Factory parking sensor retrofit wiring HELP

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi!

First of all, sorry for also posting here, as the car in mention is a standard A4, but people with S4/RS4 versions might be able to help me more.

I've got a 2001 B5 A4 Avant under my hands, that I need to retrofit a factory rear parking sensor into.

I have the sensors, the "parking module", the speaker and all the wiring. They are already in place, but I couldn't find info anywhere about the wiring.
There are six wires at the end of the loom coming from the module, for reverse signal, k-line, speed sensor, etc. The ground for the whole thing is a separate wire that doesn't count towards the 6 I mentioned.
I have no idea which cable is which on the module as the colors of the cables do not match up with the colors on the car.
It is my understanding that this is an exceedingly rare equipment for these cars, mostly (maybe only) found on the S4 and RS4 models.
Have any of you did this retrofit already, or has this factory system installed in your car?

    Thanks!

I don’t think the rear parking sensor was ever offered on a B5 in North America. My 2001.5 S4 has all factory options (except the phone and auto trans), and there’s no parking sensor. I’m the original owner, special ordered the car and took delivery brand new. Parking sensor wasn’t listed as something that could be specified when I ordered the car.

I have the Bentley service manual on CD-ROM which includes the wiring diagrams, and there’s no mention of parking sensors.

Maybe some European market B5s have this. If someone has the factory wiring diagram for this feature, that would tell you all you need to know.

I’m curious, though, what sensors and module are you using? How did you find the info and the parts?

Some markets had rear PDC on the S4 avant as standard. The RS4 did not have this as standard or an option worldwide.

The B5 sedan/saloon had rear PDC as an option on some model in some markets only, not sure about US. Its is not a common option but is more so seen on cars with the V6, diesel engine or the S4. Sometimes Audi would build cars with lots of options in one car like Nav, multi function steering wheel, phone and sunroof and allocate to dealers to show to customers the options and sell.

I looked at this years ago on a sedan and I know exactly what parts are required. If you don't have it fitted as from the factory, the main loom of the car is different so the harness for the sensors and the harness for the park control unit cannot be connected to the vehicles main loom which sounds like is your problem?

You will need to get the main loom from a car that had PDC fitted from factory (which won't be easy to find) to replace your main loom, or run the wiring yourself all the way from the control module to the fuse panel. I believe Kufatec did this wiring awhile ago.

TBH this is a massive job for a car that is not that hard to reverse park.

First of all, thank you for the info.

We got our hands on the 4 ultrasonic parking sensors, the factory bumper with the color matched lower lip that houses them, the parking control module that is located under the rear seat from the factory, the speaker and the complete wiring loom that runs from the sensors all the way to the connector that is under the fuse panel in a factory fitted car. The whole thing came from a B5 A4 that had it fitted from the factory.

The whole thing is installed and it was not hard at all, I just changed the bumper and ran the cables under the boot cover - rear seat - driver side cable channel. Currently there is only one thing thats missing, which is to solder the cables under the fuse panel, as there is no place to connect the factory connector obviously. I am pretty sure that all the signal wires (k-line, reverse signal line, speed sensor line) are avaiable in close proximity to the fuse box, despite the fact that there is not a factory connection on the car side made with them.

The main question is basically that which cable does which on the parking module side of the loom.

This is the the module we have, i think even the exact part number.

This is what we have and is installed already.

Very interesting. I would like to know your progress on this, and post the pin-outs if you find it.

This is exactly what i have and what is already in the car. The white connector on the bottom on the picture is actually 2 connectors push together, because one of them is the the car side. csati.jpg

There are 6 wires in it, none of which i know the purpose of.

I just read your first post again and saw you have a 2001, the photo of the module you posted is for the models in the date range 0299 - 0600.

    This might not work?

Also what build date was the A4 you removed from?

It was removed from a model with the digital clock on the dashboard, and ours is a digital clock too, so it must be compatible.

Thanks mate, I have already read through that one, the closest it gets to where i need to go is:
"The internal wiring harness then runs under the right hand sill trim to the multi connector block in the drivers footwell under the fuse box. Here I connected the 'k' line, power, earth, vehicle speed wire and reverse wire."

    There are no specifics.

The wire colors may provide a clue.

The K-line in the car is Grey/white, and the speed signal wire is white/blue, none of which match any of the cables on the module harness.

8D9 971 065 the main loom from PDC control module to the fuse panel is the same for all avant from 98 - 01.

Can you take some photos of this installed up around the fuse panel.

Do you have a VIN for a car that came stock with the parking assist? I can't get Elsapro to show any wiring diagrams using the generic model dropdowns. I'm curious about this mod.
