Question- stage 1 tuned: pedalbox needed, or redundant?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Very much new to all this stuff.

2018 prestige has the turbo lag compared to my last car. Pedalbox looks/sounds good as solution.

    The question:
For those stage 1 tuned, did you also still feel the need for a pedalbox?
Is it still a benefit, or completely redundant?

(I understand the answer to this may be burried on page 33 of a pedalbox thread somewhere.)

    Thanks for your replies here.

18 Prestige here too. 034 stage 1 tune significantly reduces the throttle lag or what I called a dead spot in the pedal. The throttle is much easier to control. I can’t imagine you’d need a pedal box after the tune.

    I’m assuming the same.

Anyone have tune + pedalbox, or did and removed, and can speak from experience?

I’d only see needing a pedal box if you went with a piggy-back tune like a JB4.

Full ECU tunes should be adjusting the pedal response mapping to correct out the pedal lag.

I've had a Stg 2 APR tune on a 2015 Allroad w/2.0 TFSI and an Ecutek tune on a 2017 Infiniti Q60 Red Sport w/VR30DDTT engine.

In both cases, I was tuned first and then added a Pedal Tuner because I still had some deadband in the pedal response.

The Pedalbox comes with a 30-day money back guarantee, so if you find it "superflurous", then you can return it.

    Bingo!
Great info I overlooked. Many thanks.

I wanted to provide some real-world data on the effect of the PedalBox on pedal command on my '21 SQ5 Sportback, so I used the VCDS, as it can measure Throttle Plate Position and Acceleration Pedal Position, via the Basic Settings screen in the Engine Module within VCDS.

For a simple comparison, I used my iPhone and recorded one accelerator pedal actuation cycle, from no pedal to just before kick-down to no pedal (pressure).

I pressed the pedal slowly for each separate PedalBox setting - Stock, City, Sport, and Sport+:

    Stock:

    City:

    Sport:

    Sport+:

From watching the throttle plate position with the Stock setting, a delay definitely exists when the accelerator pedal is initially moved off its initial setpoint. From there, City adds ~7.5%, Sport adds ~15%, and Sport+ adds ~30%. For this approximation, all I did was hold the accelerator at 30% at the stock setting, and changed the PedalBox setting while attempting to keep the pedal at the same position.

Note: Within each mode, the PedalBox provides a "+" and "-" setting to reduce/enhance the pedal gain in +/- 2% steps within the City, Sport, and Sport+ settings. I left these bias settings alone for the testing.

The City setting works great for stop and go and around town driving, as the setting name implies. The throttle lag is pretty much non-existent. For back road driving with on-and-off throttle transitions, the Sport setting works great. I could only see using the Sport+ setting at a dragstrip or for that occasional street race in Mexico.
