Best VALUE summer tires for 2021

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello,

Bought some new 19s for the summer, and after 3 months of them being backordered they finally arrived, just in time for fall. Now for the hard part. Deciding on Tires. Ive been through plenty of old posts but would like some advice on current options out there. And please dont just spam Michelins. I know they are the best, but i dont need the best. I just need a good, highway quiet, good performance tire for the hot weather half of the year. Already have AS/3s for the winter time (Kansas, so not really winter). looking for 245/35R19s

The options im looking at now:

The cheap option - Pirelli PZero Nero GT --$175ea. Have read these are a great value, good performance for the first 20k miles but then the noise builds up. Still, appears to be a damn good deal.

The wildcard - Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 --$205ea. Also read really good things about these, and the positive reviews seem to have raised the price by 50 bucks since a lot of the positive reviews ive found on the forum. if they were 150 it'd be the easy choice, but theyre now in the middle of my price bracket. Heard theyre good and sticky, but highway noise can be obnoxious (or great, depending on the review?)

The cheapest of the top end - Conti Extreme Sport Contact - $240ea. These are obvsiously better tires than the other two, but i care if they are actually 160 bucks more better. not sure i trust any sort of treadlife warranty, as my first set of michelins were rejected after 10k for "unusual wear". they were not unusual, they just wore faster than the guy at discount tire expected and he refused to honor it for michelin.

LEt me know if you have any experience with these, or any other alternatives in the price bracket. Please dont just spam PSS's or PS4S. I know theyre the best. I dont need the best.

    thanks

I personally feel The firehawks are a better tire than the continental, I have found the continental sidewalls to always be soft.

I just got firehawks last week based on posts. I did not need heat performance. Just for warm weather and save the all seasons.

Last weekend was the time to buy them. It was Firestone’s semi annual tire event when they offer the lowest prices

I've been running the Yokohama Advan Apex V601's all summer and after about 6k, am extremely impressed with them, especially after coming from Michelin PSS for summers. $ 205 each at Tirerack.

Ventus V12's are a good value too. I ran these a while.

Indy 500 is a really good value and works great in the rain or shine. Just drove 3 hours in the rain with them probably 70% worn and it felt very confident. But I did stuff my car into a curb with them during a snow storm last year so dont do that but that goes for any summer. My car came with some worn out Conti Extreme Sport Contacts and I did enjoy the stiffer sidewall on them. The Conti Extreme Sport contacts would have run me 1600 dollars CDN for a set and the Indy 500's were 800. Definitely a no brainer. But I would think the couple hundred extra dollars would go a long way in your situation

I've never tried the Firehawk's, but I agree with this statement about soft sidewalls on the Continentals.

I got mine from Walmart, earlier this year but sadly didn't get a chance to run them. Walmart was cheaper than tirerack by about $75 at the time of purchase.
Life has taught me never try to make something idiot proof, they'll simply come up with a better idiot.
I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong.
I have neither the time, nor the crayons to explain this to you properly.

How do you feel about the ADVAN noise levels? I bought a set of ADVANs this year after having a set of Indys before that. The ADVANs are really impressive performers, but quite a bit louder than the Indys. Maybe I just need a better alignment

Maybe it's my hearing, but honestly, can't say I've noticed any unusually loud performance from them yet, perhaps a little more after I rotated them for the first time, but still pretty quiet IMHO.

I'm on my 2nd set of firehawks on the s4, they are great tires. The only thing is my first set only lasted about 14k miles, I do drive pretty hard though.
