Getting Back into Audi: What year A6 with 3.0T should I be seeking out?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I've been gone for quite a while. Sold my '98.5 A4 back in 2009. Now I'm looking to get back into an Audi. I've driven a few A6 and really like the 3.0T supercharged engine. What model years should I be steering towards and why? Anything specific I need to consider? If taken care of, what mileage should I except from the 3.0T???

Find a 2017 A6/A7 in competition trim, won't be easy but worth the hunt.

    Lots of S-car upgrades

I would personally get the CREC motors 2015+ if budget allows. They seem to have the timing chain issue situated, and they have the secondary injection allowing for full E85 if that is your thing, it also reduces the need to do carbon cleaning. The blowers have a little better intercooler too.

Have not seen a 2017 Competition locally. Will keep my eye out.

Is there an Audi wiki anywhere that I can figure out all the different model year differences? CREC don't know what that is.

CREC, I don't know what it stands for, but it is the later model of the 3.0T which has dual injection instead of just direct injection, and other little improvements. It is identifiable by the bolt on supercharger pulley.

My 2012 A7 s at 213,000 miles. Only big issue has been timing chains last summer. There is a guy on Audiworld that is over 345,000 miles.

CREC is the RPO code for the specific 3.0T engine mentioned. There are multiple "3.0T" engines from marketing perspective.

Check the option codes on a label in the trunk to make sure.

Here's mine, note where the CREC is located. Many other items as well, google for specifics.

My 2017 is pretty nice. I kind of prefer “the knob” over all the touch screens. It’s just a PP with sport package but it’s pretty nice. Everyone comments on the supercharger. Don’t see those much.

Just picked up an 18 competition aka. fake S6 this summer, I really like it and the gas mileage is awesome! I always try to get the last year before a new body style comes out. From what I hear the 3.0t is a very reliable engine/transmission setup and can make good power with upgrades.

I get over 30 mpg on the interstate with my cruise set at about 82. It’s nice to have great mileage AND be able to stand on it and go when you want to - even just stock.
I’m hoping my 2017 3.0T supercharged will be good for a long time. I’m at 62K right now. I replaced the water pump and some hoses and fitting to fix a coolant leak issue, but al has been good since. That was over a year ago. Keeping my fingers crossed.
