AMTuned or JHM engine rebuild??? + performance upgrades

Any recommendations or experience with engine rebuilds from these 2 shops? AMTuned or JHM

Getting ready to drop some coin and want to rebuild my tired 4.2 the whole works. Car is a B7 S4 Avant 6MT and has 146,xxx miles and want to drive it for another 100k with no problems. Car is great inside and out. Chains have not been done tho. Pops blue smoke on decel and downshift. I'm looking for a fresh engine rebuild.

Going back and forth between buying something new (or used) but theres just not anything out there like our cars. Finding a B7 S4 Avant 6MT in decent condition with low miles is near impossible. Figured before everything goes electric, might as well invest in what I currently have and spend many many more years to come driving my dream car. Might as well spend some cash and install a supercharger and all the goodies while the engine is out.

I am not familiar with AMTuned, but our timing chain kits have been done with hundreds of times with great success.

While the engine is out, it is definitely the best opportunity to do a lot of additional maintenance or upgrades. For example, perfect time to do our headers.

Good time to change to a taller sixth gear if mileage and engine longevity are important.

I recently got a fully rebuilt stage 0 from AMTuned. While i have less than 1k miles on the motor it has been flawless so far (knock on wood). Guys over there are super knowledgeable on the B6/B7 platform and specially the 4.2.

I actually purchased the lightweight clutch and flywheel kit for jhm and highly recommend that product fromJHM since you will have the engine out anyways

I would certainly use AMtuned again and not even look for another option. The owner(i belive) is actually quite active on here if you search up his B6 S4 single turbo build.

I would not hesitate to use Alex at AMTuned for your rebuild. He's been rebuilding engines for awhile now; long before he decided to venture out on his own. Been a great resource on engine parts and figured out some new things for our motors.

AMTuned is definitely the place to get your engine rebuilt. If you plan on going supercharger, spend the money on their stage1 kit which is new rings and beefed up rods. As far as a supercharger you definitely want to run with an Eaton supercharger kit from VF Engineering or a new kit that is coming out from Tweetler Performance.
