Has anyone ordered one?/Planning on ordering?

I’ve been going back and forth about it and I can see you’re able to build one on the Audi website. Curious what opinions are on the new S3 in particular and if these cars will be readily available on dealer lots.

I love my current S3 so upgrading to the new S3 would most likely be my choice but there are so many great options within the same range (Golf R, M240i, A35 AMG).

I need to see it in person before I order. I love my ‘20 S3, and the ‘22 sometimes reminds me more of a Hyundai than an Audi, and other times looks aggressive and elegant.

I put down a deposit for an S3 on July 5 and my dealer is still telling me that ordering hasn't opened up yet. He said the official release date is the beginning of November.

Sounds like you're getting the dealer's one initial S3 allocation. Actually placing an order is a whole other time frame.

I am! Got lucky... the Salesman was like... wow, we get 1 car then the rest are allocated in November. How has no one reserved it? I was like, I'll just buy it. Must have been the easiest sale he made this year. Paid sticker price.

What Audi USA did, which is common when a new vehicle launches, is they ordered cars of basically 2 specs, in a few colors themselves. Then they handed them out to a few dealers. Official ordering for sold customer orders begins soon. No word on RS3

We got ours last week at Audi Warrington (PA). The Prestige w/ all the options makes it quite spendy, but at a Premium Plus with Black Optics, S Sport, and Fine Nappa, it's much more palatable. I'm probably going to order one for myself in a few weeks and expect to wait until next spring before it actually lands.

The black one they have at Bethesda. I spoke to them on Wednesday, and was told “$10k adjustment” due to supply shortage.

I'm a tech guy and a gadget nerd, but I just don't get all these new screens. I have a 2017 A3 Quattro with the sport package and that thing is damn near perfect from an aesthetic / functionality perspective - the layout is clean, simple, functional, and it looks good. Sure, I wish the screen in the middle was better and higher resolution, but I wouldn't replace the whole dash with a virtual cockpit - it just doesn't make sense to me over physical dials.

Am I missing something here? Do people really prefer the removal of all physical buttons and analog dials in place of several high resolution screens?

Then again, I still think the 1st gen iPhone SE was a damn-near perfect phone with a design that should never be changed...

the end of the month makes no difference anymore. Demand outstrips supply, and the "goal" numbers per dealer at this point are so low, no one misses them (because no one really has any inventory vs what they normally would have this time of year).

Wife liked the interior tech of the 2020 Q3 but the small form factor of the A3. When we found out the 3's were getting the tech in the in Q3, she was done looking. I loved my iPhone but once I saw my sisters ProMax I want that.

To each their own as they say. My fiance loathes the inside of the RS3, saying it felt dated (she's not wrong, it's 6 years old at this point, even with VC, etc). She similarly doesn't like either of my S4 interiors either lol (B9, B7 or B5). I like the B5 the best out of all of them. Vastly preferred the interior layout of the 21 A5 I brought home for her to look at. Different buyers have different expectations, and at the rate things change, that becomes a huge buying point for many people. For better or worse. I am fine with the RS3 interior as is, as it's a driver's car, and that's what the $ goes for. At the same time, I do prefer the cleaner layout and MMI speed of, say, the B9.5 S4 vs the B9. None of these are ultimately reasons I personally buy anything, as I can overlook a lot of things in a car. I tend to aim solely at performance first, and overall comfort (relative to what kind of car it is) second.

Then on top of that some dealers are charging markups. The a3s are just random configurations. I found a dealer close to me that is getting the a3 I want in the specs I want but they're charging 5k over MSRP. So I said nah I'll wait for my local dealer to put my order in. Since I'm first in line.

I am in agreement with you. I do prefer the MMI dial of the 8V over the bigger touchscreen of the 8Y. However, is it a complete dealbreaker? Not really, because the bigger screen does provide better functionality (easier to view for parking aids, higher res, faster processor). The new system also allows one to disable keyless entry via MMI setting.

Three other things I dislike the most about the 8Y interior are 1) the amount of piano black trims, which are fingerprint magnet and can be scratched easily, 2) the location of the cup holder, and 3) the lack of shifter.

Hey look at the cell phone. Pre 2007 it was a tiny screen all buttons. Now, it’s all screen with a few button. I remember blackberry folks complained they need their buttons.

It is not analogous because there are safety considerations in a car. It is much less distraction to not need to look at the screen and use physical dial/buttons.

Well, my 2020 S4 has a full touchscreen and my 2020 A3 has the old fashioned MMI knob + buttons. The A3's MMI is far less distracting than the S4's touchscreen.

Fair point!

Wife and I got to see the S3 today and play with the controls. The only issue I see is the volume button in the center console, but you have volume on the wheel as the driver. Other than the analog A/C buttons I don’t see a reason to to reach the down while the car is in drive. It’s nothing like the new Golf. It’s the exact same system in the Q3.
