    RS3 Winter Tires on 19"

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello,

I would like some opinnions on what Winter tires to get for my RS3. I would fit them on my current oem Rotor rims as i have plan to get new rims for summer tires next season.

So basically i need tires with sizes as the current ones (255-30R19,235-30R19). Where i live we have rarely snow, so i need tires mostly for wet weather.

What brand should i look for?

    thanks for any recomendations :)

    regards, Alex

I think for winter the guys fit square size 18s with different wheels. It helps add more sidewall for the winter.

I don't think there will be many options in 255/30 for winter. You will be better off using 235/35 all around and just keep the wider wheels on the front.

I'm running 235/35/19s on all 4 corners of my stock staggered wheels. They are a tiny bit stretched on the wider front rims but it isn't really noticable. I don't get any traction control issues either. It works 100% fine. They are Pirrelli Sottozeros only because no other brands were in stock.

245/35/19 square will work very nicely on the stock staggered wheels, YouTube kumho wintercraft wp72, dude did that exact setup and was really happy.

You're pretty limited to winter tires, I fitted mine to the OEM wheels and have my set of summers on 19" neuspeeds. If I were to do it all over again I would have got 18" neuspeeds so I had move choices for winter tires, and would run those wheels all year. I bought my car a day before 2021 and all that was available nationwide were dunlop winter sport 3d and pirelli sotozeros. I ended up going with the dunlop because I figured the pirellis were junk after reading about everyones experience with the oem pirelli tires. The dunlops are ok but nowhere near as grippy as the nokians I had on my S4 which had 18" winters.

I live in Ottawa Canada, our winters here are rough, lots of snow and Ice.

I run the sottozero 19" all around and love them. With little snow I imagine you'll love them too

To maintain the reverse stagger I believe it is possible to go with 245/35 front and 225/40 rear. The 225/40 will fit on the rear with 8.0 inch by 19 inch wheels (I have done this). Remember the rear tires have a higher profile to match the wider lower profile front tires. Of course a square setup is suitable, but does not give the advantages of the reverse stagger.

It looks like Nokian and Vredestein offer these sizes in a Winter.

I have 4 RS3 black optics rear wheels and tires for sale. They are mint. You could run a winter setup on these and run a summer setup on your current wheels.

I have the same as that was my only choice when I purchased my car in January a few years back. I live and drive around Chicago and the SottoZero is just fine. If I were drive through 12” of snow routinely, I’d be in a different car (truck), but for street, they’re pretty good. They are particularly good at avoiding hydroplane on water and slush.

For reference, I’ve had probably a dozen set of winter tires over the past 30 years. They are all better than all seasons!!

Our OP from Slovenia stated he doesn't get much snow. Full on winters may not be the best choice from his RS. I live in central Ohio and get some snow, some ice and and quite happy with my Continental Extreme Contact DWS All Season tires. 235 square setup on black 19 inch OZ Racing Ultraleggera wheels. THAT part was stupid as I should have used the OEM wheels for the winter/wet set and the OZs for my summer only set. Contis work quite well and should be available in 245 19 inch for use on the OEM wheels. Good luck with your choice.

I use 245 35 19 DWS on OEM wheels for winter, not as good as dedicated snow tires in the snow, but for the number of snow days I actually see, it was the best tradeoff for me.

Not sure the rules in Slovenia, he may need winter tires. In Europe there is no real all season category, they're either summers or winters and a lot of places require proper winters.

I called the local Audi dealership and there were the Michelin Alpin, Pirelli Sotozero and even a Pzero option, as well as a Continental option. This is for stock 19" wheels.

After tons and tons of reading.. 3 years ago when I got my RS3. I went with the square set up (keeping the wider rims at the front). 235/35/19.
They drive great. And if you want a good tried and Dunlop Wintersport 3D

In most of the “mountain areas” in Europe you need winter tires or to have chains. That being said i think performance winters are better than chains on an rs3. Yikes

I just put 225/40/19 Blizzaks on all 4 corners. The tire looks a hair stretched on the 8.5 wheel but for winter duty they’ll be perfect. I wanted some more side wall and a narrower patch.

I still have the summer tires on my 2019 MY. Oklahoma is pretty unpredictable as far as weather but even if we don’t get snow I’m reading all season tires loose quite a bit of performance below 45oF. Winter on the OEM wheels might be the way to go and then install the summers on some new wheels

Correct, below 45F performance winters will outperform even the best all seasons in virtually every category. The OE spec Sottozero 3 in 235/35/19 is in stock at tire rack and discount tire direct. Throw those on the stock 19x8 and enjoy.

If you have the staggered set, 245/35/19 square work very well.

I have235/35/R19 on the rear and 255/30R19 on the front.
Are you saying to go with the 235 /35 R19 all around because they don’t come on 255/30? Is this what you call “square”? Same tire all around?

Unfortunately the WINTER SOTTOZERO 3 is on backorder on any of those sizes at discount tire. Wow they are pricey!

Yes square means same size on all four corners. For your stock staggered setup I would with 245/35/19 on all four corners. Kuhmo wintercraft wp72’ would work very nicely for $150/each, I ran those 2 years ago.
