software to connect. They e-mailed a H/W update link and it worked easily. They really should put that link in the directions. If they have no QC/QA going out the door then at least let people self-serve the updater first before waiting 3 days for an email response!

I was in the same boat, heard from Will @ SRM who is always very responsive. Same deal firmware on dongle was one version behind, updated it and was good to go. I agree the instructions sent via email could use some better troubleshooting steps when it comes to steps that don’t Line up right away, but overall pleased. I did also have to wait about 6 weeks to get a tcu cable mailed out to me (from the date I ordered) but it was out of SRMs control (supplier backed up and/or customers have no shipped back the tcu cable).

You don’t have to ship your cable back to SRM, but they offer to buy it back from the customer. Either way, the supply is not meeting the demand

I’m happy to send my cable to the next poor soul who gets stuck behind a month-long wait for their TCU upgrade. It sure seems worth it NOW but I hate waiting on mods. And I hate things that don’t work right out of the box. I now have 3x cords laying around. One cheap eBay blue VAG cable, the nice Ross-Tech one, and the stubby little Rabbit one. Overall I’d give them a positive+ rating. The noticeably tighter upshifts, better timed upshifts and downshifts, and the much more “connected” feel especially in manual mode where I feel like the shift knob is wired directly to the road. With just the DS1 Stage 1/93 I felt like the DSG was always one step behind. Now it feels like it’s always ready.

If I had known it was going to take this long to get a pair of intakes, I would have kept my cable and skipped the $300 store credit. Their buy back program is shit if the stuff you use it on takes months longer than it suppose to, to ship.

Unfortunately, I thought it was very well known their backorder timeframes noted on the website, and actual times to fulfill orders, was widely incorrect. Probably more so if you’re in the DS1 FB group.

Ultimately the price for doing business these days with smaller companies who make quality products and having to fight with supply chain issues, or not enough skilled labor.

Communication is key - customers wouldn’t be as unhappy if the timelines were more accurately communicated (IMO).

I went with RS7 inlets, so $200 instant credit for me.

Yeah... I'm not part if the FB group. It's just disheartening to order something with a " 2-3 week backorder" and to have to wait months to get. (Well months as of now, still haven't heard anything back from my email to them about them. ) I would have probably gone with RS7 inlets if I had known it would have taken this long for them to make them. Hell, I built a mk4 24v vr6 in this amount of time. Including making a long tube header and downpipe for it. I know how long it takes to fab stuff up.
A little communication on their end would be nice. Just saying

Just wanted to chime and say I had zero issues with my SRM TCU tune yesterday. Followed the instructions from their email and it upgraded my TCU with no issues.

I have a DS1 stage 2 S6. My trans is kind of clunky at part throttle, low speeds, and 1st-2nd gears. It was even before the tune but seems a bit worse now. Does the SRM TCU tune help the trans figure out what the heck it should be doing in that aspect? WOT has always been perfect. Wondering if it's a sign of some other trans issue.

I think it helps wake it up.

BTW here are my instructions just in case someone's is MIA. You still need a valid user name / password.

Please read these instructions in their entirety before attempting to flash the transmission or contacting support.

First, you will need to install this software and let it update to the latest version if necessary.

    https://adt-software-updates.s3.amaz...ler+Client.exe

Plug in the cable, start the SRT Flash Tool, and log in with the following credentials:

    User Name: [email protected]
    Password: example
(user name and password used as example only)

    Flashing Steps:

    1. Connect a battery charger to the vehicle. Open the hood and open the driver door. Do not close either the hood or driver door during the entire process.

    2. From the main menu, select "PROGRAM TRANSMISSION"

    3. Fill out your customer information and click "CONFIRM"

    4. Select the binary you would like to flash and click "CONFIRM". See notes below.

    5. Click "PROGRAM" and follow all on screen instructions. Before flashing, verify the battery has a full charge, and if there is any doubt, use a battery charger. Turn off all accessories such as headlights, air conditioning/heater/fan, etc... The transmission flash will take between 30 seconds and 5 minutes.

    6. Follow the on screen prompts until the flash is complete. Upon completion you should see a message that says "Controller successfully programmed"

    Additional Notes:

    1. Some software versions must be updated to a compatible version before the tune can be applied. In this case, You will only see one option, "Update to S####" Please select this and flash it first, and then close the software and restart the process to be able to flash the performance binaries. This is only performed the first time you flash.

    2. In the binary selection phase, you will select the desired Shift RPM in the first drop-down box, and the desired Launch RPM in the second drop down box.

    Suggested shift RPM:
    6600 is factory

6200 RPM or 6600 RPM shift points for stock turbos, Plus 4, or TS1
7000 RPM for Plus 4, TS1, or larger (requires custom ECU tuning to suit)
7400 RPM or 7800 RPM larger than Plus 4 or TS1 turbos only (requires custom ECU tuning to suit)

    Launch RPM selection:
Start low and keep increasing until desired wheel spin and launch speeds/times are achieved

    3. The following clutch adaptations must be performed after flashing using a VCDS cable or another suitable scan tool.
    Main Pressure Valve Calibration
    Clutch Valve Calibration
    Clutch Engagement Point Adaptation
    Distance Sensor Calibration

    4. It is possible your software version has not yet been covered. If during the process you receive the message "No program found for controller" Please reply to this email and we will add it for you.

Did you do the OBDelevel/VCDS calibrations afterwards?

I found these to be a bit of a pain to get to work with OBDeleven, but I got it after some persistence.

A couple days after my TCU flash and DSG adaptations (with a DS1 Stage 1/93) a lot of the clunkiness and slipping and indecision was all but gone. Now it is like magic. I am getting some extra crackles and bangs which I really like too. I just ordered a new set of Michelin‘s to help tame my new traction problems.

When I got mine they and sent me the wrong version of software. I had to do it manually update. They sent me this handy & simple Firmware updated tool …
